Ye, this Zeno guy is being protrayed like an underdog working his way up, or at least improve himself in their world. Carmilla has a somewhat unique look I guess but the rest of the cast looks like those you'd find in a fantasy show.

Story/plot feels medicore so far. At least there's some colorful personalities? Have to wait and see how this will play out. The center of the show is still Zeno for now but he needs a lot of development...

Studio Makaria's first full-fledged production show, and it has to be yet another one of those "kicked out of the hero's party" trope once again, as is novelist Sakaku Hishikawa's series here. When is this trope going to die?

The life of underground healer Zenos and his assistant elf Lily in the Kingdom of Herzeth, as well as the ghost spirit of Carmilla living in the place they reside in, plus the "big three" slum leaders of lizardkin Zophia, cat beastkin Lynga and ogre Loewe, this looks every bit like a happy family, though it has its contrivances of infighting between the 3 beastkin to consume Lily's prepared meal meant for everybody, to the chagrin of both Lily and Carmilla. Zenos on the outside witnessing every bit of the unsatisfactory slavery of a demihuman, and decides not to bat an eye about it...?

As expected, Zenos following the aristocrat dragging his rabbit demihuman slave to a grave and having her be absorbed with a ghost of evil miasma, Zenos may have fended it off, but also took his grievance to the noble by taking the slave contract and saving Til out of trouble and healing her body completely. Of course, Zenos wants an equal price to his underground work, and he only wants to find the leaves he's looking for, that's more than enough to render her contract void and set her free.

Sure, the beastkin found ingredients for Lily to make a new batch of stew, and Zenos's welfare comes first.

bokula's OP is fine, though it feels a tad bit overdone.

It's an OK start, but what the hell is happening now with anime adaptations dropping content way beyond without context?

Don't know what it is this season, but shows keep jumping you straight into the plot with no background whatsoever. Yesterday, a show like that aired, and now this one too. Just throwing you in like it's season two, assuming we already know the characters and everything about them. But let's be honest, we can all guess the plot just by looking at the two main characters. And ofc, the actual translation of the title straight-up tells you the entire main plot as well lmao.

See though, the thing is, at least with the other show I was talking about, it was somewhat unique and, hm, let's seem, ACTUALLY HAD THE FUCKING MAIN CHARACTER IN IT??? No because seriously, why the FUCK did it take a whole ten minutes for the MAIN character to actually do something? The entire first half of the episode is just spent with, yep, you guessed it, his harem. So yeah, as you can imagine, the story ain’t that good.

So what’s the saving grace you ask? Well, surprisingly, it’s actually the animation…???

No because why did it actually look above average, hell, good even, for a generic fantasy like this? Sadly though, that fight didn’t last long, so yeah, it doesn’t really make up for the other twenty minutes WASTED doing, hmm, let me see… NOTHING. Skip the first half of this episode, I promise you won’t miss a single detail. The second half wasn’t insulting, but yeah, it’s about what you’d expect when coming into a series like this.

P.S. I’m not a furry, but I might’ve just found my second reason for continuing this show other than the animation ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

OP was cool as well, I guess. I'm trying to find anything to like this series, I swear.

The animation is good, and the story looks interesting for now. Only time will tell this show’s true worth.

Lily is a cute and charming elf, and I’m sure she’ll make a great wife in the future. As for the other girls—Carmilla, Lynga and Loewe they look fun to be around and give meaning to the story as his somewhat harem.

Zenos himself is kindhearted and a good person, but he’s definitely no normal healer! No way an ordinary healer can do what he does. And that slave girl mistaking his intentions for something impure was hilarious—it added a bit of erotic tension but didn’t feel too much.

I just watched the first episode, and honestly, it was pretty much what I expected. That classic beginning where the protagonist is treated unfairly but is obviously going to make a comeback. I liked the whole 'underground healer' vibe he's got now, and the anime's visuals are decent. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's easy to watch. I'm curious to see how he'll grow and rub it in the faces of those who kicked him out. Did anyone else find the pacing a bit fast, or was it just me? Not that I'm complaining—it’s good that there’s no unnecessary filler.

Things I like
- Kindhearted protagonist
- "Show, don't tell" storytelling style
- Above average animation quality
- Interesting soundtrack ASMR gimmick
- Peaceful environment (for now)
Things I'm not fond of
- Too many female characters compare to male
- Could it be harem?

This feels like a PG-rated Redo of Healer, obviously because of the main character's job and his harem.

Good enough characters introduction and nothing much of note for now. I see people stay with this series just for the action animation.
Great and diverse selection of waifus, I give it that.

More trashy trope infested OP lead fantasy junk food but the visuals looked much better than I was expecting, not that I was expecting very much but still. Carmilla better here than her manga counterpart. I honestly didn't even know that was her color palette.

Seems the anime is going with a 'start in a random part of the story so show off all the characters before actually starting from the start' first episode.

Well, the harem was laid out immediately, and perhaps not in its entirety. The animation is normal, quite watchable. The characters are also drawn normally. There are details, but the work with shadows and backgrounds is weak. The lighting is too uniform.

That was actually a lot better than I expected.
The first few minutes have a very fun and slice of life vibe with the main girls seemingly being quite the quirky characters.
On the other hand, Til's story started very grim, but ended on such a cute note.
The MC seems like a guy with a rough appearance but a good heart.
Considering the OP, I imagine we'll eventually get to know more about his and their (the girls) pasts, I can't wait for that.

