| I love tournaments, loved them since I read Dragon Ball 14 years ago. Tenkaichi Budokai arcs were super enjoyable because the rivalries were great and Toriyama always added some mystery to the arcs that kept the audience glued to the storyline. Dark Tournament arc in Yu Yu Hakusho is heavily inspired by Dragon Ball as well, and these two anime have done best with these arcs. But I still love tournaments that are just tournaments, even if there is no real plot or character development involved |
| Tournament arc's is normally fun as long as it's not the last Tournament in Yu Yu, it's so fast pacing so the whole Tournament goes to shit before it even started. |

| Boring stuff only there to make the series longer. However worst tournament arc I think is in Yu Yu Hakusho. Only tournament arc I accept as good is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire the book fuck the movie. |

| They can be good, entertaining and effective only when used for the lighter parts of a series with not so many stakes involved (this is: when main characters participate on them just to have fun). Otherwise, if used in the serious, more heavyweight ones, not so much since they become automatically more predictable and less intriguing. What's the point of the whole tournament and matches, if you already know in advance that our main characters are the ones who are going to win? |
