Not a big fan, but when it's used well then I have no problems with it. This album in particular is pretty great and I'd recommend it to those who would generally be turned away from anything vocaloid related.

You've asked what people think about them but don't want people to say anything negative? What's the point in asking for people's opinions?

Anyway, my thoughts:

I think they are quite clever technically but that's about it.

The music itself is lifeless and kind of sterile. It lacks something. I guess that makes sense considering its computer generated music, created by code. It has an obvious auto tune thing going on too and lacks tone, it's flat.

The vocaloids themselves, while technically rather clever, again seem sterile and lifeless. They lack personality and that thing, that's difficult to describe, that makes performers appealing.

I'm a huge fan of Vocaloids but I do see why there is dislike for them. Especially dislike for the high-pitch and jarring vocals people can make for music. That was the main reason why it turned me away at first. However, I soon found out there are Vocaloid songs where they don't sound obnoxious and found out about VocaloEDM (Vocaloid + Electronic Dance Music).

Plus those non- obnoxious songs are pretty good and some make Hatsune Miku and the other Vocaloids close to real.

For example if anyone is interested:

or

Also, I can't bring myself to like "World is Mine" even though its a hugely popular vocaloid song. The high pitch screaming she does pisses me off.

[color=gray]I like the concept of Vocaloids, I like the Vocaloids themselves, and I like their songs as well.

But for the record, I'm not a huge fan of their vocals. I usually listen to covers of Vocaloid songs.

well, when I heard there was such thing as english, spanish, korean and chinese vocaloids I went a bit insane.
that's one thing I don't like about vocaloid.
I don't trust wikipedia, but on it, it says vocaloid is "a japanese voice synthesizing program" not english, spanish or any other language.

and another thing I think is trash about it is that utau is almost the same damn thing.

sorry about my first post OP. i am deeply ashamed of my actions. to make up for it i will repost my opinion in a more polite manner without commenting on the quality of your thread:

in my humble opinion vocaloid sucks ass. for whatever reason when i hear vocaloid/autotune-style vocals, i feel the sudden urge to take a huge shit. i'm actually convinced if the brown-note exists, it would exist in the form of vocaloid.

it's fine
well, as I like vocaloid, I don't really like the concerts, how utau is almost the same, the fangirls, because I don't like people who squeal over stuff happening, how vocaloid has different languages when wikipedia considers it "a japanese synthesizing program"

Vocaloid Editor it's a 'host' software inside which you use/operate any voicebank
(be it Japanese, English or other languages), that's how it works, you can't use
voicebanks (vocaloids) by themselves without editor.

I love em ^^

When I first starting listening to them I didn't like the songs that sounded hella robotic. Some of the songs sounded more like actual voices. After listening them more though I got used to it and I really like em.

"Japanese"as in from Japan, not referencing the language.

Utau's can be nice occasionally too. Its basically vocaloid for poor people because its free and you can add your own voice banks or download other peoples banks.

Used to like everything Vocaloid related. Nowadays most of dem high pitched noises just hurt the head.

BUT, Vocaloid has been proven to fit really well into EDM. Especially Miku's dark append. Also, Kikuo is some sort of God.

The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

It's true the Vocaloid EDM producers tend to only make trance songs the most... There aren't many songs that are of other (sub)genres. But man, how I wish there was.

Speaking of fast beat songs, I think this is one of those Vocaloid EDM song that I've actually liked.

[*] Miku is overrated. Shes not the best sounding

This.

It seems that a lot of the ones like Miku just get auto-tuned to death to help cover up poor transitions between notes. There are still some songs that when done by someone who is very experienced can blow me away. It's rare but it does happen from time to time.

I've heard a good bit of the newer ones that sound much better for whatever reason. Maybe the people using them have worked with the older ones and know some tricks or maybe it's because they are just easier to use. I've never used the program so I wouldn't know.

Ayeee.

But anyway, I never used to be a fan when I first heard of of Vocaloid. Started slowly growing on me over the past 4 or so years when I thought I'd give it a try. Not sure what song it was, but I started listening to songs with vocaloids, albeit rarely.

I'm not exactly a big, big fan of vocaloid today, but I do listen to it regularly now and have a few favorite producers I like.

Eh, they're kinda cool. More so in a technical level.

I just personally can't handle listening to a lot of vocaloid stuff purely because the singing just sounds too mechanical to me. Maybe they'll get good enough someday, but at the moment it bothers me too much. Which is a shame 'cause there are some good vocaloid songs out there. I just try to find a good utaite version of them. If possible, a cover by Gurutamin.
