| Just caught up with this, and now it has a place in my brain, it's genuinely well written, has a surprisingly natural progression that actually does take steps towards stuff without fail, and doesn't stay samey even though it could easily opt for that (just look at how repetitive some other manga got with their formula in this regard lately). This story seem to be aware of this sort of manga structure and is willing to imply rather explicitly that it won't just stop at the confession and other cliche notes, and instead go much further than that. A new chapter on the character's life. An arc. This seem to be what is happening in here, a decisive talk with parents about one's serious relationship is pretty rare, and I think I don't see one of these outside VNs in quite a long while (most notably, Clannad is a pretty iconic example even in anime). This is very close to a 9/10 to me (though it really could do less with the fetishist disgusting jokes from Mitsudomoe though, I still can't erase from my head the protagonist being aroused imagining her mom's menstruation... seriously, what the fuck, author) let's see if it keeps going as well as it has been, if not better. It's entering the high school portion of the story, and if that doesn't have some interesting developments or some well-timed skips, it can still get very repetitive really fast. I'm hoping the author keeps the high quality narrative of currently, like the key themes and developments for every tankobon, clever callbacks to previous chapters with some sweet foreshadowing to back them up as planned (and the author sure noted that at least once that much within the story) and the overall incredibly organic step-by-step for each main character's development. This is the sort of thing I really like seeing in this type of manga, I can see the score for this one boosting considerably in the near future with the anime. 5/5 chapter |
