| For me this episode was about him and him only. He changed a lot from being Quincy-pride stubborn to anti-Quincy at all (from what we saw in the first anime) and deterring his son to dig into Quincy-related matters. That son shown at the end, with Haschwalth... wow I can't wait to know what words they'll exchange! I personally suffer when it's always about Ichigo, so while it is still technically the case in this episode, we also get to know more about the surviving Quincies in Karakura and Soul Society's 10th Division in the past. 10/10 and first time I suffer from an episode's end in this season. By the way, does anyone know how many years in the past this was? |

| After all this time, the ever-too-mysterious Isshin was finally ready to share his past with Ichigo. Interesting to note that Isshin was Captain of the Tenth Division with Hitsugaya and Matsumoto serving under him. I couldn't help but laugh as Isshin held up Hitsugaya like a child. Generally, from first impressions, Isshin's relationship with them seemed very casual. At the same time, we also got our first glimpse of Ichigo's mother, Masaki, who was adopted by the Ishida family as she was also a Quincy. Equally interesting to see a young Ryuuken who definitely has a different demeanor compared to his older self. Since Ryuuken was apparently planned to marry Masaki, his connection to Isshin became much clearer to me. The black-cloaked hollow looked extremely similar to Ichigo's transformation while fighting Ulquiorra. Of course, once again, Aizen was behind all of this, which in turn explains his connection to Isshin as well as Ichigo. I honestly didn't expect this hollow to be that strong. Isshin had some troubles and who knows what would have happened if Masaki hadn't shown up. While I would have loved to see more of Isshin's Engetsu, at the same time I have to admit that the way Masaki finished off this hollow was just brilliant. With the bloody past between the Shinigami and Quincy, Masaki was rightly initially reluctant to reveal her identity as Quincy to Isshin. It was nice to see the way Isshin reacted to this and gained the trust of a surprised Masaki. With such a crazy first meeting, I'm not surprised Isshin waited so long before telling Ichigo about it. Now I definitely want to get more information about Masaki and what happened between here and Isshin after this. |

| I always wondered why no one in Soul Society knew the name "Captain Kurosaki" when Ichigo first arrived. This episode has definitely been the best in tying together the many loose mysteries & questions behind Ichigo's bleached past. |

| Damn, that hollow looks badass! I love his mask so much! So, Ichigo got his hollow powers from that thing. Masaki killed that thing like nothing, and her training isn't even complete, but it's obvious that hollow wasn't trying to kill her. Is Ishida gonna get recruited? |
| This episode had some excellent writing and backstory. Just phenomenal story telling. Ichigo's parents are so cool and badass. Damn. Who knew that Ichigo's mom was a quincy and a hottie milf? Sheeesh. But yeah. Seeing this episode is piecing everything together. It makes complete sense how Aizen would know of Ichigo's journey from the very beginning. He conducted a hollowfication experiment in Karakura Town by sending a strong black hollow. Which is reminiscent to Ichigo's hollow form during the Ulquiorra fight. Appearance wise. Isshin being the good squad 10 captain that he is, investigates the case of his missing comrades. Shortly to encounter this black hollow. Ichigo's mom pulled an epic gamer move of letting the black hollow take a bite of her. Then blowing its head out. So badass! Isshin being the chad that he is, saves Ichigo's mom from being blown up by the hollow. Then they live happily ever after. The end. YIPPEE!!!!! |

| I'm guessing that there is something else that happened on the day Ichigo's mom died, cuz she seems pretty capable here. |
