Up until recently, you wouldn't get me to watch yaoi even if you paid me. That being said, it's not like I'm homophobic or anything, and having a bunch of fujoshi friends has at least helped me pick up on ship-bait in shows. I simply had no interest in a genre that catered mostly to those of a different gender/sexuality than me.
But a few days ago, a vlogger I follow said he'd been enjoying "Love Stage" despite it being a yaoi. Since his words hold weight with me, I thought I'd give it a shot as well. To my surprise, it was actually pretty enjoyable. Now I'm curious; any other straight guys ever see any yaoi they enjoyed(or at least didn't repulse them completely)?

I honestly can't enjoy Yaoi's at all. It's not like i'm homophobic or anything, it's just that I'd rather not see two guys kiss each other or fall in love to the point where they're willing to do sensual shit with one another. In the end of the day Okabe is poking in my head saying "But he's a guy" and ruining everything for me.

Nope, can't say that I have.

Closest thing was a trap comedy manga which is kinda not but really totally different.

To be fair, LS!! is pretty tame and has appealing aesthetics with the visuals. I consider kissing and implied sex to be shounen-ai, if you were talking about true yaoi (explicit is key), it's full blown sex scenes (pick up a Sakira volume and read away, for example). I guess I don't understand the taboo with it... No one bats an eye at a straight girl for watching yuri, but it's "weird" if it's the other way around.

There haven't been any explicit yaoi scenes in Love Stage!! till now. You're probably enjoying the comedy part of it, which I'm sure many people would enjoy.

I watch yaoi as long as one of the characters look like trap and have feminine features.

Love Stage!! and Himegoto are my favorite non-action anime in this season. I even think the traps in Himegoto look hotter than the females, and I'm a straight guy.

Doesn't really bother me. Just the same kind of thing but with two males rather than the female and male. I'm not going to miss out on a potentially good anime simply because of that.

As long as they're traps, I'm fine with it. Hell, there's even one character that I'm really fond of (a trap, yes):

I'm not a faggot and I read Love Stage. It's not smut, so it isn't just about guys sucking dick and playing with each others bootyhole. It just feels like a normal romcom, except with two guys. The H scenes it does have are pretty tame. And Izumi looks like a cute bitch with a flat chest. So yeah, nothing weird about a straight dude enjoying Love Stage.

Would not do it.I don't care if other people do it.Not a homophobe though, gay is ok as long as nobody is seducing me.

I think males have the same aversion to gays as females have to unattractive men.I think it is the same feeling at least. However they have it to all men.
Basically they don't want their anus penetrated by a penis.Just as women don't want to be penetrated by unatractive men.It is for us men probably the only bit of 'bodily sanctity' we care about. The penis is very unclean.

Also in my theory women don't have that aversion to other women because women don't have anything to insert into them.Sure there are fingers and toys...But toys and fingers don't ejaculate.Sure a vagina does sweat a lot but there is no sperm in it.The whole thing is a lot cleaner.

It's okay folks. If you're a straight guy (or lesbian) and you're watching yaoi for whatever reason, most anime guys look like chicks anyway so it doesn't take alot to imagine it's two chicks doing it.

On a side note, since Bishies typically who look like women. Are you ladies sure you aren't lying to yourselves a bit? It's okay, you can tell me

Can you imagine if gay people were as shallow, entitled, immature, and bratty as you people?

"WAIT. This show has STRAIGHT PEOPLE IN IT??? EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW"

If having homosexual characters bothers you, you are homophobic. It's not a hard concept. The idea that you have to be the same sexuality as the relationship being presented and developed in order to enjoy it is beyond ludicrous. Unless of course you're some sexual weirdo who is only capable of enjoying things that you can masturbate to.

Yes I did, but if you read my sig, you'll know that when I tried to look up a new yuri hentai I ended up right here, then I revived my thoughts of getting back on the site. Boom.

I don't see how could I enjoy watching a man have fun with a man.

You are aware of the fact that yaoi was intended for a straight readership, right ?

It's created by heterosexual female mangaka, with other heterosexual women in mind. Love stage, as far as I'm aware, is no exception.

Basically, what you're telling us, is that you enjoy watching a show staring a guy and another character that's supposedly a guy but dresses, behaves and looks exactly like a girl. You don't say.

Gay men, in case you didn't realize by now, aren't generally interested in that type of entertainment. In fact, you're part of the demographic targeted by the show.

That being said, we're happy to learn that you're straight.

Nice Sarcasm!. I'm aware that straight people read yaoi, however, as you said, they're usually female, hence why I said "different gender/sexuality". Since its made for straight girls, like you say, I'm actually not part of the target demographic, hence my reasoning behind my post.

