"With a fantastic story and even better characters and world class animation to go along with it, there’s not much here to complain about. The music fits perfectly to the story and sets the right tone every single time without fail, but isn’t quite good enough to stand on its own without the rest of the show. The first and last episodes of Fate/Zero are definitely the “worst” in the series, but still manages to be leagues better than the best episodes of most other shows. It should also be important to note that the show is confident enough in its story and characters to carry it that it never tries to gain viewership and attention with unnecessary and disturbing fan service. Yet another sign of maturity."

"If you want to build a house, you need a solid foundation. This only gets truer the higher you build. Fate/Zero is a story striving to be a skyscraper, to reach greatness, and as such needs a solid foundation. This first season is just that – a solid foundation. I recommend everyone to give this one a shot, especially those who like their fights to be well-choreographed, their characters to come with depth, and their anime to be filled with despair."

#3: Review by Archaeon
"Fate/Zero isn't a perfect show, but while it does have several minor issues (and one "filler" episode), it does exactly what it sets out to do - capture the attention of the audience and make them want more. The story is intelligent, and while conversations and discussions can sometimes feel a little tedious, the dialogue is often quite interesting - moreso than the show's predecessor's anyway. Although the series can boast stylish, fast-aced action set-pieces, it also studiously avoids combat for the sake of gratuitous violence."

"This isn't an amazing series, but it was an interesting and beautiful one as well. While it's well done and has some interesting philosophy, and has some great action and visuals, it's pretty clear that this first half of the story, and its characters and emotional payoffs are holding back until season 2."

"To be honest, Fate/Zero's premise sounded rather cheesy to me at first. But I'll promise you, the execution is fantastic, thrilling, and mature. That ranges from the fantastic visuals to the excellent soundtrack, the interesting and intriguing characters, their dialogues, as well as to the very well realized fight scenes in between."
