I really enjoyed it so far, episode 0 as well. The fight scene was pretty epic and I can see why it's adult rated now. But seeing the bodys being sliced was pretty satisfying to see.
@uselessDM i did NOT expect this anime to have that much blood in the first, damn, episode.

Putting that 18+ label to good use. Sometimes I think they waste that rating by not really going all out, but they certainly did here.

Rare for there to be a ep0 these days but it sure provided a solid foundation for the first ep. Pain is a great way to tell whether you're dreaming or not. The world around him sure has changed a lot. But have to say countries no longer being a thing sure is new. Still they sure regressed quite a bit socially and tech wise. Guess no matter where you are there's always bad apples. Yugure's entry sure was impactful. In a battle between a beam cannon and a minigun there can only be one winner. Overall the combo of the prologue and ep1 sure combined to create one hell of an opening for the series.

@phantomfandom Yes, in a post-apocalyptic world, polygamy would be ideal for human survival, but this can only be done if there is one male and several females or one female and several males to maintain the lineage, but in the anime it is not like that, that is, unless in this world it is possible for people of the same sex to generate offspring, this polygamy is extremely dysfunctional and not at all effective, and I conclude that this was only added to the plot to please Westerners.

We don't know the rules of this so you are just making assumptions that serve your point so far based on our own society. The easiest argument against that a connection with only women being problematic for this society is the fact that the OWEL organisation seems to run an extremely tight ship, so d you think they would let that happen if it wouldn't serve them in some way?

I think it's likely that the population numbers are controlled anyway, overpopulation can be just as problematic as the other way around if you don't have the ressources.

Of course I'm making assumptions of my own, but all I want to show is that if you get away fron the whole woke thing it'a not difficult to find alternative explanations.
@uselessDM Your point is valid, but the anime has already made it clear in this episode that its narrative will not be elaborate enough to override these Western dogmas and show how this world works from the current social, economic, population and ethical perspective.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the director is the author and he's Japanese, so I wonder if this is just a resource to gain the sympathy of Westerners or simply a part of something that will be addressed at the end of the anime. Remembering that the anime didn't mention the "marriage" of those people as something sexual, but rather as a "family," at least that was the impression I had, but one case doesn't cancel out the other.

Thanks for the comment, it's always great to discuss with people who know how to dialogue.

This looks promising, but have to see where it goes and how romance is handled.
I hope Yuugare has Towa's mind but I think she doesn't and that is Towa's ai assistent or some shit. That will depressing.

This Elshee thing would be very handy for lots of harem anime mc but not Rentaro though.

They spent quite a bit of time laying out how it works, so I'm sure it will be relevant to the plot somehow. In a sense it's the only thing we really know about the society at this point.

I just don't really buy the argument that this is done to score browny points with a western audience, since even in the west marriage being open for same sex couples is a controversial topic to at least some degree, let alone things like polygamy which we basically see here. Unless it's done to create bit of controversy, but that goes against the trying to please the west argument, unless you want to argue they try to play both sides somehow, but that just seems so needlessly contrived for minimal gain I can't really imagine it either.

I wonder how japanese people see this, as I can't claim to be a great expert on japanese society, but from all I do know they seem to still be very traditional in terms of marriage and family, so this must be seem strange to a japanese audience for sure. And the rest of the society seems very traditional as well in terms of how everything works and could be western or japanese in my opinion, considering the buildings they construct seem to look more medieval or at least some sort of old european style than japanese or asian in general. Although it seems hard to pin down exactly what they look like. Also the church (or whatever it would be called) looks very christian as well in terms of architecture and with the stain glass window. I mean writing this the argument that this is meant to adress western audiences in some way almost starts to make sense again I think.

I think it’s mainly to show humanity’s development, the first thing I thought of was the whole “new marriage” system, is to showcase how humanity evolved while Akira was gone.

I don’t think it was made to appeal to westerners, because in most western countries poly relationships are still frowned apon.

Maybe could be the start of a poly relationship between Yugure and Towasa?

For me an interesting question is whether this system is something that is quite old even in this society, as in something that might have existed even before this war or whatever happened broke out for example or whether it was something that was a result of a new society forming after the event. Maybe the idea of traditional marriage got lost, but people still felt like they wanted to formalise their relationships and it seemed natural to include more than two people in this system.

But from a story perspective I feel like it's happening because it serves OWEL in some way, especially since there seems to be a least theoretical limit to how many people you can include.

If I had to bet I would say she was programmed to be "attracted" to him for some reason by Towa. Or it's her mind in this android even. Something along those lines.

@uselessDM The nod to Western audiences I'm referring to is their openness to same-sex relationships among others, not specifically polygamy. As I've already said in another comment, polygamy makes perfect sense in an apocalypse.

One positive point I can highlight is the fact that the organization's soldiers didn't massacre the villagers for their customs. If this were a Western work, there would be a scene of evil and prejudiced soldiers killing the poor oppressed minorities, although I don't doubt that a scene on the same level will happen in the future, given the caricatured villain we had in episode 1.

