Are you one to use swear words in your daily life, and are any specific places you'd be more likely to use them? Or are you totally uninhibited and swear pretty much anywhere, even in public? And what swear words would you be the most likely to use if you stubbed your big toe? Or do you prefer to keep your language clean no matter what?

Personally, I have the habit of never saying any in public or in front of anyone at all (a remnant of my religious education, I guess) since it was always seen as unsightly to do so. That's a mindset that's hard to get rid of, but I also don't really feel so much like changing it, though. But what about you?

Only in anger/frustration really. I don't say them playfully, or casually.

I will say crass words, like the fuck or shit however, yeah I also don't really use the Lord's name in vain, even still, in any context.

I would sometimes quietly say "fucking hell" in English or "Fuck it" in my native language, but I try not to swear in front of others nowadays since I'm usually the oldest among my colleagues/friends. Leaves a bad impression.

I did swear a lot back in Japan since no one could tell what I was saying. In fact, they liked it so much that they were repeating all the swear words after me and would ask me to teach them more and more. Those were the days.

I curse freely. My mother's the same (She tries to apologize most of the time, but she curses exactly as often as I do), and while she probably hid it around me, my grandmother was probably also the same. :D

I use swear words...occasionally, depending on the environment. You won't see me dropping the f bomb at work. I mostly use profane language when I am angered or when joking around with friends.

I have no taboos about it, but I prefer to use it creatively rather than turning into some routine. Also it depends on the person and context, I'm willingly adjusting to their style. Must be not the smartest idea to say in the bank "yo bitch ass motherfucker, I need more leverage to buy some shit, now gimme a check you mommy's boy".

We have many English-speaking fellows in the town nowdays, and their "fuck" after every second word is annoying. We also have many young Russian-speaking girls in the town for the last few years, and they talk a lot like noone understands - I bet their mothers wouldn't be happy to hear that. I like to play along for a while and then ambush them with deep understanding of their "folklore", it's very funny. Turkish guys are probably the most clean of that, they have the respect to their language, or maybe to dads' belts idk.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I remember visiting my friend and we were drinking at his backyard.

Friend: Hey bro, something fucking wild happened "explains"
Me: For real? Holy shit thats wild!
Me: *Looks behind and sees my friend's kid looking at us

Later on the evening while we were eating:
Friend's Wife: Hey bla bla bla
Kid: Really mom? Holy shit thats wild!
Friend's Wife: Huh?
Me: Huh?
Friend's Wife: *Looks angrily at us*

I swear a lot but after that incident, I made sure to control my words whenever there are kids around. I wouldn't also swear in church, work or family gatherings.

@-Shinzo
I once told a friend he was "nuts" after I heard another kid casually say that to her mom. My teacher did not like that...

Judging by Wikipedia, there are only 5 curse words in my language.

No wonder this is the main data source of all pro-capitalists; it screams quality.

It greatly depends on who is within earshot of me. My "filter" is only completely off if I'm alone or if I'm with university classmates or anyone else my age.

I swear like a sailor, but the severity of them depends on my surroundings. Out in public? "Goddamnit". Around relatives/people I trust? "Fuck/Shit". Completely alone or playing online with random people? I go full Pewdiepie and say the n-word.

Starting as a teenager I was pretty much as foul-mouthed as a person could be. Rebellious phase after dealing with a strict family lol. That and just the company I kept at the time. Then it has gotten less and less and I think I'm at a tasteful balance somewhere between "kinda sometimes" to "pretty often."

I like to be more mature and elegant than when I was younger but at heart I'm still a bit of a fuckin' bastard.

A lot, I have a filthy mouth for a lack of a better way of putting it, but it's only in specific / private settings. Outside of that, I think I'm fairly polite.

I think this is exactly why I picked up the habit of not censoring myself in my younger years, I was quite frustrated by the expectation to be proper.

Almost every swear word where I live is related to the Church so in order not to use the Lord's name in vain, we literally would have to avoid swearing like at all. But I see you're Canadian so you probably already know about Quebec swear words.

Very rarely, I think the reason I never picked up on it when I was a teenager is I did not want to conform to the social codes developed around boys my age. Stuff like you should use a swear word every other sentence, if a classmate curses at you, you throw hands, etc.

@fleurbleue I actually used to think any "naughty words" were swear words, however, after doing more research on how say, those in the Middle Ages view the concept, I stopped caring. My mom would get upset, if I ever used those words, so now I have a long list of expanded, non crass insults, like ingrate, that I do like to use.

It depends on the language. These days, I mostly use swear words only in English and Korean as I try not to use them in my parents' original languages. Same goes for my sister.

I must say this for humor-related purpose in which I use that single swear word commonly used in North Korea on the phone with a thick standard North Korean accent just to slightly intimidate some South Korean men around me when I wait for the train on the Metro.

I use them all the time, casually, in frustration, in my head, to add comedy etc. etc. - of course it also depends on the crowd, because I can easily stop myself from using them in specific situations.

Umm i kinda try to avoid using swear words, not because I just completely don't use them, but rather bc they sound kinda harsh in just casual conversation. I do use a lot of substitutes though like fudge for the f-bomb for example.

The only times I actually use swear words are when I'm like actually angry, like umm this... very, umm... wholesome post i made in the vent thread a few days ago, for example:

I try not to in conversation or public, but it happens. Alone, sometimes a childish amount. I'd really rather not though, since my mom hates it, it's not a good look, and it's much more fun to say complete gibberish or just make weird noises (in this day and age, you'll probably get a better reaction).

Honestly, cursing is the thing I'm least worried about people hearing. I have issues with filtering myself when I'm around people I know, even in public. I'm not going to say anything really extreme, but off color statements fly out constantly. I'd rather someone hear me say "fuck" a few times than some of the jokes or statements I say. Especially anything to do with politics.
