Graduation, the last episode of Angel Beats, I wonder how this is going to-

<img src="http://i45.tinypic.com/2ez5hkn.jpg" border="0" />

Fuck you Hinata! If you aren't going to take this seriously, I'm not!

Though for the most part, it's touching in a way. All this time they've been fighting to stay alive, but now, they finally came to gripes on how pointless it was and decided to move on.
Shame most of the side-characters disappeared off-screen with no backstory, so what could have been a great finale just turns 'good' because of all the wasted potiential.

And then, there was two..

<img src="http://i46.tinypic.com/vql9bl.jpg" border="0" />
<img src="http://i49.tinypic.com/1rf8lh.jpg" border="0" />

Well, this came off as bittersweet, I guess this finale wasn't too bad after all, I mean, Jun Maeda-

<img src="http://i45.tinypic.com/2ropbah.jpg" border="0" />

Without any real explaination, they are all alive?
I just.......... huh?

This ends without any real conflict or resolution! And better yet! Explaination! So they were in a coma the entire time? What was the point of the school? Why did Naoi and Kanade have powers in the afterlife?
I WAS ASTROBASE BEFORE YOU EVEN!

Awsome still he best

Definitely! Super emotional and one of my favorite scenes ever! Don’t forget the Yui scene too, that was crazy sad :(

Nice anime, but I expected much more from it. It left me thinking now about my life, but the story didn't have so much impact. Sometimes it was too silly and too obvious, but still it was fun to watch it. The best from this anime are songs :)
(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ ちゅっ ちゅっ キス (´。✪ω✪。`)

I hate it when anime/manga that I enjoyed ends, especially when there could be much longer plot and when I love main heroine :P

I wish I had magic glasses that let me see real world in anime colors ;)

This was a nice episode and ties the whole everyone excepting they have to move on thing together

Enjoyed the whole thing, I found the plot really juxtaposed the strange humour with the character growth. I really liked the beginning episodes because they are plots that kids would come up with.

I rated it 9/10, absolute hoot from start to finish.

Ohh, so that's why Kanade was there! Not gonna lie, her final scene with Otanashi was sad and sweet. Although I felt the story couldn't have ended worse for him: Kanade disappeared, he's definitely dead and the last thing we see of him is crying for Kanade.

Quite a few things that I was hoping to get answered but the series was fun regardless. The first half of it made feel like dropping this.

How is it possible to shed tears every single episode of this anime?
But I guess it was ok at the end as we apparently see Otonashi meeting Kanade in their next life.

i feel like this would've done better with more episodes, but for what it had, it was great. there were a few plotholes that would've been nice explaining, but the final scenes and the revelation that kanade's donor was otonashi was great. ost was good too, 8/10.

Most 24 episode anime from Jun Maeda were fantastic. I really wish that they gave Angel Beats that treatment. Even though I cried at the end, I feel like there's more to dramatic/sad anime than getting the audience to cry.

I believe that Angel Beat's theme could have hit people so much harder if we were given a little bit more time with the characters.

Yay just like I was hoping for we got a plot twist at the end! Great satisfying ending, FINALLY a satisfying anime! Overall, it's not a very special anime enjoyment-wise, though the concept is really unique and awesome. Good anime.

There a lot wrong with this show, preaching to the choir with that one I know. Still this anime really should have been 24/6 episodes as it is we had a couple of episodes about lazy designed ghost monster attacking the cast with a unsatisfying climax to that, even if it was meant for closure for Yurippe it was rushed like everything else and boom last episode everyone gone.

Thank you!

I thought I was the only one to notice that and the end after all was said and done I was like wait what about Takamatsu? Also there's no way noda would leave Yurippe behind the one he love's, how the hell did he find his way to move on leaving her behind but like everyone less he gone off screen.

So yeah needed more episodes but not so much for the rest of the cast but for otonashi and kanade. They just decided to work together to help the rest of the group and then in the end of the last episode he going I love you, then on top of that when she goes he left sobbing on the ground only for the epilogue to show he was reincarnated. Ignoring that disconnect between the end titles the two of them just did not have the needed screen time to justify that ending, it really needed More episodes of them working together bonding would have made it work.

The last thing problem I'll bring up is kanade somehow being their before otonashi even low she has his heart, it just doesn't add up. One idea for it I saw is time work different from the real world, that just doesn't flout with me. If they swapped their roles that would have fixed everything. otonashi doing kanade role and we the audience follow kanade instead boom sorted.

Part of me doesn't feel right about giving this a final score as I put it on hold for 3 YEARS! And binched watched the last 4 the know. Yet I give it a repectable 7, might change it to a 6 once I sleep on it but for now 7.

