Favourite genre of metal. Although I tend to gravitate more to UNTRUE ENTRY LEVEL POSEUR GAY POP METAL, like CoF, I like pretty much all styles of bm, be it orthodox, symphonic/atmospheric, avantgard-ish stuff or girly "blackgaze".

Some of my fav bands: Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, Bathory, Immortal, Inquisition, Summoning, Abigor, A Forest Of Stars, Marduk, Sear Bliss, Lunar Aurora, Limbonic Art, Rotting Christ, Urfaust, Alcest.

I still think two best bm-albums ever are Ulver's "Bergtatt" and "Nattens Madrigal".

This year's fav (out of those I heard, ofc) are: Varathron's "Patriarchs Of Evil", Abigor's "Hollenzwang" and "Grave Mounds & Grave Mistakes" by A Forest Of Stars.

black metal sucks.

Except 'imperial circus decadence'.

every other black metal band other than them should just disband.

I used to be just like you,but later grew affinity for it.Yes there are many shity black metal bands, but there are great musicians and black metal bands, you just have to have a ear for this type of music. Its just different taste, you don't understand it yet.
There is no bad genre, you can always find a great band in any genre of metal,if you don't like it,doesnt mean its shit. Black metal has a certain "necro"sound on purpose, not all ears can endure it.

Does Agalloch count?

I don't typically listen to metal for black elements. More of a folk metal guy.

1st and Second wave of Black Metal.

Currently listening to the primordial soup that would later inspire the bands that would fully realize the sound and song-craftstmanship.

So, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Sodom, Destruction, Kreator, Bathory, Venom.

Favorite of all time? Thats a hard one. Though if it was all banned or destroyed, Id be comfortable meditating on Burzum - Burzum/Aske LP indefinitely.

Not my favourite metal subgenre but definately one that has much to offer. Some people do not consider them as Black Metal, but they were quite influencial in bands like Emperor.

Fuck, I love this guys.

I listen to some. I mostly prefer black metal with a lot of thrash elements, same as with death metal.
Beyond contemporary "black/thrash", I like old Burzum, old Mayhem (Deathcrush, which is firmly rooted in the old extreme thrash vein), a good deal of French/LLN stuff and Forgotten Woods/Joyless.

I don't know about "number one favorite" songs (impossible for any genre), but this one is up there:

PS: Also, Abigail!

It wouldn't be a proper weeb-post without mentioning Abigail.

Burzum
Watain
Tribulation
Marduk

I've been listening to lots of black metal's second wave stuff, lately. Darkthrone is my favourite black metal band, followed by Burzum and some Mayhem (what a cliché). I also enjoy some oldschool black metal bands like Bathory and Venom (if you can consider their first releases as black metal).

My favourite album is Darkthrone's Transilvanian Hunger, if you have listened to some similar works, feel free to leave suggestions.

I needed time to get into black metal actually, but now I really appreciate it and love it. There's a lot of bands that I'm really fond of, but some of my favorites are: Burzum, Bathory, Silencer, Behemoth, Morbid, Dark Funeral, Batushka, Mgla, Satyricon, Sigh, Negura Bunget, Bucovina, Carach Angren, Watain, Mayhem and Venom. I actually saw Venom Inc. live a few months ago and I had a blast.

If Silencer got to you, for the love of god never listen to Xasthur's Suicide In Dark Serenity EP.

Also I forgot Xasthur, Hellhammer, Woods of Ypres, Alcest, Forgotten Woods, Nocturnal Depression, Leviathan, Midnight, Forgotten Tomb, Ulver and Moonsorrow in my post.

And probably a bunch of others.
