I'm planning on watching the first episode of Lost Universe to start the series again soon since I forgot about it after I took a break from anime a long while back. It's no masterpiece from what I saw, but it's got that classic late nineties-early 2000's anime vibe I love so much. Plus it seems like it was going to have a really cool yet funny premise.

Sword Art Online is mid, not utter trash. Oh yes, I'm such a rebel. 😎

Everybody should try Houseki no Kuni.

If you wanna learn how to write script and character, Houseki no Kuni gives a masterclass.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Kafka, Fu Xuan, Jingliu, Topaz and Huohuo.

I'd say 'Dennou Coil'. It has an interesting sci-fi setting and elements, it also gives a Ghibli movie feel, if you get what I mean.

Hourou Musuko has some of the best characters I've seen in an anime, but the anime gets a bit underestimated since since the adaptation takes off in the middle of the manga. I'd suggest reading the manga and then watching the anime, it's very much worth it.

Paranoia Agent has some of the best social commentary I've ever seen in any medium.

High Score Girl was a bit ignored but it's hilarious, nostalgic (especially if you grew up in the 90s/early 2000s) and even heartwarming at times.

Kaijuu no Kodomo is one of the most beautiful anime movies I've ever watched. It's also pretty weird.

Koi wa Ameagari no You ni is another beautiful and mature anime but I don't really know how to sell it to you.

Mitsuboshi Colors, Strawberry Marshmallow, Wasteful Days of High School Girl, Chio's School Road; then again all of these are slice of life revolving around all female casts so they aren’t really something just about anyone can enjoy

Don't mind me asking but how old are you? I'm only asking because you say you like the late 90's/early 00's vibe and I'm from that era and I'm curious if there are any people from a different age group that like it.

I'm 25. So I wasn't watching anime from that decade at the time, but I've fallen in love with the art style from it in recent years.

That one is quite well known. However, it doesn't get recommended enough, because it's actually insanely funny.
Particularly that Poverty Goddess chick. She's absolutely freaking hilarious.

Which reminds me of another funny anime that no one ever mentions: Denki-gai.
Be warned, though: it's yet another blue balled anime romance.

Both of these get extremely wholesome at times, now that I think about it... right before they get raunchy again.

Golden Kamuy is legit except I can not forgive them for the CGI bear. If people drop Golden Kamuy after seeing the CGI bear I would not hold it against them.