Why its a cheap reason, it emotionally resonated with me and its been too long since a show really touched at my heart strings. Key are sloppy writers, their not good at writing under a limited run time and they rely on unexplained supernatural elements to drive the ploit. (For the record I've only seen clannad and kanon) but what their great at is melodrama. Dispite how much of a shit show everything is on paper I would be lying if it didn't do its job in making me wanting to cry like a bitch.

Angel beats, your a meas yet I'm glad I saw you. I migh rewatch you if only for the fact I put you on hold for too long and forgotten most of the details of what is what. Plus I got a friend who love this melodrama feels shit who I can watch with to have a grand old time, in the end that was the point of the hole thing, to enjoying life.

Also to clear some stuff up:

It was explicitely stated that Kanade got Otonashi's heart transplant and that her regrets from her previous life were never being able to thank the one that allowed her to life on. So yes, he did die, no coma ending. So the bit at the end must have been their next life.

She got a heart transplant and died anyway? HAHA

Yes, she died, but how long after the transplant? We simply don't know. She says 'Thank you for giving me a life', so she really had a meaningfull life after the transplant. My interpretation: she lived for years, but Otonashi only appears in the 'high school' when she had also died. We are not aware of that gap of time because in the afterlife, the perception of time is different.

No, I don't think they were in a comma. They seem alive again in the last scene because they are in a 'new' life (reincarnation). Their souls are in a new life, without memories of the previous life, but with all the feelings. Because of that, Otonashi remembers the song, because he still has the feelings related to Kanabe and to the song.

its not because time perception is different
i think otonashi gets lost in the afterlife beacuse he loses his memories and so its more that was stuck and his soul didnt go to the afterlife for a while beacuse his place there couldnt be decided and he also says he only got to the school by chance since he was fulfilled at the end

what r u talking about saying what happened with takayasu?
they literally went outright and said takayasu got turned back to normal and passed on with the others
as for kanade being there before otonashi ,otonashi says he got lost beacuse he lost his memories that he doesnt even belong in the school and should have already passed on meaning that otonashi didnt go to the school immediately after dying but was lost in the afterlife
and no it didnt need more episodes u dont need to divulge n every character history and past and otonashi loving kanade was shown way before and they didnt more screen time to "justify" no matter what that means otonashi didnt want to pass on as well beacuse he didnt want to leave kanade as he knew he would forget about her if he did thats why he wanted to stay behind

Hi, so I know im a bit late on the train and I dont really know if im missing the point but i had a question anyway. So i recently re watched the ending of Angel beats and i dont really understand why Kanade left. I mean i know her purpose in the afterlife was to find the person who gave her the heart (who was otonoashi) and thank them to be peacefully reincarnated..but i mean.. isnt that kind of selfish. I would've expected her to never confess so she'd be able to stay with him and so he'd not have to be alone in that world, but like she just did what she needed to in order to leave. I couldn't help but wonder why she'd just leave otonoshai back in the after life alone without knowing if he'd make it back alright.
IDK IF IM MISSING A POINT BUT PLEASE FILL ME IM IM HAVING PROBLEMS KNOWING IF KANADE EVEN CARES ABOUT OTONASHI JUST SEEMS KINDOF RUDE WHAT SHE DID IS ALL.
thanks pls lmk

I have to put this here to avoid spoiling for others. The order of Otonashi and Kanade being placed into the afterlife are backwards. Since he donated his heart she would be placed into the afterlife after him not before.

Otonashi was already at peace since he recovered his memories after the train derailed. He had no resentments keeping him there, while Kanade still wasn't at peace. She cared about him, but the series plays it off as making peace with yourself and moving on being the ultimate goal, outweighing spending eternity with a loved person. So she leaves him, making the choice for both herself and him, who had no reason to stay behind.

Times for saying "farewell" are always tough, and here you have five people who will be reborn without any memory of their past lives or what they did in the afterlife's realm. Their souls might remember people they met, but here "farewell" is definitive, unfortunatelly.

Life can be indeed tough, even in the afterlife. One of last scenes proved it, but the very last scene gave hopes. Kanade and Otonashi were reborn and could meet with other.

As for this anime... It's hard to say, it was very unstable in terms of quality. In front of great music, great visuals, good animation, cool characters with their own original personalities that resulted in many various scenes, and of course very interesting concept, we had some flaws like chaotic, sometimes rushed plot (especially near its end), not enough explainations about things the characters were talking about (mostly about rules behind this realm)... Hmm... I feel this anime could've been way better if the amount of episodes would be around 24 instead of 13.

