I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this by the way. Is Himouto! Umaru-chan a family friendly anime? I previewed half of episode 1 and it seems light and easy, no panty shots or ecchi. Is there any ecchi elements to the show at all?

No it will be a bad influence on little kids

Edit - though as far as I'm aware it's clean (haven't seen it)

There will always be those traditional bikini fan service episodes in pretty much any anime that airs, but I would consider this show family-friendly.

There is some light ecchi and the argument could be made that there are some incest undertones. But it's mostly family friendly

No ecchi elements at all
It's mostly gross greasy snacks, disgusting sugary drinks and girls
There's a blue haired best girl so go for it

As long as an anime has a female character, it will be never family friendly.

The most inappropriate thing I can remember in the show is a joke where her brother was thinking to himself something like "What did I do in the days before I was watching Umaru?" and then he looks at his hand for a second and then awkwardly looks away.

So it's pretty okay for some younger people.

I don't remember there being much ecchi fanservice. The story is pretty childish so even though it is seinen (made for adult men) I'm sure people of all ages can enjoy it without having to worry about anything. It feels a lot like shounen slice of life such as Lucky Star and Squid Girl.

Yes. This show glorifies being a bum, which is definitely bad for children.

If you're talking about the content, it's completely family friendly.
But as for the characters, plot, etc., I wouldn't recommend this one to kids.. the morals are pretty teenage-focused and would sound inappropriate to them and are therefore, a bad influence.

No, Umaru is the spawn of Satan, how in the world would she be family friendly?

There is no ecchi, there is a tiny little bit of fanservice only if you want to see it that way - one moment has Umaru in the bathtub - no, you're not going to "see" anything, but for some folks that is already too exciting. And one episode they are on a beach for some time.
Oh, and Ebina once mentions how she has "done something" to/with that giant plushie (plushy? vocabulary) she got from Taihei.

I did NOT perceive any "incest undertones" whatsoever.

And I think it is fine for kids - all of Umaru's manifestations are cool daydream/wishful self-insert fantasies, maybe more for girls than boys.
As an adult I enjoyed it, too, so yes - target demographic could be family.

And make sure you have translation/ subtitles for the OP

I think yes? Of course it should have a parental guidance because being an otaku is not highly suggested. Hahaha!

No, that's what I got because when someone asks what they did when they had ample free time and then LOOKS AT THEIR HAND, it's obvious what they meant by it.

I just watched the show and I really enjoyed watching it. The show is a wholesome family comedy, and there are no real ecchi elements to it, so I consider it family friendly.

There are some caveats you might want to consider before watching the show with your family though. I realize different folks have different values so yymv on how important the following points are.

While not really an ecchi show, there is at least 1 bath scene (where nothing is shown) and a beach episode with girls in bikinis (ones that actually cover the important bits though).

While the show does not have any incest tones, Umaru is a bit of a bro-con and gets a bit jealous when she sees girls trying to get close to her brother. This is never played off as sexual though, just a bratty child wanting to monopolize her brother's affection. Most of this was in season 2 though.

Umaru is a spoiled brat, and while her brother chides her for her behavior, he ultimately enables her and spoils her rotten. To be fair, Umaru grows slowly over the course of the show as she gains more friends and starts to realize the affects her brattyiness has on her brother, but a young child might not realize that Umaru's behavior is meant to be portrayed as bad. In short, she is not the best role model.

Hope that helps anybody still interested in this 3 year old question. Answering it certainly helped me fight boredom at work ;)

Umaru is pretty family-friendly tbh. I won't go out to say it's not family friendly just because of her not so cool personality.