I hadn't even noticed the church; it really does look Western, but I don't think this is a nod to Western audiences, especially since I didn't even notice that small detail.

Aside from the somewhat crappy art quality and the not-sticking music, the plot was great esp after that ep0 intro (a must watch btw), I think this is a solid 8/10 for me. I mean, maybe just a tiny bit too much mecha too quickly towards the end of the ep but who knows maybe that is the building block for the rest of the eps to come... looking forward to see more, good potential for sure, in terms of action packed with solid romance

main char finds unnatural (appeal to nature fallacy) for many different people to get married, but its ok for him to want to marry his own sister (adoption makes no difference, they are brothers not related by blood). Hope his flawed thinking gets addressed, and that the "bad guys" are not so goofy as in this episode. if not, this is not going to be good...

Cinema
PA works dropping another potentially great work with his android saga.
Animation is 10/10 chefs kiss and hope it stays consistent with art style as well.

There are still quite the interesting stuff especially with present world building in the apocalyptic world & how humanity has developed. Especially with marriage & relationships. That is gonna be quite the topic of discussion.

Still enjoyed the 1st episode and looking forward to the next one.

What a way to start an anime.

For starters, I think it's fundamental to say that watching Episode 0 prior to this one is fundamental, since that prologue explores Akira's relationship with Towasa, which was barely touched on in this episode, which could take away from some scenes, like the one where Akira cries during the night remembering his girlfriend. It also gives a lot more context from where Akira comes from, since he came from a futuristic scene, and know he's in a much less futuristic setting.

I'm really curious to see what this OWEL coorperation is, because they certainly are shady. The fact that Vogt snitched his family... Wow, he really didn't think it would give problems to the rest of the family? What was he thinking? Not sure if we are going to see him after this episode though.
Akira was really well received by Weir, Idhi and the rest of the family though. At least he had some time to assimilate everything that was happening, before everything happened, and was starting to get treated as an object by OWEL.

Also, I'm curious about the importance of the "marriage" (ehlsea) thing, since they introduced that so early. Maybe the idea of ehlsea was what Yuugure had in mind when she asked Akira to marry her at the end of the episode.

And then Yuugure makes an appearance, and I have to say, what an appearance. The fighting animation was really good, and the battle felt great! P.A. Works is doing an amazing job at producing this anime, it looks really good! Considering what we know from Episode 0, I'm really curious to see if Towasa really was the one that created Yuugure, considering that she was studying how to make robots like her.

We got to see the opening at the end. The song is good I think, nothing super outstanding though, but it might grow on me. However I found the animation of the opening a bit weird, considering the music it has, but ok.

I'm really curious to see how P.A. Works will develop this one, but it has a lot of potential with this plot! It seems romance it's going to be a big part of this, and you know you can trust P.A. Works with their original romance works. I hope they deliver with the Sci-fi aspect too, since it seems they are going to reflect about some topics like A.I., and honestly somethings started reminding me a bit of some thematics from Serial Experiments Lain.
It's true that P.A. Works has some anime that had really interesting settings, and then the anime wasn't able to hold up to that (looking at you Fairy Gone), but this anime is certainly walking into the right direction so far.
Really excited for the next episode!

Towa no Yuugure or Dusk Beyond the End of the World Interesting concept. Investing so hard. It seems like jobless reincarnation but in the future. Insane animation and music; enjoyed this first episode very much. Definitely starting off very hot. Might be in the top 10 first episodes of all time. I love the artstyle so much. The animation is giving me great pretender vibes, and this show is awesome so far. I wish they kept the sci-fi futuristic world for longer; this show is going to be the show of the season. BELIEVE IT.

That’s cool the Japanese name for this anime is Towa no Yuugure. Both names of each girl. Yuugure really is just straight up a blonde Towa 🤣 she kicked ass. That marriage proposal at the end! I knew it! 👀🤣 She’s a blonde Android like Android 18! Go for it Akira!

My 13th Fall 2025 anime! I am hopping on a little late with this one too 😅 initially didn’t think it was good, but after watching that confession scene on Twitter, I am totally hooked now! 🙌🏻

Also holy crap what a top tier Seiyuu cast 🤣 Yui Ishikawa, Umeda Shuuichiro, Ai Kayano, and Tomita Miyu! 🙌🏻 They’re all using different voices compared to their signature voices I know, but still!

so we had step siblings romance in episode 0, now we are introduced to new marriage system (idk but it feels like authors had some weird dreams they tried to apply in here), also some crazy villain who have no personality and is just there to kill everyone (actually hes here only for a main character to make some "badass" appearance, getting her gun out of nowhere and its called science i guess)
i was quite excited for this series because of artstyle and the "how would the world look like after it was destroyed" kind of vibe, but it seems like another slop just arrived.

Including ep 0's knowledge and this ep with a bit of the opening, I have a feeling that all androids we're going to encounter are all based on Towa, based on hair styles. They all could be running on the logic of finding Akira as their core function, but have different functions with them.

my 2 cents and best guess.
