| Robotech is totally different from Macross and is unrelated to it. It's its own story pasted from 3 different series mentioned above to fit American programming schedules of having an episode a day rather than an episode a week. Just watch each show separately. I remember hearing the Robotech dub and it was pretty bad. |
| Personally I think most of the Macross series is disappointing aside from the original and Macross Plus, which are amazing. Which is also why despite that I know the purists will get their panties in a bunch when I say this, I would actually recommend the Robotech version over the original as well. I find its musical score more classic. The story alterations are actually better than the direction Macross 7 veers off to as well, though the tradeoff is Minmei's singing performances are not as good (but let's keep it real here, the awesome parts of Macross are the epic space battles and alien interactions anyway, not this kawaii shit that Frontier eventually divulged into). Also, Robotech's plot is near-identical to the original Macross anyway aside from mostly minor alterations towards the end to set up the next saga; you can actually watch Robotech and go straight into Macross Plus without losing track of what is going on, even though it's not technically canon to the Robotech universe. So personally, my rec is Robotech > Macross Plus > skip the rest. Otherwise you can watch it in the order skudoops showed if you want to follow the original series all the way through. skudoops said: Macross and robotech are two different shows. Otherwise the battle with the grand cannon and Zentradi warfleet would have been horribly butchered and made no sense. It's all still there; they just composed different music for it. |

| Watch all of it, really, they're all pretty good. The original series are great, and Do You Remember Love? movie is the best of them all. But even the infamous macross 7 is not bad at all and has really kickass songs, I listen to them on daily basis. |

You don't need previous knowledge to enjoy it, but I would highly recommend watching the Macross saga of Robotech or Macross DYRL because they are the best of Macross anyway. |