This anime was definitely entertaining to watch. I wouldn't call it as something even close to masterpiece, but it was not terrible. Solid piece of fun. I think everyone will find something that will hook a person to this anime, whether it's its story, characters, or audio and visuals.

I had big expectations coming into this, because it is listed so high up in top anime. Honestly there were only couple of interesting episodes and the rest were just fillers. The music was on point. I'm kinda disappointed, but it let's you think more about how precious your life is and that you should do everything you want, so you do not regret it. With me crying at the end I rate 7/10.

I felt really disappointed with this ending. The characters' personality was completely off. Tenshi smiling all the time, behaving like a regular girl; also Yuri. And this sudden love scene bw Otonashi and Kanade? How come Kanade was already in the purgatory before Otonashi appeared? Also, you could not tell the difference in Kanade's personality at the moment when she discovers that she had Otonashi's heart. There was a bit of character development through the series, but then suddenly they were different people in this episode, like whoosh. magic.

I feel everything was extremely rushed, and expected more from a Key anime scored higher than 8/10 in MAL. The whole anime was fine, entertaining, good idea, but I expected something different as a conclusion of the series. I rate it with 6/10 overall.

What a dumb ending.

It was super emotional, and yet didn't explain anything.

Why did Kanade leave Otonashi if he clearly wanted her to stay??? WTF? Is she really that cold hearted? Remember, he was going to stay here forever, and now he has to live there on his own. Yet we see him in the real world, meaning he got himself obliterated? Make up your mind please.

Also, he gave his heart and so on, so how is he still alive?!?! Where are the others? Did they forget about each other? Dumb ending.

Just finished this.

Don't really get the hype. Like it's obviously a 'good' show, but the story is told too quick for anything to be properly explained. The timeline issues are all over the place, the 'programmer' of that world is not even talked about besides the bit where Yuri is in the computer room, and the fact that everyone is just able to disappear after the shadows/programmer were stopped defeats the entire purpose of the previous episodes where people's desires were granted so they could move on.

Very flawed and rushed IMO, but still a nice story with emotional moments and fun characters.

Not sure if you didn't actually watch it or what, but the setting is essentially the afterlife, so Otonashi died in the train tunnel collapse and because he opted to be an organ donor, his heart was given to Kanade. The others also found peace after the fight with the shadows. I believe this was explicitly mentioned and that is why the only ones remaining were the ones who went after Yuri underground.

If you watched the ending credits, it shows them all disappearing in order, with Otonashi disappearing last. This means he did leave eventually (after helping guide others to do the same as explained in the OVA). He mentioned staying to help save others; that does not imply staying eternally.

The ending was emotional, but not complex.

this show makes so little sense i paused my screen multiple times going wtf

how can he love her that much after so few interactions i dont understand
how did kanade die? yuri?
how did he move on from the afterlife?
why do they look the same later? what the heck are the odds that they are in the same city lmfao. do they retain memories of some sort

and like the big question: how tf did he end up there AFTER kanade if he died before her??? like a LONG time after since she got there supposedly before everyone else.

i am debating between a 4/10 and 5/10 lmao. the music was pretty good like 7/10 and the animation was decent, maybe 6/10. but like plot and character development???? rofl whereeeeeeee

What??!!!! lol I see Kanade and Otonashi as siblings lol I thought he saw his younger sister on her.. I'm shock that he confess lol

Woah!!! How Kanade died when she already have a heart transplant? What happened?

So in second life they meet !!!! Please season 2!!!! huhuhuhu I hope they make this 25 episode atleast :(

When I first watch this anime, it's so weird. I don't understand what they're fighting for but now.. I understand all of it and I loveeeee it!!! I love the drama and the comedy elements of it. 8/10. I enjoyed this so much ❤️❤️

If there's one thing I learned from Angel Beats!, it's that you should consider donating your organs before you die it might save someone. Well that's one way to get rid of regrets.

Anyways, it was a great show. My eyes sting a bit but I didn't cry. Although I wish they explained some things but overall, it was a good experience. Last episode was beautiful and I'm glad Yuzuru got a happy ending, according to the last scene. Well that's open for interpretation but I'll go with Yuzuru meeting Kanade again in their next life.

9/10. Make a double cour anime next time Key.

this show makes so little sense i paused my screen multiple times going wtf

how can he love her that much after so few interactions i dont understand
how did kanade die? yuri?
how did he move on from the afterlife?
why do they look the same later? what the heck are the odds that they are in the same city lmfao. do they retain memories of some sort

and like the big question: how tf did he end up there AFTER kanade if he died before her??? like a LONG time after since she got there supposedly before everyone else.

i am debating between a 4/10 and 5/10 lmao. the music was pretty good like 7/10 and the animation was decent, maybe 6/10. but like plot and character development???? rofl whereeeeeeee

I would not say that these are "plot holes", but more "poetic freedom" (in special the nonsense reencounter in the last scene)

Btw, i understood that is implied that Otonashi is the guy who create that system that Yuri has discovered in the 12th episode, to avoid that other soul fall in love like that again and be unable to go ahead.

