Are you ashamed of liking anime? (and maybe manga?)

Ashamed, what does that mean? My parents kept telling me to grow up or some other shit like that, but I just ignored them. Now, they ignore my anime watching preferences. My friends are almost all anime watchers and even the ones who don't watch know enough to respect my opinions, as I do theirs. If you can't be proud of something you love, then you don't love it at all.

Yes. I'm ashamed.

Not of myself, but of the sheer number of those missing out on such a fantastic mode of enjoyment. Of such poor souls that choose to stay uninitiated. Of such ignoramuses that actually look down on it. Of such fucking neanderthalic stereotypes that has forever oppressed this medium's explosive potential by perpetuating it as nothing more than a childish and embarrassing niche.

^What is said above. Quite the truth you speak sir.

For certain anime genres, I feel like it's a phase that I'm going to go through. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop or be ashamed of anime as a whole when I grow up.

People watch 60s cartoons too, but some people think you have to watch things that your age group is watching, I personally think if its a anime about counting mabye, but otherwise, have fun.

And I think the ones that watch anime but ashames of calling themselves anime fans are worse than Ouma Shu, enough said

Truth.
I should've added one more to the list: "Of so-called anime fans that are actually ashamed of it, ashamed of loving what they love, and thus allowing that ugly perpetuation to ferment."

Sorta, if someone asks me about I'd say, "yeah, I watch some" but, I will not go up to someone in public and ask if they like anime.

Nothing to really be ashamed of, it's just anime. I just dislike those who act with a condescending behavior towards people who like anime. As if anime is suited for kids.

Nah I'm not ashamed but I don't just go up to people and tell them I watch anime. If they ask then I'd say yes though.

I don't really feel ashamed at all. If people are to ignorant to think about it as some child's cartoon, they have never really watched it so who are they to judge. You shouldn't feel ashamed with something you enjoy, doesn't it just make you self-concious while your watching then...

Why should I be ashamed of watching anime?

Nope, I don't see any reason to be ashamed at all. Everyone that knows me in the least knows I like anime and I collect figures. Why feel awful about my biggest hobby that makes me the happiest? No point.

I'm not ashamed of it, per se, but I hate it when people who don't know much about anime find out I like anime because they get the wrong impression since most people in that category seem to think anime is either porn or for kids (or both!). So I usually am pretty quiet about my hobby. I'm not too outgoing about any of my hobbies though, so it's not like it makes much of a difference.

This is an anime forum where the active members share their interests for anime. It was almost meaningless to ask such a thing. The consensus is so clear-cut you could see it from a mile away.

I laughed at someone for not knowing what manga was.. I was the one brought to attention. Then I realized shame has nothing to do with it. So no lol

I guess so? I feel ashamed that I haven't done more with my life- not that watching anime has been a waste, but it's precisely that- I don't feel that sitting around and watching tv is a waste, and I enjoy it far more than I should.

I feel especially ashamed for liking Bleach and Naruto. I'm not a fujoshi and I don't have limited tastes, I have real reasons (other than nostalgia) for liking them and it's people that lump us and the I BREATHE PURE BISHIE YAOI FIGHTS together that make me feel ashamed.

^I'm with einaaarr.

There are some friends that I can be comfortable watching it with. However, around family and most other people, I feel too odd about it.

Not all I don't give a damn what people think. Not that anyone would say anything to me anyways. If they did I would just put them in there place,

Tbh family and friends both know I'm into anime/ manga...and none of them give a s* either really.

As long as it doesn't interfere with your "life" as far as school, sports, etc, I think there's nothing to be ashamed about. I mean, I'm 6'2, a varsity football, track and baseball player, as well as an MMA fighter, and I watch anime. On the other hand, many people I know are extremely judgmental, and would bully most people to no end about it. For that reason, I don't exactly wear anime shirts or boxers for all to see, but I'm not ashamed of being an anime fan either.

You have a weak mind if you're ashamed of what you like to do. You need to stand behind yourself and be proud of what makes you who you are, and that includes anime.

If you're unable to do that, you're going to have serious problems in your life.

well yeah, its because Anime is not well known genre in my country and most people are comparing it to fairy tales, saying its for kids and things like that ... (well if someone gets to know I am watching and tell me its for kids, Ill show him some nice and cold bloody scene probably ^^ )

I've got a bad habit of clicking spoilers too fast, then regret it ..
