With the addition of Tomo and Rupa, Nina, Subaru and Momoka began to act as a band of five. Although Momoka proposed a new live performance, the five each had their own distinct personalities and didn't easily come together. There was a slight tension as Nina and Momoka's feelings towards the band seemed to be at odds, and the car continued to move forward with some awkwardness lingering in the air. |

This is easily becoming my favorite of this season. I'm loving the atmosphere of this group, I wonder if they are like this in real life too. It's doing a good job selling it to me They casually bring Sawashiro Miyuki as Mine, a supporting character that looks exactly like her... They got my respect Momo turns into a completely different character after meeting with her again, she really admires and looks up on Mine That cliffhanger was spicy, Nina will gamble everything on becoming a pro now dropping the prep school |

This is some pretty interesting take on how bands operate, especially in their early days when they are only seeking for success - more of a realistic one. |

This might be my favorite episode so far. I really like Nina's character direction in this episode, the discussion the has with her sister and what she decide to do at the end of the episode. Didn't expected this kind of decision from Momoka but it also make sens considering how she's being putting herself aside from the group in those last episodes. Having Nina and Tomo both talking about quitting school was also a very nice moment and I hope the story delves more into it. Also like seeing Rupa and Subaru being the positive girls of the band. I like how compared to the one they already released since quite some time, the version of Nameless Name they played in this episode felt more ""accurate"" to a concert representation and less polished when it comes to Nina's voice. |

It must be hard for Rupa losing her family in an accident while being the most positive from the band. It really shows how sometimes the ones that give us the most support are the ones who have propbably suffered the most. Anyway, we still don't really know what happened in Nina's past but was it that bad for her to get upset all the time and make so many impulsive decisions? Like, until I get the full picture I can't really relate to what she's doing. Is it purely passion or something else? Will Momoka actually leave the band? And will they change the name or leave it as is? |

Omg thank you so much, after watching this episode I was trying to find the song they played at the end on they’re YouTube channel but I wasn’t sure which one it was. Thank you I found it now and threw it straight on my playlist. |

But I like there vibe. I swear Nina literally becomes more relatable each episode, she’s like an unhinged version of myself. Momoka saying she’s quitting threw me off, surprised me a lot but looking back it’s not that surprising. There performance at the end was phenomenal, I love the animation of the red lines bursting out of Nina it added to the scene so much. I’d say Nameless name is one of my favourite songs of theres I’ve listened to so far. This show is criminally underrated |

Prefacing this episode discussion post with: I moved this show into my favorites after this week's episode. Ryushindai said: Yeah. YEAH! I'm so glad I wasn't the only one to recognize her immediately. She brought the episode from the usual 10 up to an 11 for me this week. I could spam off about this forever but for the sake of the post I'll keep myself composed. They casually bring Sawashiro Miyuki as Mine, a supporting character that looks exactly like her... They got my respect Alright the "live" take that this episode had of the first hook on Namesless Name absolutely killed me. I cranked my headphones to an ungodly level for this performance and it hit so good. I can't give enough credit to the animators and the cast for delivering on a full feel experience here. Seriously, I sound like a fangirl but I have fallen in love with this band's album and sound. The anime has done nothing but make me want to see them live in concert. Ok, I'll chill now. This week's episode was killer. Really getting a better look at Tomo and Rupa. I am at a loss for words. I want to spam, I need to spam. XD For real though this show has been a great ride so far. Really looking forward to the rest of it. Momoka girl we need you to chill and vibe, play them riffs for us so we can climb. |

Gee, Nina is getting annoying now. Just too impulsive and you can see that rubs off wrongly on the other characters. Ah well. Cant say I'm impressed at all with the performance at the end there. Its just superimposing the CGI over a live video recording. Nothing new. Done in the past with those cartoons like Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Rival band stepping into the mix next episode, to stir things up even more. The interest is to see how Nina holds herself together. Otherwise, the band sounds great, the vocals are smooth and brilliant. Song is catchy. |

