ABSOLUTE. CAP.

CygamesPictures has delivered the best season of Umamusume yet! Starting this fall, Season 2 will feature a host of G1 races held in Japan, including the Tenno Sho and Japan Cup. Season 1 was broadcast alongside the Japanese Derby and Takarazuka Kinen, so we can expect more surprises. In summer, 2-year-olds make their "make debuts," while older horses—just like Oguri Cap when he transferred to the JRA—have their teams devising all kinds of strategies for the autumn races.

The Tenno Sho (Autumn), run on the Tokyo course, has hosted countless high-speed showdowns. The roar of the crowd in 1988, when two gray horses battled for the title of strongest, was particularly wild and electrifying. (KTV)

And what about other years? Here's a selection:

2022: The Beginning of a Legend, the Continuation of a Dream (JRA-EN) (KTV)
Equinox finished a close second in both the Satsuki Sho and the Japanese Derby. Rather than chasing the Classic Triple Crown, his team chose to face older horses for the first time.
Among his rivals were a star-studded lineup: Panthalassa, who had tied for first in the Dubai Turf; Jack d'Or, the Sapporo Kinen winner; and North Bridge, fresh off a victory in the Epsom Cup—an assembly of top front runners.
A bold front-run in the Tenno Sho (Autumn) brings back memories—whether you want to or not—of the haunting the "Sunday of Silence." Panthalassa's aggressive breakaway had spectators feeling an uneasy déjà vu.
This race, now regarded as one of the greatest of the 2020s, became a defining moment: Panthalassa carried the torch of an ongoing dream, and Equinox began writing his own legend.
This is the kind of race that lets you fully appreciate the charm of front-runners, who are often dismissed in this anime storyline.

2013: The Long-Awaited Explosion (KTV)
Just a Way, a Heart's Cry colt, was owned by Akatsuki Yamatoya—a screenwriter who also worked on the anime Gintama. The horse's name comes directly from a fictional bomb in the series: the "Justaway."
After winning the Arlington Cup as a 3-year-old, he couldn't quite seal the deal in subsequent races. As a 4-year-old, he had three straight second-place finishes leading up to the Mainichi Okan.
Race day arrived. Facing him were a formidable lineup: Gentildonna, the dominant favorite and Triple Tiara winner; Tokei Halo(not Tokai Teio), who had won the Sapporo Kinen; and Eishin Flash, the 2010 Derby champion. Just a Way went off as the 5th favorite.
But Heart's Cry progeny were said to have an edge over Deep Impact offspring—just like Heart's Cry himself once did. That rebellious bloodline pushed Just a Way to be exactly what he needed to be—nothing more, nothing less.
At the finish, the announcer shouted, “Just a Way—what DESTRUCTIVE power! He’s made it to G1 glory!

2000: O Sole Suo! (JRA-JP)
T.M. Opera O was ridden from debut by a then-young jockey, Ryuji Wada. After winning the Satsuki Sho, his inexperience began to show. Though the horse kept placing in the top three, he couldn't secure another win. Owner Masatsugu Takezono even demanded a jockey change. It never happened, and no further requests followed—but Wada only learned of this much later.
Despite that behind-the-scenes tension, Opera O began his 4-year-old season on a winning streak, claiming five straight graded races including the spring Tenno Sho and Takarazuka Kinen. He was now on the brink of an undefeated season and a clean sweep of the “older horse championship route” (G1 middle-to-long-distance races).
The once-in-a-generation opera king marched solo, intent on claiming the title of “Conqueror of the Century’s End”.

1985: The "Unbelievable" Fall of the Emperor (JRA-JP)
More than his victories, the three times he lost are what people remember.Symboli Rudolf, the Emperor was finally beaten, and the second horse to do it was Gallop Dyna. Despite his talent, Gallop Dyna had been a perennial runner-up, even in G3 races.
Give them a chance, and they’ll blossom. That’s the Northern Taste bloodline,” said Shadai Farm founder Zen’ya Yoshida, who greenlit the entry.
Even so, on race day Gallop Dyna was just the 13th favorite—barely above dead last. The whole atmosphere assumed an easy Symboli Rudolf win, with attention mostly on who’d finish second or third.
Hey, we might get 8th. That’s prize money. Wait, that’s 7th… 6th… whoa, 5th—we’re on the board. 4th—go on, GO!
Jockey Hiroyasu Nemoto’s goal had been merely to avoid coming last—but what followed was the gallop of a lifetime that flipped everything on its head.
@Ishi52 lassa's Autumn Tenno sho was even mentioned in Twin Turbo's story in the uma game, featured by Kitasan Black, and what happened after that in rl horsesracing is ABSOLUTE CINEMA

Man, Tamamo Cross entering Zone is something. Reminds me of how Kagami Taiga entering the Zone! Now I wait for Oguri Cap for entering the Zone.

