I just watched Kimi No Na Wa, and it was good, no doubt, but why did it make people cry? I just cannot understand it. When did you start crying? There were never any scene where it was wrecking my feelings.

It was a good movie, but giving it the highest score on AnimeList, I simply can't understand.

OT : Didn't watch it (waiting for BD) so no idea.... But I'm guessing that this shit is probably overrated.... Beside, not all anime makes everyone cry..

While I didn't personally cry it certainly tugged at the heartstrings. That's because it's a stupendously cathartic experience. The movie lays down a series of gut punches and revelations that stand to extend the distance between Mitsuha and Taki. It's sad to watch that happen, since we spent so much time watching them get to know and respect one another.

I think I'm not good for reference though, I'm so egoistic that I can't cry at anything unless I'm directly affected by it in some way. Well Clannad after story got me close to tears with the train scene though.

It didn't make me cry either, but it is still a great movie.

If you're talking about kimi no na wa then i didn't cry at all.. i don't even think it's sad though.. but i do think it was good (and a bit confusing). I didnt cry when watching several sad animes too..

But damn, one anime unexpectedly made me shed some tears 3 times. When i didn't even shed a single tears when watching plastic memories or clannad AS or angel beats and the last episode of anohana and shigatsu, One Piece made me shed some tears when all they do was just burned out a ship. And the other two is when i watched marineford arc.

I'm starting to get embarrassed by my own forum signature line.. XD

Not just I didn't cry, but aside from the overall quality, I didn't find the intellectual content of any singular value at all, pretty bland, though a bit heavy sentimentally.

They cry because the high resolution background art from Shinkai makes their eyes water. That's all that is to his movies.
I probably regret this post by now.

I cried,

because i was sleepy. Seems like marathoning Kimi no Na wa( artwork is the good stuff, like a painting and also the b**b grab scenes lol, but its not a tearjerker, or maybe the people in my locality is that shallow) and a couple of throwback animes made me cry.

Dude, chillax
Kimi no Na wa had nothing to cry about.
It was a happy movie (^^)
Only the characters have to cry not us....and it wasn't even something to cry about. It's not like it was long lost love! It was teenage infatuation. Infact, if I were in Mitsuha or Taki's place, I would be like....woah I can time travel and shit
Did someone tell you they cried?
They are not normal
Why would they cry in Kimi no Na wa
They need to see someone

Desperate people who can't wait for a better quality release...

From what I know, visuals in this anime is amazing so I'd rather wait a few more months to watch in best quality than some blurry garbage shiet.
dont't watch that anime if you are going to give it 1* and cry 10000 words in review about it.

It's the relatability for sure. I wouldn't expect everyone (or even most) people to tear up at it, but like for me the whole thing with their relationship and loving each other but being so far apart, the catastrophe that strikes the town, etc. just hits cords with my own life so it makes me pretty emotional. I think if you haven't had those experiences you're unlikely to be affected that way.

Watched the movie yesterday. It was nice. Definitely overrated but nice.

Loved the first half, the second not as much. Probably because I expected something else. I wanted it to explore the contrast between the country and the city more. But it went a different direction.

I see why it appealed to so many people the same way why Shinkai's other movies don't. It definitely is the kind of mainstream movies the industry needs. And while it didn't appeal to me, it's still is (really?) good movie.

I tear up easily most of the time, but didn't here. No complains, it didn't need me to.

well, you mostly have shounens among top rated animes, so i guess it's normal. For example, i couldn't stand Hunter x Hunter or Haikyuu.

Fair enough. I guess i like Hunter x Hunter because i grew up with the 1999 one. So not everyone can digest it.

First watch through i didnt even get emotional because i was preoccupied with the confusing plot. Second watch through i was able to appreciate the emotions the film was conveying a lot better, and got slightly misty eyed for mitsuha's mothers's death and was moved when mitsuha found out that taki wrote i love you on her hand. The reunions on the mountain and at the end between the two leads i felt were meant to be emotional but i didnt really feel anything because it was built up for too long to be effective. Third time through i didnt feel anything, probably cos i watched it 3 hours after my 2nd rewatch and was emotionally exhausted lol.

I just finished watching the movie. I must say it's not really a tear-jerking piece of work.
There's not really a scene that would make anyone surely cry. You know, that kind of deep heavy feeling. It doesn't exist. What exists is a bittersweet, mostly sweet feeling. Or may be light-hearted would be the right word.

Great moviie.

No worries! I didn't cry either- although I really liked it. I know some people that did cry, though. But the scene where Taki found Mitsuha's name of the list op people that died was kinda sad.

Makes a lot of sense.

On thread:
I'm someone "cold" IRL, I lack emotions, only remember ever crying once in all the anime and movies I've seen in my entire life.

While I did not cry watching this movie it was at the very least a 9-9.5/10, being someone who lacks emotions I still felt quite sad during the movie, somewhat close to crying but not really. Hard to explain.

This especially hits hard for people who have had strong long distance relationships like me.

Just watched the English dub and though it did give me the feels and I have cried from watching anime before this one did not do it.
It is emotional and everything but the end was not sad. Honestly, I don't think anyone in the room cried during the movie...

If you do want to cry, I second Death Parade. I was a lot harder to be brought to tears when I watched this and I was howling like a puppy wolf at the end.

Some people can relate with the characters' longing and sense of having lost something important to them, which makes it a much more emotional connection. If you haven't had such an event in your life, I can understand why you wouldn't feel as strongly about it. It is after all not a "tragic" movie, but a very sentimental one.
