| Depends on how you define hentai. To me it means anything whose primary objective is to make you fap. If it pays more attention to having an actual story and characters than to being fap material, it isn't really porn for me anymore. Even if you still can fap to it. If the sex scenes feel secondary to a plot, I can't see it as porn. It's just an erotic story. And MAL does tag those as Hentai on some occasions. For example A Kite is terrible as fap material imo and okay as a story, but it is labeled hentai. There's also the erotic arthouse movies like Kanashimi no Belladonna that have the Hentai tag for some unknown reason. It doesn't really get much farther away from pornography than that. At the same time I also often see stuff tagged as ecchi on MAL that other sites have labeled as hentai. So in general I wouldn't completely trust the tag to be consistent and only refer to porn. It would be practical if it did, but well. |

In live-action, having a couple of actors, a set and a camera or two is cheap so there's a strong motive to focus on what you can do with those alone, i.e. nothing but sex. But with animation the main cost is drawing and animating everything, so having 20 locations and 10 characters costs little more than some extra design work, and some more actors, but I think they're a far smaller proportion of the cost. So spinning stories is far more economic. (Although there's also culture at place here, Japanese live-action porn is also more likely to have considerable non-sex content than Western porn, though to a lesser extent than the animated stuff.) |

| I've watched a while ago, I check from time to time but almost nothing. That phase lasted less than a year, it got boring pretty fking fast and I feel like the industry is mostly copy-paste and it got repetive AF to me. Most have shitty plot and animation, a couple were better than some normal animes tho.
