It was a crazy arc. But it was good.

Not the best of arcs, but was definately a much darker Arc.
And some memorable characters.

Personally I enjoyed the GI Arc more, mainly due to the training.

It was a good arc but did have some problems with the pacing and the amount of spoon feeding it did.

Pretty much every fight against the lower ants. The fights with the leopard guy and king of the jungle were especially annoying.

Worst arc as I found myself constantly skipping through the episodes. Basically, poor pacing, sudden change in narrative and pointless explanations made me lost my patience on this show. It was unbearable.

It is widely considered as the best arc of any manga/anime series of all time .

Besides, when you get this kind of animation,

that's pretty fucking awesome.

I feel you. Rather than skipping, I switched to the manga. The arc after it is better (most people who disliked CA arc, liked it)

You mean the Election arc? Yeah, I like it enough to not skip through the episodes as it felt more HxH like if you know what I am saying. Still, can't shake off the feeling that the author has run out of ideas.

Yup, a lot of people agree that it brought back the HxH feel. Well that's probably due to poor planning that you mentioned and the disjointed nature of his arcs and how jarring they are sometimes in nature and feel from eachother. The arc he is supposed to be currently writing seems to be another long arc, and he said in a interview that he has 3 stories left before wrapping it up.

I love it. The ending was beautiful and brought me down to tears. When an action shonen does romance better than most shoujo or josei, then you know you're watching a masterpiece. And unlike melodramatic shows like Naruto or Clannad, this didn't seem like it was trying to force me to cry yet it did manage to unlike those. The writing and everything in general was great but the relationship between The King and Komugi is what sold it to me.

Objectively speaking, it's in the top ten best Shonen anime arcs. It wasn't as well executed in the manga, though.

As for how my personal opinion is on it: it was fucking amazing! Though I prefer Yorknew, this was beautiful; it gets a perfect score.

Think the director could have done a better job by removing useless narration which disrupts the flow. Other than that it's really good ;)

It was stretched out, had some not so small asspulls by the end and again, nothing from the past arcs was resolved and the ending was anticlimactic. I prefer Yorknew a lot over the CA arc.

I haven't finished it yet, so these aren't my final thoughts on it, but it's unlikely I'm gonna change my opinion of it drastically. Will include spoilers without using tags...

So far, it's been a mixed bag. There are plenty of things to love in the arc, but also quite many that detract from the overall experience. My main gripe with it has been the beginning. The introduction of the ants could have been handled more smoothly in my opinion and even the ant design itself would have benefited from retaining at least some defining traits of the ants. Like seriously, some of them like
look too goofy to be taken seriously and what's even more silly is that some were born with their clothes on. Still, these are minor complaints.

I never really cared about Kite and it never felt like Gon bonded to him that much in the first place. His attachment to him has been quite forced, though again, I don't find it such a big deal. What made me dislike the progression of the arc was the training episodes and meeting Knuckle and Shoot. The challenge itself seemed redundant and it was so unrealistic to waste a month trying to pick 2 hunters when everyone knew the king was about to be hatched.
So yeah, the first 20/25 episodes of the arc were what I enjoyed the least. I liked the short (mis)adventures of the Phantom Troupe, though. It was a cool appearance.

The second part of the arc has been much more solid all around. As soon as the story focused on the hunters trying to disrupt the selection, it went back to being great. I especially liked the episodes with Knov infiltrating the palace because it showed just how outclassed they were.
Then, other obvious positives to the arc have been Gon's breakdown, which was perfectly depicted and well, Netero vs Meruem. The fight itself was excellent, but what made it even better was the fact that both the fighters had been developed beforehand. Netero's backstory turned out to be beautiful, thanks in no small parts to the art.
Meruem's growth and change was very well written and his relationship with Komugi was always interesting to see evolve. Props to Togashi for making a villain who I actually cared about.

Still, there have been plenty of flaws in the second half, too. For example, I have been disappointed in how most fights no longer revolve around the basic nen abilities. I get the importance of making new interesting powers, but almost no fights involved what the training in the Greed Island taught. Melee combat involving the shrouding of the correct percentage of aura around your body was one of the only good things to come out of GI and it feels like it's been replaced by more flashy attacks.
Also, I disliked how as soon as the mission started, some of the gravity and tension of the situation they found themselves in was lost. They were risking their lives to save 5 million people and yet, almost no one followed the plan they devised. Knuckle risked his life just for getting revenge for Shoot when he himself admitted it was a silly reason and Killua just went up against Youpi and showed him his abilities to do what? Release some steam?

To summarise, I find the chimera ant arc an improvement over Greed Island and generally very enjoyable, but it could have been so much better if some of the aforementioned flaws would have been rectified.

5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Basically this, it truly felt like the author was having some sort of identity crisis and exactly like Yu Yu Hakusho he was getting tired by his own series.

Thinking back on it maybe its not as polarizing as i first thought it was,but having to sit trough a weekly basis it felt extremely dull and unengaging...

Since I marathoned it I didn't mind the slow pacing as much as others but sometimes the narration & slow motion were unbearable. Some things could've been done better but it's still my favorite 2nd arc of HxH.

i think it couldve been done better.
The pacing in the ant arc was terribly slow. In like 10 episodes, 30 seconds of real time had passes. thats rediculous.

Also, i think the fight between youpi, knuckle and shoot shouldve been a lot more epic.
the fight between netero and the king was alright, but also couldve used a touch more epicness.

It's not my favourite arc, but it's still really good and unique. It's more dramatic than the other arcs and I guess HxH was in need of drama, since it barely had any in the arcs previous to it, compared to the Big 3 which had drama all the time. I understand that it's the most important arc in the series so far, since it's a fight for (the survival of) humanity, and explores themes like identity, what it means to be human, etc. Even though the narration during the palace invasion added depth to what was going on, it was pretty irritating and the arc overall has a low rewatch value for me. However, it has my favourite episode in all of anime in it (based episode 131), so I can't hate it.

It had a good start, but then it got really slow, but then it went back to the real action.
