Production company Happinet opened an official website for a television anime adaptation of Susumu Maeya's Maid-san wa Taberu dake (The Food Diary of Miss Maid) manga on Monday, revealing the main cast, teaser visual (pictured), and a promotional video.

Voice actress Kana Ichinose (Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou., Maou no Ore ga Dorei Elf wo Yome ni Shitanda ga, Dou Medereba Ii?) is starring as Suzume Tachibana.

Staff
Director: Ryousuke Senbo (Youkai Watch)
Series Composition: Natsuko Takahashi (Hoshikuzu Telepath), Saeka Fujimoto (Alice or Alice)
Character Design: Chiaki Abe (Undead Girl Murder Farce animation director)
Music: Katsutoshi Kitagawa (ROUND TABLE) (Buddy Daddies)
Studio: EMT Squared, Magic Bus

Maeya began drawing the manga on the Comic Days app and website in December 2019. Kodansha published the fourth volume in March 2022.

Kodansha USA licensed the manga for digital release in English in October 2022 and published the fourth volume in September 2024.

Synopsis
What's a maid to do when she finds herself suddenly stuck in Japan for a year? Eat, of course! Follow maid-in-training Suzume Tachibana as she tries all sorts of Japanese food, from sweets like taiyaki and melon bread to savory snacks like takoyaki and onigiri! Be warned, though—while Suzume sates her appetite through delicious treat after delicious treat, she might just end up whetting yours! (Source: Kodansha USA)

This looks like pure good vibes if nothing else. I'm kind of excited, honestly.

Edit: Just rapidly scrolled through the manga's first chapter without reading anything. I'm in love already. If the adaptation is good, this is going to be awesome.

Edit 2: Screw it, I'm adding this manga to my PTR. If it is enough to make me happy without me even reading it, it is peak fiction enough for me.

Wow. My Japanese colleague's favorite manga only due to the food-related descriptions is going to have an anime adaptation soon.

I would expect Taisho era Japan as the background, but I think it's not. And Japanese people really and down-right serioulsy have a huge obsession with French/British maid stuff.

More maid anime is always good news, plus it looks like the manga has good reviews.

As an aside, Magic Bus is back to making normal anime again? Didn't realize they also worked with EMT Squared on two other shows a few years ago, plus Youkai Watch with OLM in 2019. It's very funny that they tried being a hentai studio in the 2010s and now are just like "nevermind". I'm curious as to why. I'm aware some of their old OVAs were also hentai, but that wasn't their main thing. I also wonder if they'll try to ignore that arc of their history in favor of their older, classic anime and more recent shows. Looks like their website's work history is just 2019-2021 and is mostly support for other shows. Probably transitioned to being a support studio for a while while making hentai on the side. I wonder if they have a partnership or some other deal going on with EMT Squared given the number of recent series they've collaborated on.

@MalchikRepaid Is this yuri bait/CGDCT/moe ? I've seen all sorts of tags online, but I haven't found any reviews in English. I enjoy well-written cooking shows, but I'm not quite sure what to expect from this one. The author has already participated in some yuri anthologies, but I don't know how similar it is.

I asked my colleague about this 2-3 months ago. There are very low level yuri-ish elements that are much closer to CGDCT (cute girls doing cute things) tropes. My understanding is that it's essentially like Can I Take Your Photo?, but with food.

I would make an educated guess that it's Yuru Camp, Wakakozake, and the J-dorama version of Kodoku no Gourmet (the original manga version has a very aggressive and pessimistic MC) all mixed together into a single cluster. But I can confirm that there is indeed the usual "healing your heart through eating good food" Japanese trope in that manga.

@MalchikRepaid So, this is a case where the yuri oneshots author writes a more "chaste" moe manga for a major publication? I haven't read the title you mentioned, but since it's the author of Yama no Susume, I think I understand what level of moe or yuri bait it is.

Yes. I guess there is a trend among some authors like you described.

Yes, just appropriate enough to make a "very clean" anime adapation.

@MalchikRepaid This is the so-called "Manga Time Kirara scouting", when magazines are looking for authors who draw moe/yuri fan art and one-shots as people with potential in moe and CGDCT manga. For example, the author of "The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls: U149", as far as I know, used to draw fan art on Idolmaster. This experience was discussed in a number of anime about fan artists/newbie mangakas, but I don’t remember it very well.

Oh, right. I read about this before. I'm a fan of Manga Time Kirara-based artists for a reason.

As a Maid Conneseur, I am glad to see more maid some. Thought I am sceptical about the premise. It seems overdone, not interesting and as such I'm afraid this show will get boring after the first episode. But we'll see.

The author has a really impressive pixiv portfolio... and this manga even got nominated for a pixiv award.

Maybe I should put the manga under my radar......