What a spectacular cour 1 final episode, it's really hard to root between Tamamo Cross and Oguri Cap both are BEAST. Kudos Cygames for this epic rivalry

Now on 2nd cour Japan Cup is coming later in months, Oguri Cap's legendary journey still continues.

Anime that did not disappoint me this time either. Episode that focuses entirely on the grara, even if in the end I would have liked a little more fighting between the protagonists, but the adrenaline component is not lacking until the end. The fact of knowing in advance that there was already a sequel, perhaps took away that pinch of suspense, however I can not wait for the second season of this show.

This series has proved that when Umamusume sticks to closely to real events, it doesn’t make a whole lot of narrative sense.

No twists, Tamamo won as expected. Everything was hinting at her win so no surprise there. The zone though, what's this kuroko no basktet lol. Felt over the top like that, not a fan. Anyway Oguri's first loss but she'll comeback stronger.

Enjoyed the first cour, looking forward to second cour in fall.

I was talking about the over the top presentation of the zone like in Kuroko no Basket and not the term zone. Understand what people are saying before quoting them with dumb replies.

@MegamiRem how do you expect to portray the zone? Think about something before commenting or you will be quoted because of your dumb comments

Yeah it's definitely over the top and a nod at the gacha game. Not sure why people are giving push back about your opinion lol, that being said I'm hyped to see if/when Oguri gets an obnoxious zone moment.

Why Uma Musume must do this again (the similiar thing happened in all previous 3 seasons) ? It was enough to give win to Oguri and I would say it's easily 9/10 anime. But nope, let the most annoying girl win last race. 6/10 and lets hope Part 2 will be better.

@Elitar why are people so dumb? the results are based on real horse race in japan in 1988, what do you want them do?? make up fake results??

lmfao i watched ep13 of cinderella gray before ep12 and didnt even notice
dont think this ever happened to me before
ep12 really was extremely superficial, they summarized most things that happened in the first half of ep13, just a few extra scenes of tamamos back story were in there
8/10, sadly the first half was much better than the second
S2 is probably still ahead in my favs
Objectivity doesn't exist. Subjectivity is an excuse. Beautiful world of online discourse.

honestly I don't remember the last time I watched a sports anime this hype before, this was truly a joy to watch from start to finish! while oguri's lose feels bitter and frustrating, she still managed to push the best racer (tamamo) to her limits, and thats an achievement within itself! not to mention the second season that was announced a while ago where oguri will surely get the chance for a rematch with tamamo.

Once again here to appreciate Cygames using their infinite gacha money glitch to fund peak.

The regional focus in this series does recontextualise what we've seen in previous seasons. Some of it (especially in S1) was treating national level races pretty casually. Then you have the kind of sloppy looking trainer casually in charge of many national level horses in Team Spica. This series has seemingly more competent trainers not even eligible to train at a national level. S2 is peak because the story it had to tell was just that compelling at a baseline. But in terms of presentation and worldbuilding CygamesPictures are just on another level. There's more clarity about what they're trying to do.

Jungle Pocket vs Agnes Tachyon and Oguri Cap vs Tamamo Cross are both peak rivalries that I'm not sure previous studios would have done justice. Really looking forward to S2 of this.

I'm fine with the loss in general but I wish they structured it better. We don't really feel the sting of defeat at all the entire season even in the race Oguri came in second and she apparently lost 2 more times in regionals. Then they give a nice back story for Tamamo but cram it into the end making it obvious she's going to pull something and honestly making it feel like a sob story because it was so short. And they also super crammed in a couple lines that they have known each other in the past which pushed Tamamo to improve which should have at least been at one of the points in the race when she was talking about the pressure from Oguri behind her. It might have also felt better if Tamamo had more presence earlier on. And I really enjoyed the season overall it's just this one aspect that rubbed me the wrong way.

Not a bad watch, but nothing crazy epic, peak or whatever else you want to say about it. I’ll give it a 7/10. That was a solid race. I’m expecting Oguri to completely surpass her limits in part 2 and enter the zone herself.

I’ll wait until part 2 finishes airing completely like I did for part 1. Can’t really see myself watching this weekly.

Second cour either Oguri Cap win tamamo cross with her zone or found out she don't have talent for zone activation but win with her normal beast mode.

Steve Rogers : on your left
Tamamo : on your right

Well it's an alright spin off. It's more like precursor to a much bigger story in the next season. They barely explored any of the side characters which is such a shame. I might give lower score if not for my familiarity with the game.

Lighting skill = GG xD

Compared to the previous races, I think this was an underwhelming last (and longest) race.

Understandable that Tamamo would be the center of attention, but they focused way too much on her in this final race, which meant others were overlooked (including Oguri Cap). The only exception, apart from Tamamo, was Royal Road, which received a decent amount of attention.

I was about to give this anime 8/10, but... =/
