| The show's KVs were egregious, but the PVs are another story, and so is this original anime by Cygames. The star-studded manservice is prevalent of men trying to get rid of aliens (or Borderlanders), MIB style. From the one man that couldn't do a job right to get fired, police detective Brian Nightraider gets a letter from the UN's special secret Marginal Service, and without a moment of hesitation, he is brought to the HQ under its commander Theodore Thompson to the other members. Without context, Brian is whizzed away with Zeno Stokes to investigate on the same Borderland case that he failed to complete the job, and in comes the Marginal Service dealing with this, the usual way. Essentially, this is Fire Force: MIB version. A whack-ton of an explosive American-Japanese fusion start. |

| Lmao yea this was definitely an anime ass anime. And one of the first episodes of all time. Thought it was gonna be more a hardbroiled detective show then it started going the kamen rider route. It’s silly and wacky but should be a fun watch on Tuesdays. Don’t really have high hopes for the story tho. I knew as soon as Brian jumped from a roof with his fucking jacket as a parachute that this was gonna be ridiculous lmao. |

| So basically this is MIB meets Power Rangers/Super Sentai which is very interesting. This looking to be another original anime series that is geared to western audiences with some over the top action sequences like High Card. This is going to be an entertaining ride. |

| My hypotheses for this madness: One day the producer came to the main writer. "Here's the deal. Some right wing corporate big shots are paying us big money to basically make "Xenophobia The Anime", just couldn't agree about the actual story and the title. It's temporary called "The Marginal Service" and it's supposed to be about a team of superheroes in matching uniforms (Those are hipp nowadays, right?) with unique off-brand english sounding names (We don't want to be sued for copyright infringement!). Also there's an idea about making a game from the whole thing - even more money are coming! The deadline for the first draft is like yesterday, so I want it tomorrow in my Google Docs folder!" The writer did some shrooms and in this state watched some "supernatural investigation" shows (which is hinted in the episode) and also a genuine documentary about construction workers. After that he putted his nightmares on digital paper. |

| So it is a weird MIB meets dramatic Power Rangers... with less jokes but great VAs. Wish I could say I was putt off, specially because it was nothing of what I had in mind considering the pvs and such but... Let's see how it goes, expectations super low but still might be an ok watch to pass the time. |

| To be honest, I wouldn't be watching past episode 1 (or at all) if it wasn't for Miyano Mamoru... This was some cheesy introduction, let's see how it goes from there, maybe the show will grow into its charm. Judging from the bait trailer maybe it is supposed to be a parody or something. But the mix of serious vibes and wtf vibes was kinda off, so not so sure about it, really. |

| I don't think I ever started an anime that concealed it's content as good as this one. I knew nothing except the character designs and genres going into this. I think the episode wasn't bad, the cast is colorful and I like the comedy/action mix. Plus the setup with the drugs and stuff is interesting. Hopefully the overarching plot and the balance between comedy and detective stuff will be done well. |

| Oof. Like huge oof. It feels so barren. Everything feels really flat. There's no pizazz, there's no spunk, no style. The biggest style point they had was the camp announcer-ish introduction, but that honestly just sounded like it came out of nowhere and didn't complement anything. I don't like comparing anime too much, but dang when you look at other anime like this that more or less have the same formula with different variables, they're just done so much... better. Like I'd rather just be watching those again. They introduce this group of what looks like they're supposed to be an eccentric group, but they're forced eccentric if anything. Absolutely none of them make me want to learn more about them, which is so rare yet very telling for me. I'm not even really interested in how these characters will interact with each other-- they had the chance to show how these characters really work together chemistry-wise, but they mostly just had them working together. They even had homegirl taking a selfie which says a lot. We don't get to see them hanging out after. We don't get to see... honestly what the pay off is supposed to be. And that didn't look like a protein shake, by the way. I didn't buy that. Okay okay I usually don't read what everyone has written before I post, but I just had to this time because I accidentally read the post above me by GosuDRM. I totally forgot about the nakedness in the teaser PV, so I wasn't looking for any of it, but holy hell y'all right the whole PV was nude and now I'm wondering where this is supposed to come in. But I am dying laughing at people dropping for the lack of nudes like not out of disrespect but because yes yes you're right. First episode should have been introducing that if it was going to introduce that. 100% been duped in that sense and I can't help but laugh at this anime betrayal. |

I was actually thinking, yes, this has a similar set up to High Card, but it really misses the mark in comparison so far. However, it was actually the second episode of High Card that had me hooked and not the first at all, so hopefully the second episode of The Marginal Service will assuage my worries like High Card's second episode did. It's... a little different though, because they already had two chances for the whole cast to interact and it wasn't anything to write home about both times... Be honest you all speechless after watching this 😂. Gonna keep watching this cause it carry on the vibe from last season high card We'll see though! We can only hope for the best! |
