because it's a waste of resources that could be used better elsewhere. recap movies are the last thing the anime industry needs.

For fucks sake, not another one. Spend your production money on something else worthwhile.

HAH! it bothers you that these idiots are "wasting resources"??? oh come now. if nobody cares to see it, then it's their fault. they deserve the loss. gotta learn from your mistakes right?

my biggest gripe is why they "think" people are going to want to see it. i've only seen the first 2 eps of the series so far and it's not really all that enticing >_>

Really? They make quite a bit of money compared to the work put into the material. After all, they've already animated it, what's wrong with getting the most out of it?

It's not like this is the first recap movie made of a series. It's becoming an all too common trend nowadays. I'd rather see the resources put towards something new rather than trying to rely on something they've already created.
And I agree with you, though not for this series alone (I haven't seen it yet), but recaps in general are boring and the same effect can be achieved either rewatching the series or skipping through parts to jog your memory (since is that not the aim of recaps in the first place?).

Hmm good point, I didn't think of it like that. Still it is time consuming, and when the series has only just started airing how is there a guaranteed success of the recap? A new show > recaps anyway (I'm ignoring the fact that recent series have been generally shit when I say that).

Ningen Shikkaku will just be of 4 episodes i.e 20x4=80min. Why the hell do they wanna churn out a movie outta of it 80mins worth of anime?

Generally "director's cut" implies there's extra material added back into the movie that had to be cut for various reasons. Considering the subject matter from just the first episode of this arc, I'd say it's safe to assume a fair bit didn't make it to the TV cut.

Eh.. recap movies. They only exist to play more money game with existing fan bases. Nothing more than that.

and, announcing recap for the series that JUST started airing is stupidest thing ever. Because now, we have two choices; DROP THIS ANIME AND WATCH THAT FREAKIN RECAP INSTEAD, JUST WATCH ANIME AND DROP THAT FREAKIN RECAP.

So, since it is announced right now, that only purpose of recap is now gone; fucking stupid.

(This whole this is IMO...>_>)

What wrong with recap movie eh ?
The developer just want more audience watch their show. Only Broadcasting on TV is not enough these days....
You can see how low rating on japan for TV Anime series.

So, Recap movie = more audience from many levels audience.

If you don't like it, just not bother with it...

For myself, this is a good news. Aoi Bungaku itself from the start it more suited to be Movie, not became TV series like now.

It's not like they use much resources re-editing these.

And Recap Movies are quite a old trend. Do You Remember Love?...

...and Gundam 0079 ones are classics and good options for lazy/with_little_time people.

Though they would waste some time re-editing them. And it's not that recaps are a new thing, but they're becoming waaay more popular as of late. Like every season there's at least two.

On a different note I was talking to someone who has seen DYRL and they said it was kind of an alternate re-telling of SDF Macross.

I'm thinking the same thing. They'll probably add extra material that was not included in the four episodes seeing as they cut off quite a bit from the source material. The movie version will be a little different in that sense. Also, they are only recapping Ningen Shikkaku, not the other stories in Aoi Bungaku. So, I still think it's a good thing. As a fan of the novel, I will watch it. Guess I'll probably be one of the rare few to. :P

And Shogun Assassin was just a re-editing of the original Lone Wolf and Cub movies...not anime, but badass....
Is there another word for synonym?

Why even bother? Seriously. A movie? OK. A recap movie? NO WAY.
For the love of God, Japan, stop the freakin' recaps!

They're annoying as hell. You know what happened, and if you want to see it again there's the option of re-watching. No need for recaps imo. If producers want money that badly; start animating another series.

Very interested in this
I feel like the series would be better told as a live-action rather than an anime. Only thing that worries me is how it'll be told.

I think I'd rather like a recap movie of Ningen Shikkaku. I enjoyed that one and Run Melos was really good too.

Both MS Gundam and Macross: Do you Remember Love have some major differences from the TV anime. Don't forget the Zeta Gundam movies. These are in the minority since all of those were actually decent, but sadly most recaps are filled with massive fail which explains the hate, I never seen a recap that was made after 1999 that was any good (save for Zeta Gundam A New Translation).
