I have three separate timelines for how I got into anime.

2002/03-2012: Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon were my first taste of anime. I don't include them on my list since I haven't wholly watched all of the Pokemon and YGO anime and I don't feel like it.
2009-2014/15: Naruto was the first Shonen anime I watched and made me try out other Shonen anime. However, I only know more anime than I've watched. For example, during this time I already knew a lot of anime but didn't put the effort to watch them until the next period.
2014-Present: The first seasonal anime I've finished was Akame ga Kill. Since then I've been watching anime every season as well as some anime I became familiar with during the previous period.

In short the key anime of what made me an anime fan were: Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, Naruto, & Akame ga Kill.

Excluding childhood shows like Pokemon, Digimon etc and Studio Ghibli movies, the one anime that made me start watching anime as a hobby and on a regular basis was Naruto. This was in 2006. As soon as i discovered that there were more anime to watch online i immediatly dropped Naruto.

The first anime I really liked that I knew was "anime" was Clannad & After Story. My timing was such that I watched the final episode or two of After Story as it aired.

The anime that really pulled me into the medium a few years ago was One Piece, though.

Think it was Fate Stay Night, back when it came out on Netflix. Which was kinda meh.

Kara no Kyōkai/Garden of sinners kept me going.

Altough i had (and still have) a giant 'should be watched someday' bookmark list long before i actually started watching. And although i'm a eighties baby/nighties kid myself, i never watched much tv when i was younger.

I watched City Hunter at a really young age(I think hmmm...about 3/4 years old?) but just a couple episode because the nudity etc XDDDD
But well- the first anime I've watched (the whole series) might be sailor moon & Cat Eyes(also the same mangaka as City Hunter~)

Digimon Xros Wars!

I watched Shakugan no Shana s1, half of its s2 (i plan to finish it someday) and Ragnarok the animation then quit.

About 11 months later i started DXW. Just randomly picked it and started watching, and since then i've never stopped watching anime.

It was probably Cowboy Bebop. I remember watching it late at night in my parent's house while no one was home. I was too young to watch it, but the animation had me hooked for a little bit.

Pretty cliched answer but Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. In around the 6th grade. Technically got into the manga first and then switched into the anime. Got about halfway through the manga and then started the anime from the beginning. While it was the first one that hooked me completely my first actual anime episode I watched was SAO and the first manga I read was Fairy Tail, but I found these two to be just alright at first, and ended up dropping Fairy Tail pretty early on. Then some of the shows that further cemented me into anime were Clannad, Fate Zero, and Steins;gate. So yeah :D

Used to watch anime on TV as a kid, so I'd try to caught on to my favorite shows until it got tiring that I'll only watch what's there to see at the time. I learned about anime streaming sites, but never took interest in the first place.

When I did become interested, Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT first caught my attention because of the title. That was before I realized it's the second season of the series. And I just kept going from there later on until now and still is.

Other than anime from my childhood: Sakurasou. Weird place to start and I honestly can't remember how I even found it but yeah, Sakurasou :) After that, I watched a ton of romance/school anime, I'm still yet to add them all to my list because I've forgotten whether I finished some of them or not. (This was a year before I created my MAL account).

For me it's kind of weird.
When I was 18, my friend made a post on facebook about some random thing and someone in the comments wrote something like "The goriest anime I've seen is Blood -c" but in Swedish, after that I watched it and wanted to watch more.
After Blood-c, I saw Zero no Tsukaima (all the seasons) and Rosario to Vampire and after that I was completely hooked.

The first run of Pokemon got me when I was eight. Then Dragonball Z and Gundam Wing on Toonami hooked me for my teenage years, but when I watched Kill la Kill in 2013 it was the first anime I ever watched an anime from start to finish on a week by week basis. I'm talking I watched it two days after airing and got into seasonal anime and it was all down hill from there.