A very good start, hoping it continues in that direction.

This seems like a fun anime, looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Also wild to me that it's 2025 and people are still bitching about the idea that you don't have to start a story at its very earliest chronological point. Like I'm sorry but if you're not capable of following a story because it starts off by introducing the characters later on in their lives and then follows up with a "how did we get here" you might want to go back to Teletubbies.

For me it was hard to watch: character designs are inconsistent, as if they were pulled from different anime; backgrounds are simple 3d models with overdetailed textures, actually more detailed than the subjects; and the music is loud, inappropriate.
That 30 second fight was good, but probably was an extra investment for ep 1, doubt we'll ever see anything like that again

Good prologue. The theme on this one was apparently just medical, although i'm seeing a lot of harem hints left right & center, so i dunno about it just bein' a "medical". That aside though, although i DID say that it was a good prologue, i'm confused as to why the episode didn't cover the 1st half of the synopsis; which i assume is the actual LN prologue, while the episode immediately hopped onto the 2nd half of the synopsis, for some reason.

Bit confused about that, but i guess it is what it is, we don't see him bullied first then start back form scratch, but we see him immediately with what he already built and how he lives his new life. That aside though, like the races. We got humans, elves, beast-people, and ghosts apparently or whatever Carmillia is. Nonetheless, excited to see how this one turns out, cuz so far it's lookin' mad chill, i dig it.

We are introduced to three characters in the series who actually should have no business in the whole house anymore. Just plain thieves. But, the naive series will make it a joke obviously.

It was not a jump start. It was the start in the middle of nowhere.
And they still managed to make it boring as hell.
And now they will serve everything they've skipped as flashbacks.
Should we give this show a charity watch? Cause no way I can label it as "an entertainment".

it's wild to me that it is 2025 and knuckledragging luddites like you don't know that chronological order of events is how real life works... AND you start telling 'oh this fun thing happened to me on the way into work today!' stories... at the beginning NOT in the middle. now i'm not saying 'oh 10 generations ago when my oldest known ancestor was born on such and such date in such and such country...' that far back in the past of the guy who is telling you that fun story about him going to work today...

Painfully average first episode. This feels pretty much like the rest of the mass-produced garbage shows these days. Animation is not bad for once but the story is dull and directing is meh. Might turn into a better show that it currently smells like, but I feel this is average and will continue to do so.

1st episode, and i'm 100% underwhelmed and disappointed.
animation. crap.
art. crap
writing. crap.
music. crap.
fight choreography. crap.

this is the first episode ever, ever, EVER for these guys? seriously? i've seen normal average everyday non-technical school animation projects look better than this from noobs. this is better than a brick of Post-It-Notes turned into a Flip Book with a pencil drawn stick man walking from the left bottom corner to the right bottom corner.

i know Makaria has never made TV before ever, but wow. this is not even in the barrel, let alone the bottom of the barrel scrapings. i hope their 2nd ever TV show that comes on in 4 days is better than this. or they're going bankrupt this Season, right now. because nobody is EVER going to EVER order and pay for another anime from these guys ever again.

but hey another problem this episode has? give the audience more than 30 seconds' worth of screen time for the main character BEFORE the mid-episode commercial break. watch episode 1 again and EXACTLY time how long the main character is on-screen before the 11-12 minute timecode... because by the file i just watched, ep1 is exactly 24 minutes long. he appears in 1 scene in the first half, goes out the door, and he's not seen again till after the halfway point in the episode. the show is about this guy right, not his five female acquaintances?

is this show trying to hook-people with barely attractive demi-girls right at the start? no jiggle? no wiggle? no realism to their bodies? no depth of color or textures? no realism to the fur or scales or how a tail swishes? no shading or shadows or lighting at all? the folks at Makaria want to draw a realistic reptile girl? try Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody.

This was one of the worst first ep i ever watched when it comes to story. I was checking around and thought they maybe released 2 episodes and by mistake i skipped episode 1. At least i was hopeful they do one of that spoiler thing where you see the ending and then half way though ep it goes to how it all begins and anime starts…also no.

On top of it all it felt like watching just a filler episode about cooking a dinner being 80% of it.

Honestly i start thinking about give up with manga adaptations.
I agree with @IzanaSolos opinion.
Another example of adaptation with start cut from middle of nowhere, most main characters throw in without background and they show silly filler story with slave girl Til. Probally that studios that break fantasy/isekai adaptation one after another make adaptation of novice level for youngest kids only.
Why are they not want learn that good directed adaptation can make profits with popularity and new seasons, for example Slime (very close follow with manga), The Eminence in Shadow (little change in 1st episode but later follow manga), Solo Leveling (very close follow manhwa)

I give this tile last chance in episode 2, if still follow this course i prefer stay by manga and not watch animators improvization.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

It started out like kind of interesting, but then it quickly lost me for like the whole first half of the episode, then around half-way through I got interested again, but then lost interest again pretty quickly. I don't think this is going anywhere...

There tend to be a lot of these 'healer' animes that are mediocre at best, but at least with this one, it doesn't follow the trope where the healer is betrayed or considered a useless class. I mean, the whole nation contributes to healers.

I'm not saying this won't be mediocre because there's a high chance it will but at least it's about a black market healer than about a guy who got kicked out of a party.
