I watched this on syfy last night hoping it would be monster, but I saw this and was intrigued. It sucked, but I was hoping that syfy had to cut it down for time. Unfortunately, it didn't, so I declare for myself that it sucked. If they had made another one, I would have posted differently. |

Do we need to watch this before "Otogizoushi" or it's better to start with the series? |

loved what they were trying to do with the art but the story was frustrating to say the least, the collection of events barely even constitute a story |

I would say that the anime was okay. It wasnt boring but at the same time it would have been better to know the underling historical facts about the time that the anime takes place. The art style was interesting nevertheless. |

I did not mind the 3D CGI, as it worked well for this OVA. However, I wish I could say the same regarding the storytelling. Whilst it was coherent all the way through, the pacing could have been a lot better and any more context for their world as well as the relationship between various minor characters would have been greatly appreciated. |

Am I the only one who thought that the colour was too pale? Am I the only one who thought that the action was hard to follow? But yea, the story was rather fragmented, I kind of got the whole picture, but feel like I've been left out on something. I don't like the fact that they made Kintoki a girl tho, was there a point? |

My only problem is that Did Raiko and Kintoki live after that?? What about Ohni Hime, did Kintoki kill her??? My rating is based on how it ended, to me it was not bad and the animation was good but I did not know even to this now why Kintoki is called this Kaidomaru. 6/10. |

The visuals were ok but sometimes the switching art style and the super washed out look started to grate on me. But the story was kinda of incompressible and times and the pacing can just make it boring at times |

Overall, watch for the experimental art style; the choice for pale colors relate to the art style of the Heian period, and the cgi backgrounds were used subtly for the time it was made. If you care about dubs, Veronica Taylor is Kintoki and Dan Green is Sadamitsu. Corinne Orr (Trixie from Speed Racer) was the princess...! Whut. It really needed 20 more minutes for the story. It's based on Japanese folklore of Kintaro who is based on a real life figure named Sakata Kintoki. This OVA is more like a realistic portrayal with some changes (Kintoki being a tomboy instead of a boy) to make it interesting to those familiar with it in Japan. That's the downside and why it has an average rating: you have to do the research. ... Imagine if you showed someone a realistic short movie about Red Riding Hood but they don't know the fairy tale. Little girl goes to grandmother's house in the midst of her murder from a strange man, then another guy hunts the murderer down. Grandmother might be dead or alive but we don't know for sure, and it ends with little girl alone crying... Oh, and the little girl is actually a little boy. Yeah, that's the feel. |
