Well, since I just recently watched a bizarre propaganda anime from 1936....I guess, I'll ask you guys...

Have you watched anime from this period? Or do you even want to try to?

Oldest anime series I have seen is probably "City Hunter" and I think that was aired in 1987? So yeah, wasn't too old. If you're into old anime, try that. Got a pretty cool headed MC :D

Surprisingly enough... there are some posted on Youtube.

Even the first ever full length anime film is subbed there. Which is another WW2 propaganda, btw.

I've seen some stuff from the 30s and 40s. Some were interesting and some were just random shorts. They are pretty hard to find.

I don't give a try yet, for some pre war. The old I'd seen was excerpt from panda and magic serpent something from 1950s. They said it was the legit first feature or what to be considered/called first anime I just realized by this thread that momotaro's propaganda was the earlier feature, it hour long.

Yes, I'm a fan of shorts. They're interesting time capsules. I love the one about the spider (forgot the name), even though it's kind of crap.

These are on KissAnime, so just search for them.

Shoujouji no Tanuki-bayashi Ban Danemon
Shoujouji no Tanuki-bayashi
Kobutori
Doubutsu Sumo Taika
Chou no Sainan

If you search some of the recommendations, Kiss actually has a bit.

I've watched a few pre-1950 Anime, and some of them are pretty good. Some of my favorites from that era are "Ahiru no Otegara," "Ahiru Rikusentai," "Izakaya no Ichiya," "Kaumori," "Norakuro Gochou," "Tengu Taiji," Ugokie Kori no Tatehiki, and Kobutori.

I've watched some of them and considering the technology back then, they're obviously short and mediocre.

An interesting detail is that many old anime of that age seems to be influenced by Disney :o

I've watched some of the very very first anime (that are like 30sec), just like in Europe or America, animated movies were already here in the 10's. They're not that hard to find if you just want to watch random ones, but if you are really specific about ONE anime you want to watch...yeah it's going to be hard, especially since many of those anime were partially (or completely) destroyed or lost...

Namakura Gatana comes to mind. Probably the first anime ever made with a semblance of plot. Still gave it a 1 though lmao.