Banger after banger. I'm so happy with the album. Have the OP album on the way as well ^^ The road trip was absolutely epic and we got to learn a lot more about Tomo and Rupa. Momoka can't be playing with my heart like this though! Anxious to see what next week brings! |

Two mommies and their three daughters vibe was strong in this episode. We also get a glimpse of Tomo and Rupa's origin story from the conversation between Tomo and Nina. I like how Rupa kind of act as a mother figure and emotional support for Tomo. Maybe onesan would be more accurate. From this conversation and her meeting with her sister, Nina finally decided to seriously pursuing a professional career in a band by dropping out of the school. I wonder what are the other members thought on Nina randomly pick name for their band lol. Things get more interesting and the tension arise after Momoka also decided to quit the band after her meeting with Mine. Really love their facial expressions through and through especially Subaru's ones. I glad Subaru is in the band as the shining light of vibe otherwise the band would be all gloomy. That's why she still stand as my fav girl. Why is this show getting so fucking good by each passing episode? I do hope this will stay this consistently great all the way through to the end. Can't wait to see more of their journey as a band. |

@thehornedrat Honestly, I kind of disagree. At first I felt similar, but if I were in a band and one of the members was acting like Momoko (always a downer and doesn't seem to want to open up about anything), I would probably be quite frustrated with her as well. I mean, if she isn't even going to bother to try, what was the point of even convincing Nina to join the band in the first place? Giving up now, not wanting to go pro, just comes off as self sabotaging horse crap. |

@Vizvezdenec This is what I like about GBC. I also had a band in high school, and although it didn't have that much drama as the series, it really shows many of the problems when starting, name, lives, songs. Excellent episode. |

absolute cinema, how every episode is consistently good. onee-san came to visit Nina and it turned out that she was very kind to her. now we know what the background of Rupa and Tomo is, Rupa had to live alone after her parents died, even though Rupa is always cheerful in front of everyone. i would say that Nameless Name is my favorite song so far. Subaru in this photo is absolutely gorgeous. |

Show so far's been mostly carried by the animation, not to say it's had a bad story, but it didn't feel good either. Finally with this episode, though, we hit one that feels good even aside from the animation. Unfortunate that it took so long to get here, but excited to see how this second half of the season rounds out! |

Momoka, who was about to leave the band, made Nina stop beating for a split second. From what was shown in this episode, it felt like it left a messy impression for me. There are a few flashbacks from Tomo and Rupa as well as a bit of Momoka which is quite heartbreaking for me. I don't know what's next. Speaking of Nina, maybe I feel what she feels now. If Momoka really comes out, of course I will be sad. And yes, that's it in this episode, the story is getting serious and continues towards its climax. |

I know someone already said this but if you check the name of the band that does the music for this anime you'll actually realize it's the same name as they came up for their band. So I guess they kinda spoiled it before it actually happened. Figured this out when I was looking for the full version of the OP to place in my playlist cause I thought it was a banger. |

What an episode; drama, the band name revelation and a variation of "I'm Nobody", with the sound space set similar to that of a concert hall. The piano version of "Wrong World" in this episode has now got me wondering if/ when an OST for this series will be releasing... Girls Band Cry has now cemented itself as top contender for my favourite anime of this season. |

@Hormigo depends where you are watching it. there is one site that uploads quicker but initially with automated ai subtitles. some other streaming sites take few hours longer to upload the episode, but the translations are better. For example: one translation is noticeably worse than the other. |

For Nina, I assume she is a kid, so her relationship with her parents are difficult. We know here that is father did not say anything about her bullying because in japan, it would have made her unable to do the studies she wanted to do. So he is not a so terrible father, but for a teen being bullied and Nina being Nina, it was terrible |