And the time that Purgatory is not linear. That's why Kanade died after Otonashi, but arrived there before him.

And an infinite amount of non-linear time, the events repeat again.

I shed the tears at the end. I wasn’t expecting so cry cause I wasn’t that emotional impacted during the other episodes. BUT THEN THEY THROW THAT KIND OF ENDING MY WAY AND I COULDNT HOLD BACK THE WATER!!! I also wanted to see Yuzuru move on cause he always just wanted a “Thank you” and he finally got that from someone he gave his heart to. AND IM SO HAPPY THEY MEET AFTER REINCARNATION!!! Though the question is if they remember those memories or at least have that kind of feeling like “I feel like I know you” or “have we met” cause she was humming the same song, so that means they must have some kind of realization of past memories, they just can’t unlock them.

Out of context, this was a good episode. The whole graduation ceremony made me really emotional, with only five souls singing and celebrating their achievements. Otonashi's speech was great too. And seeing them accepting their past lives, saying goodbye and move on was somewhat cathartic. Then Kanade reveals she has Otonashi's heart and he confesses to her (I totally didn't expect that), just a moment before the saddest part begins. I cried during the whole episode, but when he asks her to stay with him and she disappears with that beautiful OST in the background, that's when tears couldn't stop. Otonashi tries to hold her back and calls out her name, but she's gone and now he's left alone.

That was pretty intense for someone who disliked this anime since the beginning. Angel Beats! was not only rushed but also confusing and nonsensical. The comedy was cheap, I hated the band's scenes and didn't care about most of the characters. There were too many twists with no explanation and the plot didn't make any sense. Even the ending and epilogue were bad from a rational standpoint.

Overall 5/10

If that's how you want to look at it, you can say that about anything that has important missing information necessary to understand the work. It's impossible for anything to be bad.
It's not long enough.

Great anime. I feel the characters could have been more fleshed out. I have questions regarding the events though. Who was the programmer? How does time work in this universe? (Angel was already dead when Otonashi came yet at the end it's revealed she

I give this anime 8/10 for having a good story, but I feel like some things were left a bit unexplained. The whole war between Kanade and Yuri was just a huge misunderstanding? Also, some of the side characters disappeared after the shadow monster battler. How?

i like this, surprisingly, it's kinda decent, like an in-your-face haibane renmei, also at it's best it sort of reminded me to the "ending" of kafka's amerika, a must read by the way.

again, decent, 6/10. haibane renmei is better tho.

Damn that episode was as emotional as I remember it being 5 years ago. Its really nice that they meet up again in the real world.

This was a great re-watch. After 5 years finally revisiting the classic that brought me my original favourite character ever Kanade Tachibana I fell in love with her all over again. She was so adorable this last episode.

Now I didnt tear up during that goodbye scene like I did the first time but instead during the end credits where everyone was disappearing and when it finally hit Kanade I really felt that.

Now as Ive re-watched it Ive noticed Angel Beats kind of just did what they want with the flow like how they switched antagonists 3-4 times but it was still all enjoyable. And for once I actually really like a dub even after re-watching it. So many of the dub voice actors Ive heard originate from this anime and these roles are always what I think back to them with. Especially Yuri. I literally cannot hear that voice as anything else other than Yuri.

Overall such a good anime. It was beautiful to revist. Such a classic.

I was watching this again after several years. It felt much different at the time I first time watching this. I still give this a strong 10/10 tho, even with that confusing story at the end. This is the only one of few shows I ever watched that has a good action, comedy and "tears" (highlight the tears because Angel Beats did a really good job with that one).

By the way, if you feel the story is "incomplete" go play Angel Beats VN. 13 episodes anime is never be a good method to explain every single thing happened in the story and of course there'll be plotholes

Really enjoyed this show. I really think that 13 episodes was not enough though. I really enjoyed the premise as well as the characters, but it just felt like there was more to be done and said, which is a rather unfortunate thought.

Now that I finished, I will be thinking about how I now have a new void because I finished an anime I really enjoyed.

8/10, would tear up again
Have a great day!

well Idk But I feel somehow disappointed.
I don'e even get how She can have his heart if he died before her but she spawned in this world long before him ôO

I also did not find the ending scenes actually sad since I had no bonding to the characters in first place.

6/10
