I want to live in a world where everyone(including me) is a beautiful 2D person living in a beautiful 2D world. If I could live in a slice of life anime(or any genre, really, I'll take anything), I swear, I would never leave ever.

At the rate science/technology is progressing, most likely.

By true virtual reality I presume you are referring to a SAO kind of virtual reality, where you are able to see, talk, taste, hear, smell, and so on, everything within that virtual world, where your body is completely still in the normal world, and you are controlling yourself in the virtual world through your brainwaves, just like your real body.

The issue with this is already one very obvious thing, and that is that we really don't know exactly how the brain works yet, and we have very little idea of how to send it false signals to trick it into tasting, smelling or feeling something specific as something in a virtual world.
Also, even when we create the technology and we leap forward in our knowledge of the brain, it would take years for the technology to reach the Gaming sector.

Being able to stop brainwave signals from being send to the brain by the body, and vice versa, would be amazing technology in the medical sector, especially for performing surgery without anesthetic, for example, or keeping someone who is suffering from chronic pain in a painless environment.

I hope you have a long life, because I believe we're gonna be waiting for quite a while before this technology becomes as free to use as we're hoping! xD

Your question is about the progress of technology, but your post is pure fantasy. They don't really fit together.

If you're talking about virtual reality then you can't stick with 2D. You're going to have to go 3D at least on some level.

Trying too hard to stay 2D will just end up like old computer games in the early days of 3D where the world itself is 3D but the actors and other details are 2D sprites, which causes them to look like paper cutouts. And I don't care how detailed you make them, it's going to look odd and artificial.

I believe there is a possibility. If it happens that would be really far from now. I think 3D would be way better suited than 2D. I dont think it would be reality if everything looks fake because of 2D.

You see the problem is that VR is 3D technology.
So no, us as inferior 3 dimensional beings will never deserve to live out the greatness that is 2D existence..

I've thought on this on occasion, but never really thought something like that could be possible until my eye's got opened up to it through certain anime series. It's possible, and I would take a good Slice of Life virtual reality over this shit hole reality anytime.

its hard but not impossible though in fact Europe and USA are trying to reverse engineer the human brain with this 2 projects that will end sometime around 2020+

Brain mapping projects have been happening since last century. That's nothing new. I doubt those things will go as smoothly as what's in their plan.

no, because it's too expensive and dangerous. who would accept a risky brain surgery just for games or anime?

Nah no way. The amount of effort to render a world and characters in a way that would be 3-dimensional, which is necessary for VR interaction (what if you wanted to walk around a person/object) yet maintain a very 2D/drawn look from every angle would be insane, if not entirely impossible.

Ocolus rift may be an example for what you are referring to even though it's not that well engineered yet.
