According to Yahoo Finance, 4Kids Entertainment announced that they have filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The bankruptcy filing covers all the domestic subsidiaries of 4Kids. As a result of the filing, the lawsuit over the license of Yu-Gi-Oh! series has been suspended. 4Kids will continue their business during the pendency of the bankruptcy.

I would have liked to have posted 'inb4 people only read the word 'bankrupt' and have no idea what 'under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code' means, but I am too late.

If they were filing under Chapter 7, the company would be dead. Chapter 11 does not mean the company has gone under.

Ruin the moment? Not paying royalties is the only bad thing that 4kids has done, and they're not the only licensor to have ever done it.

Now, before people come in going 'SKDGAJD EDITEDZ ANIMUS ONE PIECE SONIC X BLARH 4KIDZ SUX', you are aware that 4kids has had uncut versions of the anime they've licensed available to the public for years right? 4kids' licenses were edited for TV.

I'm just joking around, I hope you realize.

Then please explain how changing a riceball to a sandwich has anything to do with making something appropriate for TV. You have to agree that some of their edits make absolutely no sense.

I would usually just be laughing at them..... but thinking about the times when I actually enjoyed their dubs as a kid, allbeit they're pretty crappy to me now that I know about the originals, I think I'd rather go and support them. Go and let little kids enjoy the butchered anime, and if they find the originals and think they're better than their dubs, just go and let them hate 4Kids when the time comes.

Though then again, what they did with the YGO franchise was just plain dumb. They were putting 30 something percent of their profit in jeopardy just to get a couple(thousand) more bucks.

That makes no sense to you? Makes perfect sense to me. As the only anime licensor that still practises Americanisation, they simply switched a rice ball to a sandwhich, as a sandwich is going to be more recognisable than a rice ball. If I were a kid and I was watching that scene where the rice ball rolled down the hill, I probably would have thought it was a snow ball. It's exactly the same as when they subbed out the words 'rice ball' for 'doughnut' back in the early episodes of the Indigo League.

Yeah, and we were discussing FUNimation, not 4kids. Thus, it's not irony, since it's not the same subject.

4kids losing money due to a lost license isn't ironic either, since it's expected, and certainly not the opposite to anything they've announced or stated.

That's why I said CORRECT HEADLINE....WRONG COMPANY.

also, it's IRONIC that this happened only 2 days after I was talking about bankruptcy in terms of AMERICAN Anime Industry.

I already knew 4kids was going under, I just didn't EXPECT it to happen so soon.

Meh. Even though I don't like their censors or anything, it's not a good reason for everyone to be overjoyed at this happening to 4Kids. I assume a lot of kids watch their shows and they're able to get introduced to anime this way. Even if all their anime is over censored, at least it's not the only version available. Still, they probably deserve this for what they did with Yugioh but that's not why you're all happy.

Ok....don't really care...

Back to the important issue...even though this is Chapter 11, I still hope 4kids loses Yu-Gi-Oh for good, I can't stand that fail company and all their idiotic attempts to save themselves from the inevitable.

Yu-Gi-Oh was not as horrible as 4kids presented it to be....I hate them for eternity just for that.

We continue to believe that the purported termination of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Agreement was wrongful and that 4Kids’ assessment of the audit claims will be vindicated in court. If the Court rules in favor of the Company, 4Kids will pursue the full measure of damages for the significant injury the Licensors have caused to the business of 4Kids," concluded Goldstein.

What?

I'll be honest....no I never watched it, but I also heard it only lasted about 10 or 20 episodes....OUT OF the 224 episodes of YGO that's not enough.

I'll also admit I liked the voices especially Yugi/Yami or Atem or whatever you want to call him...

The problem was 4kids love with AMERICANIZING the whole f-ing series, not to mention the HORRIBLE editing.

I also know this was done for TV and because it was targeted to little kids...and blah, blah, blah...

STILL....You won't get much sympathy from people for 4kids.

Makes no sense to me. Even back when I was 4 years old I had no problem recognizing Japanese foods from anime. And that's more than 10 years before I started to know more about Japanese.

No, I'm just more informed about the company than alexcampos. That knowledge gives me no reason to hate 4kids.

Knowing what Chapter 11 is and knowing why 4kids edited their acquired licenses isn't an opinion. You don't have to belittle me just because 4kids isn't dead yet.

That's what happens when people who don't know what 'uncut' means don't buy the DVDs, due to them discounting the release due to the 4kids logo being on it.

You're called the exception, not the rule. Show a random American 4-year-old a rice ball, without calling it a rice ball, and watch them have no idea what the hell it is.