Really loved the episode. I'm sure it won't happen, but I'd really like to see Momoka actually quit, since that's what she clearly wants. I'm a bit surprised ppl didn't see that coming a mile away. It's been clear the whole time she doesn't want to be a professional musician anymore (something I can relate to). Having someone in your band who doesn't want to be there will only cause problems in the long run. As others have said, I think this is a really realistic depiction of a lot of the challenges, growing pains, and interpersonal dynamics that can come along with being in a band. Loved hearing Sawashiro Miyuki, and her character was really cool!! Performance was great. The fireworks scene was kinda cringe, but w/e. |

I just realised all the members of the main cast are all newbies in voice acting... BTW the episode was good again, though Nina's decision might lead to a derailed-life without prospects in the long run if she can't make it big in the music industry. I can't not see in Momoka her burn-out two or three years from now. |

Ok so I’m officially caught up. Wasn’t going to watch this because 3DCG isn’t my thing, but all my Twitter mutuals and YouTube subs said this was my “core” and I needed to watch it and man they were right. Easily top 4 of the season and one of my fave music anime ever. To me this is what people thought Bocchi was 🤷🏾♂️ These 7 episodes have gripped and moved me in a way that just doesn’t happen much anymore. Episodes have blown by in seemingly seconds and I’m in awe at how gorgeous this show is artistically. The banger songs, live choreography, the writing, emotional story beats, it just has it all. One of the biggest things I’ve loved is the fact that the seiyuus are all brand new and not established names. It really lends a sense of authenticity and raw emotion to all the conversations, especially between Nina and Subaru and now with the addition of Tomo and Rupa it’s even better. Like the argument over the name the band felt like a real conversation between passionate bandmates. The first full performance with 5 band members was amazing, obviously Momoka won’t leave the band, but it’s gonna be interesting to see how Nina handles it next week. The way they handle the interpersonal dynamics of a band with all the various personalities and desires of the members is great. It’s been clear for a while Momoka doesn’t want to be a professional musician anymore and keeping her in with her current mentality isn’t sustainable so somethings gotta change.. dunno what Nina’s cooking with the school drop out stuff but we’ll see Momoka’s been my best girl so far and I don’t see that changing, design, voice and personality and she’s just perfect 😍 Feel so empty now that I’m caught up lol, back to gakumas I go |

@akatsukinoluna Pretty certain she wants to go pro. It's more along the lines that she doesn't believe she could, basically giving up. Also, it seems to me, she isn't honest with herself and tries to brush everything off instead of dealing with it. There is a reason she is constantly drinking. |

Yeah, it's definitely better to wait for the later episodes and superior English subbed versions with this series. As a result of the issues stemming, I guess, from them being orphaned with no licensing in the U.S. or other English-speaking countries, the initial released versions are those machine-translated ones (I think this series at least for most/all the duration of the airing season is only licensed outside of Japan in France, so these are like machine translations from the French translated from the original Japanese - talk about telephone game distortion) with those butchered translations and sentences. I just cannot deal with the horrible English in them. It's too actively distracting and worsens the immersion experience. Consequently, I've very much found it worth it and preferable to wait and resorted to torrenting this series and Blue Archive the Animation (for the same reason). HyperlinkBlocked said: Right, but that's just an example. She's clearly letting loose with the girls, but also keeping this weird distance. She's been hurt in the past with the loss of her immediate family members in that accident and from some of her statements shows she is pretty perceptive and wise beyond her years. Given the fact that, like Momoka, she's a few years older than the other three, and she's clearly had an older sister type of energy and relationship with Tomo, just trying to give advice and positive encouragement/support to Tomo to try and steer her in the right direction, I think it's just that she doesn't see at least the other three as peers and more like squabbling kids with growing pains that are real and legitimate but more immature and small-time than her own. She has her own problems, but probably doubts that she can be helped by them in the way she helps others due to her age and experience being greater. That might be a lonely feeling. |

