The story... of course. That's why most of "old" anime was Masterpiece.

Majority of oldschool 'masterpieces' are character driven.

It becomes children cartoon

Except for some it mostly depends on the genre for me.
story: Sci-Fi, Space, Horror, Thriller, Mystery
characters: SoL, Mahou Shoujo, Romance, Comedy, Adventure
Others are mostly a combination of both. In the end both of them are about equal for me.

Character i guess. But honestly i prefer both.

But seriously, anime/manga with good plot and character at the same time is very rare. but there's many of them which is only good in one of them.

Example : Naoki Urasawa's Monster and 20th Century Boys.

Monster has really good mc with excellent villain but has just ok plot.

On the other hands, 20th Century Boys has one of the best and most creative plot i've ever read, but it has really really bland and uninteresting characters (nearly the entire characters).

But i enjoyed watching Monster more than reading 20th Century Boys. So maybe character is more important to me.

Another example which has done excellently both the character and the plot is Gintama (seriously, this is the only anime i've ever watched with both the character and the plot done well). It heavily focuses on the character introduction at first (sadly a lot of people actually bored and dropped the show because of this part), and than the actual plot comes in.

If you have a recommendation of anime/manga which has both good plot with good character as well, please tell me.

ps : this comment is written using google translate so i'm sorry if you hard to understand what i'm trying to say.

Story. The "good characters" I see in anime, are just the same characters I've seen a million times.

Same here, I like plot better. The more structured and the more intrictate the better. I like good characters, but I couldn't care less about character development and whatnot, I like characters who stay the same during the whole course of the series and their personalities and everything are established from the start.

I'd say characters but... something traumatic happened to me.

So I prefer both. If either of them is shit, my view for that anime will easily go downhill.

Characters without a doubt, though a good story should be present if I can't get into the characters then I can't watch for too long.

I would say both but I'm more into characters because having badly created ones will in-turn also make the story bad.

I'd say it depends, especially on series with sequel that character design might change and that'd probably might affect me. I mean, WuG Shin Shou is just ohh boy that bad, but I got used to it...

Characters all the way. All the fancy plot dressings mean nothing if the audience doesn't care about the characters, while even the most mundane things can be made interesting if you care about the characters.

Characters. Of course, I would rather have both but, if I had to choose, it's definitely characters because, personally, that's what makes me get into an anime and my favorite thing in an anime is also character developments as the series progresses.

That’s like asking “pie or pie filling”. Characters and characterization is encompassed by “the story”.

I’m assuming you meant “plot or characters”, to which I would answer “characters”. Both are important though.

I have to like most of the cast to enjoy a show. Shit. Everyshow in my favorites is there because I hella loved the cast (of course, there's other reasons.).

If the cast is too shitty....

...than I drop.

both are important but more so depends on what genres the anime is if it's a SOL then characters are the most important. If it's a something like https://myanimelist.net/anime/13125/Shinsekai_yori?q=shinsekai%20yori then story is far more important

Both a story can't exist without a charcter. And a character can't be great withoyt a good story.
"among monsters and humans, there are only two types.
Those who undergo suffering and spread it to others. And those who undergo suffering and avoid giving it to others." -Alice
“Beauty is no quality in things themselves: It exists merely in the mind which contemplates them; and each mind perceives a different beauty.” David Hume
“Evil is created when someone gives up on someone else. It appears when everyone gives up on someone as a lost cause and removes their path to salvation. Once they are cut off from everyone else, they become evil.” -Othinus

I prefer characters, I could go through a shitty story if the characters are good and interesting/ have good develpment but I couldn't go through a good story if the characters are annoyting as heck

Characters with at least not too shabby story. It always intrigue me to see how those characters make their decisions through out the series.

I mean, it's hard to care about the story if the characters are bad so they kinda go together. Even so, I've enjoyed some shows with average/bland characters but I don't think I've ever enjoyed a show with good characters and a bad story.

For me personally, I feel like an anime has to have enjoyable characters for me to get into a series, no matter how amazing the plot is. If I do not care about the characters, then I am not going to care about the plot.

I say both can make a show, if the story is really interesting and the characters are just alright it'll still be a very interesting watch for me, And viceversa, a silly goofy story can still be fun enjoyable anime if the characters are very likable/enjoyable, as long as none of them is so bad that it ruins the other

I think I care more about the direction and the flow of the show than both tbh, things like dialogue(how fitting is it for the anime), how interesting is the narrative, how good is its presentation of it's own elements and how well is it executed, actually Execution is my #1 probably

There really needs to be both. We can have a good story and bad characters makes for a bad anime, also good characters and a bad story also makes for a bad anime. However, I really need to have good characters in my anime. I will start an anime and right off will recognized if the anime has good characters that i like or not.

Both complement each other, I find it hard to like shows with bad stories and good characters as much as I do shows with bad characters and good stories.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

Characters I guess. If the story is bad, the character might still make us love the show. If the character is bad and the story is good, there's really no reason to watching it. Just my opinion haha
