Definitely Censorship. Both home and foreign-born.

Shit like that Tokyo Youth Ordinance bill thoroughly fucked up my loli anime. And Japanese politicians are still looking to fuck up more. As well as westerners. Conservative Christian scum want to do everything in their power to see anything sexual censored and left-wingers want Japan to appeal more to toxic shit like fat acceptance. This is one of the reasons I’m a gatekeeper. I love annoying and embarrassing the Western moral imperialists infecting the community. The more embarrassed they are to be anime fans the more likely they are to GTFO. Anti-lolicon Crusaders and SJWs of both the West and the East can choke on a tomogachi.

I also hate censorship and i personally I don't like loli content but banning it censoring it will only lead to more things getting censored normal female characters and other things such as story line can get censorship too and biil 156 hasn't banned anything but limited the accessibility of content although one can argue it did some damage to some series and i don't want west influence anywhere near anime and manga industry

Distribution monopolies in international territories is becoming a huge problem in the industry. Crunchyroll here in the United States has been gaining way too much power after absorbing FUNimation and RightStuf leaving Viz, Netflix, Hulu, and HiDive as their only competition. And the problem is that Viz basically puts all their series on Crunchyroll anyways, Netflix is pretty hated for their distribution model, and HiDive is like very niche and is no longer going to be accessible in non-English speaking countries. Crunchyroll is literally becoming way too powerful in the industry, and with barely any meaningful competition they will stifle innovation in the distribution scene in the West. Cruncyhroll is also pretty notorious in the industry itself for rushing and underpaying its translators, refusing to credit the translators who overwork themselves for insufficient pay, and for union busting. When a greedy corporation like this gobbles up all its competition it looks pretty bleak for the distribution of anime outside of Japan for the consumer and for those who are working in the industry itself. I know some people will say "just pirate" but the average person will not pirate, and since Cruncyhroll is basically their only option, will go to them furthering their power. And Crunchyroll now owning FUNimation and RightStuf basically means if you collect physical media or merch of a bunch of anime, guess who's getting that money most likely. We need more competition in the distribution or else Crunchyroll will get more and more greedy and have no motivation to improve their shitty business practices or make pro-consumer moves.

I agree i don't like crunchyroll monopoly at all and they can force Japanese company to alter their content because they can simply say no that they will not stream that anime cause it's too problematic

Literally any company can choose not to license content they don't like.
This post is brought to you by your local transfem gamer goblin. Will not tolerate bigotry and will fight against "anti-woke" sentiment to make the anime community a safer place.

@kratos960203 Don't bother with discussing censorship with that person, they openly admitted that they think censorship is a good thing that they genuinely believe is good for anime. You're wasting your time, even if for a good purpose.

It wasnt just loli anime but anime and manga in general because it's so broad sweeping. Just to be clear who was behind that bill.

This bill didn't technically ban anything but kinda limited the reach of certain series and raised concerns of self censorship

When you cut off the means of a good portion of profit it acts like a roundabout way of banning something. Banning doesn't mean completely outlaw. They are making things 18+ that would otherwise be meant for a younger audience than that. Im unsure how true this is but i heard from something i saw Japan has an issue where sex education is very poor there so youth could certainly benefit from a good story that involves sexual matters.

belive me this bill didn't do anything and politicians + mangakas were against it that's why it was changed and it was mostly about adult content so kids won't get hold of these easily

@kratos960203 I'm most concerned with how it may have affected anime production specifically. I'm working with a gut feeling and speculation when it comes to the topic of Bill 156, but I just feel since the 2010s when it was passed certain anime featuring "taboo" sexual fetishes have drastically decreased. The last great incest anime that I recall seeing for example was Yosagu no Sora way back in 2010. The same year the bill passed. Ever since then anime with incestuous relationships or with sexy lolis are few and far between if not entirely gone.

The existence of anime like Made in Abyss and Dragon Maid contradict my fears to a degree but I still feel like there aren't as many such anime post 2010.

I know and painful aware this is because of popularity of anime industry is in self destruct mode because industry thinks they can make more money by pumping out somany shows at once and animators which are already living in so much poverty are worked to literally death and tell why you would join a industry where you have to pay to work and there is no sign of your well being and work and life balance and currently many animators are not even Japanese majority of outsourcing is done to different countries such as China, Korea , Philippines you can say to whole SEA. Japan doesn't have inbetweener animators anymore.

@kratos960203
Exactly! And your last point on the industry abandoning in-betweeners in favour of outsourcing in particular is very alarming. Outsourcing is bad at all, but neglecting your own workers back home is. From what I've seen, the results have not been the most flattering given the perceived decline in overall quality coupled with a greater adoption of formulaic storytelling. Honestly, how do you see the industry faring in the near future? Are there any hopes for improvement and the industry averting its self-destruction?

actually problem is way greater than this actual animators telling that low pay and long hours are a big problem but problems don't end there. Anime industry also having problems in getting high quality and skilled animators because no one is available to teach them and correct their mistakes nd Japan just launched a new tax invoice law in this year which will make things even worse for animators and freelancers in general. Anime industry don't have time to teach skills to the new animators and animators themselves don't want to join industry itself because how exploitative it is. Anime industry is still standing because veteran animators are still doing their jobs but they will retire in next 10 years if things don't get fixed till than. The whole industry would crash. As for fixation of problems government and production committees ain't doing anything but only focusing on the money but some people in anime industry started a initiative to which just launched this year let's see how that goes.

@LSSJ_Gaming What is worse, CR has already a huge viewer base that they can manipulate and use at anything that goes against their interests.

@kratos960203 Also, Japanese television has also its own Drama Renaissance since Summer 2023. You might find out that Japanese audiences in general are back to focus on watching new excellent dramas from some millennials & Gen Z-increasingly pushed TV companies, like TV Asahi/ABEMA and TBS (and yet, now NHK has also its own attractive drama kikaku(s)).