Quite an unexpected introduction to Nina's big sister here. She apparently arrived at Nina's apartment to check up on her, as the school notified the family that her grades are dropping. According to big sister, Nina's father is a teacher known for writing books related to education, and the reason why he treated her the way he did is because in his eyes, Nina would've been better off toughing out her bullying situation and trying to finish highschool in order to get the college recommendation she needed. It's understandable for Nina to dislike the idea of leaving her bullying situation unchecked, but I would agree with big sister on the irony of Nina moving away from home with the purpose of studying for college on her own, just to neglect said studies. Anyways, Roadtrip time! Momoka trying to figure out how to drive a stickshift van is pretty funny. Maybe Momoka needs to be reminded that the third pedal on the far left is the clutch pedal (the one that you press when changing gears), not the emergency brake. It hits very close to home to see the group at a rest stop, as someone who goes on a lot of family road trips (which I assume also applies to many people here). Tomo's backstory is kind of an antithesis to Nina's father's way of thinking. Basically, Tomo realized that her mother cared little for her wellbeing and career ambitions, so she decided that aiming for college would be pointless and costly (in both time and money) as there wouldn't be anyone to support her after graduation. Furthermore, she recognizes that very few indie musicians get their start after graduation, hence why she quit school early to begin her career. Rupa's backstory is a more tragic one; her family perished in an unspecified accident, which ultimately led her to the same conclusion as Tomo. Now we meet the supporting act who invited them here, Mine. She seems like a kind woman, and it's nice to know that she served as an inspiration for Momoka when the latter moved to Tokyo for the first time. Too bad that inspiration is being put towards quitting the business... Mine gives Nina some good insight into what Momoka might be thinking at the moment. To put it short, Momoka has failed too many times to have any confidence in this venture turning into a success, and she doesn't want to feel hurt should this venture lead to disappointment. "I'm dropping out of school." That's... going to be a problem. Momoka's whole purpose for working with Nina was to get her life back on track, and now Nina's throwing away her only chance of living a stable life, all for the sake of going pro in the music industry. |

I guess I want to talk about the music more than the anime itself. Because I'm loving everything about the characters, story animation etc... But the keys in that song at the end just did not work in my opinion. At best they didn't feel like they added anything to the song but at worst I feel like they were actively clashing against the vocals and just taking up space in a lot of places... Iunno maybe just this one song isn't for me, have loved the others |

The ragtag band of 5 girls are only lacking a band name, and tensions between Nina and Momoka still aren't resolved yet. But to send an actual day thinking of one, it's way harder than they thought it would ever be. If that's not enough, Nina's family tensions are partially resolved thanks to her sister, and both Tomo and Rupa bring life to the already strained group. For both Nina and Tomo to have an inkling between each other to branch out on their own individuality, the latter succeeded where the former wanted herself to be. For the group to come all the way to Suwa, Kamogawa, to spar with a fellow member of Momoka's old group, MinE. But this only cements the fact that Momoka still wants out of the band, because she just can't see herself going pro, the same that MinE is feeling right now. And with a stroke of luck, the band establishing themselves as Togenashi Togeari, and dishes out their songs like the norm. BTW, listen to their songs on Spotify or YouTube, they're easily one of the best of the modern age. |

@Marinate1016 Marinate1016 said: One of the biggest things I’ve loved is the fact that the seiyuus are all brand new and not established names. It really lends a sense of authenticity and raw emotion to all the conversations, especially between Nina and Subaru and now with the addition of Tomo and Rupa it’s even better. Like the argument over the name the band felt like a real conversation between passionate bandmates. as long as I know, the seiyuu itself was togenashi band member, anyway just for an information In 2021, Toei Animation, Agehasprings, and Universal Music Japan announced they would initiate a new project which would combine animation with real band activity. So yeah, they really created a real band then makes this anime and also using the band members for motion-capture, song, and voice acting. And maybe when the anime finishes we still can see they being together on a concert or something. |