You make some good points. However, I disagree in a few areas. Escapism is many people's reason for watching shows. thus, i can somewhat understand why some people wouldn't want a fantasy that doesn't match their sexuality.

Yaoi=hardcore gay porn. So no way.

The non-pornographic variety, shounen-ai, doesn't usually interest me either, unless it's combined with some other genre I like such as science fiction. No. 6 for instance I completed, but not because of the gay couple, but rather because the sci-fi plot was interesting.

Makes sense, but some gays may feel the same way about shows with straight protagonists. It is not about being homophobic, it is about remaining who you are. No matter how you look at it, straight people and gay people are different. It is not a bad thing or a good thing, it is just a difference. If gay people do not want to watch shows with straight relationships and straight people do not want to watch shows with gay relationships, it is not being homophobic or hating. It is simply sticking to your interests. I do realize the shallowness of some straight males (and some females), but not all straight people are homophobic because they do not enjoy homosexual shows. Just the same as not all gay people are shallow for not enjoying heterosexual shows.

Really ?

Many males in these yaoi are traps who look, behave and speak like females.

In Himegoto, I find the traps cute and attractive because they have cute face, sexy legs, hairless sexy white skin. These are all feminine features. Only difference between these cute traps and females is that they have something between their legs

So, how can you call someone isn't straight for watching this ? I'm 100% straight because I find feminine features attractive and masculine features repulsive.

You might be right if someone watching a yaoi with two real men. Just imagine two people like Guts (from berserk) having a love relation. Thats disgusting. I don't watch something like that.

Any honest straight person will find this guy (from Baka no Test anime) attractive, but some will not admit it

ITT: People looking for others to validate their opinion.

Putting oneself aside and examining something with a solely critical lens is a rare phenomenon among the casual audience. With the prevalence of self-insert characters, especially in Japanese manga and its adaptations, anime connoisseurs are particularly poorly equipped to do so.

For most, this means being open to the ideas presented in a medium. If one can't find oneself acting similarly in reaction to a situation portrayed, one's ego begins rubbing against the grain of the content and the experience becomes displeasing.

That being said, the majority of an audience consuming media addressing a particular subject can safely be assumed to find some agreeable element in it. They are essentially biased. Asking one to completely forego this bias and suddenly understand another point of view is unreasonable, even for professional critics.
Furthermore and for this reason, labeling them as hateful or unreasonable is completely absurd. They may or may not come to understand your point of view in the future, and they also may continue to find the choices in question inappropriate for themselves.
The only person one can punish for their thoughts is oneself.

TL;DR: One should never think of oneself as a victim.

Wrong.

"Shounen-ai" isn't an actual genre. And yaoi is simply boys' love, romantic or sexual.

First of all: STOP CONFUSING SHOUNEN AI WITH YAOI.

Second thing; if an anime or manga involves two guys being in love with each other I automatically drop it. Nothing against gays whatsoever, but I just cannot enjoy it when two males lick each other's face or just acting all lovely-dovely.

Last but not least; you should just watch the stuff you want. It's your life after all.

You can watch anything you like, nobody dictates you what you need to watch.
Having said that, I wish we would get actual good stories about male homosexuals in anime - there are plenty of yuri works that have some depth, but I haven't come across many yaoi works. Something like Brokeback Mountain would be cool.

I like how some users on here are saying it's not really gay or anything it's just two guys interacting, blah blah blah, You may try to convince yourself that you're not gay, but if a guy watches or read yao, then these are the options:

1. You're gay but you don't realize it.

2. You're just trying to convince yourself that you're not gay.

3. Your probably Bi.

4 You can be 99% straight even have a girlfriend, but if you watch/read yaoi then your still gay/bi.

Btw I'm not homophobic, but it's just retarded to see people trying to convnice them self and others that watching/reading two boys having romantic interest in each other, is not gay at all.

This is funny because when it comes to shounen ai/yaoi, many people will refuse to watch it because "ewwww no I'm too straight for this shit", but when it comes to things like lolicon hentai they're all like "but but it's fiction" and suddenly their likes don't translate into anime.

A lot of straight women (myself included) are perfectly fine with watching/reading yuri, from what I can tell. And even ecchi/fanservice shows that cater to men are watchable as long as they have a plot besides the boobs.

Honestly, I think it's just because women are a lot more comfortable about their sexuality compared to straight men. And the fact that a lot of yaoi is poorly written so there's not much of a story aside from the H-scenes.

But if it's simply the fact that there's two guys in a relationship that prevents you from reading/watching series that actually have a decent plot, then you probably need to get over yourselves. Human sexuality doesn't just adhere to the extremes of straight, gay, and bisexual. In reality, most people are a little in between on the spectrum and that's perfectly natural.
