2010s. K-On and CGDCT in general in the beginning, new gen shonen era starting in mid-'10s...

It's kinda easy to communicate with the other generations, since the shows are likable by many.
@KitsuFrost Do you mean an adaptation of then-new Shonen Jump hits like Kimetsu no Yaiba?

In your groupings I'm the oldest group and smallest; but it's only people who respond that thread, not necessarily the whole site. I think the site trends younger.
But I would move the "Yuri boom" to the 10s and "boom of isekai " to present 2020s. And I pray the isekai thing is over and done with before the end of the decade.

@SuperAdventure I've been chastising yuri boom since we started getting 3-4 shows every year, including 3-4 shows in this season alone this year.

90s to mid 00s, the era of Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Yuu☆Yuu☆Hakusho, Pokémon, Digimon, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and many others. Most of the anime that I first discovered as a kid were anime that first aired in Japan in the 90s, but they didn't air where I live until around the late 90s and mid 00s.

Watching anime on my old 90s TV instead of watching on my laptop/smartphone was a pretty special and interesting experience for me too. As a kid who was always told to sleep early, I remember sneakily opening the TV late at midnight to watch anime, since that’s usually around the time when good anime gets shown on Toonami and Adult Swim.

10s, though I did grow up watching anime in the 00s. Was one of those nerds who traded fansubbed .avi files with friends and watched shows in parts on YouTube.

@LoveLikeBlood Ah, avi and mp3. I never thought these terms would make me nostalgic.

I got into anime with Saturday morning cartoons in the 2000's era, back when I had no idea the difference between eastern and western animation.

Some personal favorites of mine from back then were Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragonball Z Kai, and Dinosaur King (JP) as well as MagiNation (CA) and Chaotic (US).

Being born in the late 80s the 2nd option is the one that better represents me, though I can still feel partially identified with the 1st one too; I had already been watching some 70s-80s anime series before the DBZ/Sailor Moon/Pokemon boom took the world by storm.

I started in the mid 1990s with Dragonball Z, Robotech, and some random movies on the Sci-fi channel like Iria: Zeiram the Animation and Green Legend Ran.

Yes, the 10s were a significant transition between two different generations of weebs. In SoL, shonen and many other genres.

@KitsuFrost I didn't watch any seasonal shows between 2012 and 2015, so it was a big revelation for me in 2016 to learn how many really meaningful shows came out during those years.

10s, but before the isekai boom. i would say i started watching anime somewhere around 2013-2014, the moe/cgdct craze was the main big thing, and we still had remnants of the battle shonen mania

00's. I started watching anime around 2007 or 2008 (if you don't count stuff I didn't know was anime before that, like Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!). Very little anime aired in my country before streaming services showed up, so I mostly got into it due to friends at school and online friends at that time.

I do have a soft spot for old anime though, I love the cell animation/hand drawn style of 80's and 90's anime even if the majority of those were before my time.

90's era definitively started like everyone around that period with Pokemon, DBZ and Sailor Moon just as you said. Damn I feel like a dehumanized social stats now as how scarily true that sum up of how 90's kids got into anime you did is XD.

I started watching shows like Pokemon and DBZ during the tail end of the 90s, but I didn't really get into watching anime until the 2010s, so I guess that's the group I most relate to.

Definitely part of the Generation which saw the first Airings of Japanese Productions in Europe, in the late 70s/early 80s. Unfortunately, this option is missing in the poll, so I had to go with the 80s/90s instead.

Dammit, missclicked and chose another option that the one I wanted.

Late 90s, so a mix between options 2 and 3.

Aware of anime? Watchin InuYasha on YouTube, latin american dub, three parts per episode, sometimes no op and/or ed, 240p, you know the stuff.

They used to show anime on TV when I was a kid. Watched it around 2005 - 2008 iirc. A little too late for Sailor Moon, but they'd still rerun Detective Conan, Digimon and Pokémon alongside random magical girl anime. Lots of reruns from 1999/2000s.

10s! i started watching with the original pokemon when it got added to netflix due to curiosity, and started watching whatever i could off of the platforms available to me.

i would say my definition of an essential would be something you find appealing. does this particular title have interesting character designs? does what you know of the plot interest you? i think it's really important to give it a try if it does, you never know if you'll like it until you try. i didn't think i'd be that interested in pokemon until i watched it after all!

Erm the first anime i really got into came out mostly came from the 2000s but most shows i've seen are from the 2010s so i guess i kinda "grew up" with them through that era.

My favorite decade for anime would be the 00s, there so much good that I very often enjoy go back and revisiting. But I don't mind at all watching what's currently airing, there's always some great show no matter what decade you're in!

Anime is not mainstream.

Ask 100 people to name 5 Steven Spielberg films, and then ask 100 people to name any anime director and you will see what i mean.

I would love for it to be more popular because that means more people would share my interests, but it just isn't.

Shows I consider fundamental to my peers would be the big 3 Bleach, OP, Naruto so I chose 00s even though for me personally my era was late 00s to early 10s.

My interest grew slowly since childhood as I grew up with anime before I knew it was anime, and then got interested in manga because of influence from my peers which later pushed my interest to anime even more.

I still keep up with new anime so usually just talk about the newer anime with my sister that's a decade younger than me.
