cause unlike manga or light novels i dont think visual novels have good track record when it comes getting good anime adaption
Sure there are exceptions but they are just like that rare exceptions

side note still waiting for a proper Shinza Bansho or Umineko adaption kek

Steins;Gate and clannad are based on visual novels, for your information.

Since VN adaptations tend to skip a lot of the talking I think VNs just have too much talking to turn them into an anime that has wide appeal.

The VN medium has different capabilities & expectations than an anime. Specifically, an anime needs to be cut into between 12 and 26 chunks of about 26 minutes each (i.e., episodes) of basically linear story.

VNs are very, very long — substantially longer than the corresponding anime in terms of runtime to play all the way through. when adapting branching VNs, rather than adapting individual branches separately, it’s normal to merge branches together & produce a hybrid — which means character development gets nerfed.

Even in cases where arcs are totally separate & the adaptation keeps them separate (such as the 007th Expansion games), an anime can’t dedicate the same amount of screen time as a VN.

I wouldn't necessarily say difficult to adapt, as others have already said, there are some incredibly noteworthy adaptations that exist such as steins gate and clannad. I think the issue when adapting them though is exactly which story you are going to adapt. Not always the case as there are the few linear ones, but most of them are split between different heroines routes. So whichever one you adapt, you're going to annoy someone who preferred one of the other girls stories etc. I think they get around this most of the time by adapting the other girls stories into mini arcs throughout (minus their romance scenes). And then you have ones like fate that do the impossible and adapt each of the separate routes into multiple seasons, which I find works really well, but also runs the risk of never being greenlit for sequel seasons after the first, so I think most try to stick to method one, which sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

Clannad is average 60+ hours to beat the main story and Kyoto animation made with 23 episode the first season and 24 the second.
You can adapt, but is necessary a good amount of episodes to not become a amnesia or 11eyes.
I would like to see a G-senjou no Maou or Subarashiki hibi anime, but nothing less than 30 episodes.

Expectations?
You mean exceptions? You should say it correctly, don’t be surprised if people misunderstand you when you write the word incorrectly…

Yo OP! I think that "exceptions" is the word you're looking for. I just felt like mentioning that 'cause it might cause some confusion.
To the topic, I think yea, it can be hard, especially since visual novels can have hundreds of hours of content in them, not to mention the different routes and all. Still, it's not impossible as we've had some amazing visual novel adaptations as mentioned by the guys above.

No

Mobile game adaptations are the hardest to adapt unless it's a trading card game or idol game.

It's really because most VN's are pretty long with varying routes, so it's hard to adapt it properly in the space of 1 cour

Like take something like Grisaia, Kajitsu (1st VN) is the longest(?) and the anime is seen by many to be a poor adaptation, whereas Rakuen (3rd) is much shorter and to most is a good adaptation

Yeah, most have too much content that it’s almost impossible to properly adapt into an anime without skipping and rushing stuff.

Maybe or maybe not. Look what happened to Umineko and Higurashi. Umineko anime became horrible.

These adaptations tend to put aside a lot of content because VNs have too many dialogues, texts and, in most cases, multiples routes. Even Steins;Gate, one of my favorite anime which did a great job on the adaptation, left a lot of content behind

Well, there aren't as many visual novel adaptations compared to manga and light novels. Your impression probably comes from that, since the bad VN adaptations become more glaring than all the terrible manga and LN adaptations we get every year.

I think it mainly comes from the heavy dialogue style where they might want to make it shorter or change which can be harder than just directly from a manga.
