The first season is one of the most rushed adaptations ever, so one would assume that's because they had to fit all the important story beats of a lengthy novel series into just 12 episodes.
But then you see an announcement for the second season.

maybe it's gonna be horimiya style and just fill in gaps after the fact??

probably not, but I'm just wanting to rant about shows that aren't shounen battle anime being rushed like this cause studios don't have any faith in them, and when they succeed enough anyways, having the potential greatness kneecapped by that decision

@tarfeef101 Horimiya situation is different though, Missing Pieces were announced a while later, after it was clear the original season did well.
Here, the second season got announced the day of the last episode, meaning it was already planned alongside this season.

They skipped so much of the original material for season 1 and now they're making season 2? Why they rushed so many things if they're already publishing in January the new season? They could've built things peacefully so they would've made sense like the timing etc so what they're doing in season 2? Ofc it's great that new season is coming quite fast 😅

This was one of the titles I was looking forward too for the spring season, but disappointed right away and finished only because I hate myself, and now Engi hands the last episode and says "oh, and there's gonna be a second season next year, wait for it!". Man, I was like "fuck you, i ain't gonna watch that shit after the mess you made with this adaptation". So nope for me, if that was the plan since the beginning then they should have done the things right from the start. And again, fuck you production committee, and fuck you Kadokawa!
No tomo malas decisiones, solo me gusta apoyar causas perdidas.
Disfruté Mayoiga, Ou-sama Game, Evil or Live, Mirai Nikki, Big Order, Arifureta, Ex-Arm, Tesla Note, Shuumatsu no Harem y Platinum End
nope les falle con esa, lo siento pero todos tenemos nuestros límites.
Así de jodido es mi gusto en anime, ¡Y estoy pinche orgulloso de ello!

@FullyCharged my question is not "why sequel" it's "why absolutely butcher the story to make it fit in 12 episodes if 24 episodes are already negotiated regardless of sales".

@_nelt Well the series itself is pretty fantastic, it just has an incredibly shitty adaptation.

I can not say "nobody asked for S2". But I think world could live just fine without S2 or S1 ever existing.

If they treated UnMemo like it deserved we could have had something great but I don't know if it was really worth the money for Kadokawa to allow this 1/3'd assed version of the series just to propel manga sales lmao

I know like we need a second season after that cliffhanger. Plus it was already announced for 2 cours so I don’t know why people are bugging

I'm pretty sure the ones complaining are LN readers - the cliffhanger means nothing to them, they already know how it ends. Their primary concern is how the story they already know is being presented. Which is apparently badly. Making adapting the second half a waste because A: it will also be bad, and B: they could have spent 24 episodes adapting the first half of the story with better pacing instead. Which obviously isn't how any of this works, but I have some sympathy for those whose favourite source material loses the 'you get the good adaptation' lottery.

@Tsunderaygun

Other than that, if volumes 1 - 3 were the only stuff we have of Unnamed Memory and we did not include the time skip, it is by itself a solid story. The changes made by time travel, though unnecessary, is just a good excuse to create another story but with the same setting and characters for season 2 / volumes 4 - 6.

If ENGI did two cours of season 1, it would have been better received and better promoted the source material. Instead, you have to read the source material to appreciate what is being presented in the anime.

from what i can interpret and guess, S1 adapted the first three volumes. that leaves the final three for S2. all six LN were published and in the Japanese public's hands by April 17, 2021. Yen Press had all the English ones published by October 18, 2022. so there was no rush, no missing books, no need to do anime original stuffs... it was there already. initially announced December 13, 2022 the anime was slotted to premier sometime in '23 but got delayed for 'some reasons' till April 9, 2024. so a delay of 1 year 4 months approx.

ahhh this is suspicious to me... December 16, 2022 LN Vol2 of the 2nd series 'After The End'... was published in Japan. 3 DAYS immediately after the first anime announcement of the first LN series' adaptation? i doubt that was a coincidence. the next date in 'After The End' was October 17, 2023 perhaps near when the S1 was first going to be released? buuut it waited till April '24 when... guess what was happening... April 17, 2024 'After The End' LN Vol4 was released... 8 DAYS after the S1 of the anime started?????

just a hypothesis buuuuut... WHAT IF??? Anime Season1 was a promo material for the 2nd LN Series?? because.... guessss whaaaat happens January 17, 2025???? LN Vol5 is scheduled to be published in Japan... and S2 just started. that is just TOO many coincidental dates for me.

maybe, S1 was messed up too much to even be vaguely ready for the 'october 2023' date??? then the 1 year 4 months delay STILL wasn't enough to exactly do everything right? \shrug/ this is just me guessing alot.

if you look at anime adaptation... 12 episodes is more than enough for 3-4LN Volumes. if they had EXACTLY 3 Vols, maybe that was just too much going on for 12 episodes? ya can't go over 12, because it has already been delayed once. they had to shove it out pretty damn fast because frankly, the screenwriting being sh!t wasn't their only problem, bottom of the barrel quality art and animation ran rampant in S1.

ah well, enough speculation from me. :)
just an ol school American otaku enjoyin the life. don't sass me kiddies, i've been otaku probably since before you were born. leave me in peace and i won't bother you either.
