I do all of the above, but only on occasion.

I don't spend money on anime/manga/merch willy-nilly. If there's a series that I love that's also available in the U.S., I'll buy the DVDs/manga volumes for it to show that I want to see more things relating to this release licensed and brought to American shores. I also haven't been buying a lot of merchandise as of late, but wheatever catches my eye at a con, I'll buy.

As for free-streaming, I'm proud to say that all of my summer anime watching has been done on FUNimation's website (minus Highschool of the Dead).

I never bought an anime DVD since the very few anime that I would consider worthy of owning on DVD aren't available in my country, at least I've nevr found them.

Kinda the same thing with Manga but I've bought Monster volumes and intend to continue doing so.

Usually I buy the manga, posters [I have two B★RS posters up], and DVDs if I really like the anime/manga. I don't have alot of money, but when I do, I will support anime and manga. For example, I am watching Elfen Lied and Clannad right now, and if I feel they are worth purchasing and I will rewatch them, then so be it, I will.

Yes, I believe in supporting our industry very much! I buy manga and anime DVDs quite often. Though with anime, I usually try to sample different series on the net to see if I like them enough to buy the DVD releases. Since I use to buy anime just cold turkey in the past, and many times wouldn't watch them after one sitting. I rarely ever watch licensed anime, unless it comes out on TV or ON DEMAND.

I support the industry to the best of my ability, but I don't get a lot of money, so it's limited. I mostly buy my manga volumes/light novels/magazines instead of reading them online. I have a few t-shirts, keychains, a wall scroll, and a few other things, but that's pretty much it.

Mostly movies or short series though, the box sets are pretty expensive.
A big plus for me when buying DVDs are the neat collectibles that some DVDs have, such as lithos or postcards.

Manga is currently the only anime related medium I actually purchase, and only in Taiwan, since it's so cheap.

I have brought a few anime films in the past and I usually read my manga in book form or read online then buy the actual copy if I really like it.

If I have enough money at conventions I like to collect figurines and I have brought a couple of posters from my first con.

That's the only "anime merch" that is available to me.

I'd totally buy DVDs if the companies over here actually tried to bring up other anime rather than your usual Naruto/Bleach/One Piece crap stuff. :P

(and importing is a big "no, thanks". It'd be quite expensive).

I buy manga every once in a while, though most of it is Japanese-language. There aren't a lot of options for buying English subtitled legit anime DVDs in Korea (most of them are bootlegs, and who wants to pay for a bootleg). I do buy stuff from rightstuf occasionally and ship it to America, but without a credit card it's a little difficult.

Unfortunately no, but if I were to buy anything it would be manga, but not for $10, I don't think it's fair to pay 3 and 4 times the price of what it costs in Japan.

There is no way I could build up a collection by buying manga at $10 and up for each volume.

Oh well, the entertainment industry has succeeded into brainwashing people to believe they have some moral obligation to pay them for products they can get for free while they themselves spend tonnes on new DRM technology that causes nothing but annoyance to the consumer for their own profits.

I think it has more to do with idiots actually thinking the manga/anime industry is dying. Or maybe the piraters are not as vocal as they use to be and still lurk the site or just use their lists.

Enough new anime production studies and publishing companies are formed, the industry is hardly dying. Yeah, people seem to download a lot more media than before, but in the end, they buy the same amount, that's the interesting part. Downloading in the end is more a competitor with radio and TV than with actually buying stuff.

Another thing is that I few the majority of publishing companies and studies as simply fundamentally evil and do not wish to support them, perhaps I wish to support artists, but you don't support artists really by buying. In a lot of cases artists nowadays don't even get royalty sharing but a fixed pay per month and don't even own the characters they created.

The stupid thing about intellectual property is that as the name suggests, it's a property, not a right, the main difference being that a right can't be sold, I can't just sell a right like a fair trial to a person who doesn't have it, sadly. Nowadays, to get your work published by a publisher, they have artists in a deadlock, they require artists to essentially sign over about all their rights to the publisher, and if they don't want to, there are enough other aspiring artists who do. This goes so far that musicians have to sign ridiculous contracts which go to the length of that the label can decide what they respond with in interviews if they want to get signed by a major label. I wouldn't be surprised if the anime industry was no different.

In the end, you don't support artists with buying, you support soulless publishing houses and continue the cycle of artists having no control over their own work anymore. If you want to support artists, I've got a great idea, why don't you just put some cash in an envelope and mail it to the artist. Ever thought of the fact that just putting 30 euro in an envelope and posting it Japan actually supports the artist a thousand times more than spending that money on a DVD boxed set?

Certain sectors of the anime industry need supporting, while others don't.
For example, I will buy tonnes of Gundam manga NOT related to Gundam 00, so that one day, producers might clue in on the fact that Gundam 00 is rather shallow and was one of the worst Gundam series ever animated.

I will buy ludicrous amounts of manga like Bakuman, D. Gray-man, and Air Gear, because in my opinion, they are far better than Naruto + Bleach. They deserve a bigger role in the industry, and that is why I absolutely refuse to spend a penny on Naruto.

My rule is to refrain from buying products that I only use once, and Naruto + Bleach certainly fit in the one-viewing only category.

Blu-rays aren't cheap but they are worth it. Unlike HD DVD, Blu-ray is a format that'll be around just as long as DVD's if not longer.
