There's a few comments saying that this was the first time Ryu calls him Bell instead of Cranel-san, you'll recall she also did that when he took a tail in the neck and it looked like he died in ep 10 of this season.

I was a bit disapointed in last week's episode adaptation, but holy moly did they nail it in this one. The LN is dreadful in this chapter, and they actually adapted it properly. I'm very impressed.

Trivia : IIRC, even though the subs said floor 30, in the LN it says the this encounter happened somewhere in the deep floors. And apparently, each individual juggernaut's power level is tied to the floor they spawn at. So that one was much stronger than the one currently (still) chasing Bell and Ryu.

A truly heartbreaking and brutal episode of Ryu's past. I appreciate this season of giving more background to Ryu who hasn't really been talked about for the past 3 seasons. I thought that it was slightly strange seeing Ryu play important roles but still serve as a semi-background character/side character we don't know about until now. Getting to see more depth to Ryu's character makes me care a bit more about her and I also love the cute moment with Ryu and Bell. So far, for me at least, I care about the RyuxBell ship more than the AisxBell ship. Perhaps maybe in the next season, we will see more about Ais since it seems Bell is really going to go after her. Can't wait to see more.

Man.. It really hits different when Astrea Familia died to Juggernaut, I'm shocked how ridiculously strong it was in the past, and now it's so much stronger now!
I felt so bad to Ryu, such a tragic backstory. Jura definitely deserved that death after Ryu been through.

That post-credit was the strawberry on the cake, I wonder if Ryu gonna end up with Hestia Familia.
Such a solid episode the amount of emotions accumulated was too much for me, and this one amazes me on the amount of character development in short amount of time.
Why do we have to live in such a cruel world?

The LN’s English release mistranslated, it was in the Lower Floors. The subs said 30th floor, but Ryu only said “that floor”. I don’t know where the subs got the 30th floor from.

Yall almost made me cry at university damn.

Welp this was one hell of an emotional episode. We all knew Ryuu's familia was killed a while ago but now actually seeing how it all went down, it was really really brutal. Ryuu seeing all her friends die one by one to the juggernaut and with the sacrifices made by her 3 friends so that she could get the magic off. Also having to kill her best friend hurt her badly. Like I knew her past was tragic but damn. Ngl Ryuu getting all that revenge was really satisfying.

Back to the present. The explosion from last episode sent Ryuu and Bell to a underground passage under the coliseum. As they are walking along Ryuu on Bells back, they have a little talk about Justice. With Bell eventually saying that as she has saved him and his friends a countless amount of times, justice still remains in her. That bit at the end with the barbarian and Ryuu blushing was so sweet. After that first half of the episode that moment was really needed.

Their chemistry and relationship is only going to get stronger and the more this goes on the more imma ship them lol.

Only 2 episodes left T_T

This episode, to me was probably the best Danmachi episode in the series to date and that’s saying a lot because there’s several other episodes (future ones as well) could/can make a case. 10/10 episode for me and my goodness was it graphic, I felt bed for Ryu’s crew getting butchered like that

So as bad as this episode was I will say I did not expect the brutality in the flashback.  That said what a waste.  Why be that brutal at all if you're just going to censor the blood?  Also, no one cares about these characters.  They really should have just done the whole flashback in one episode cause splitting it up the way they did was annoying and gave the audience zero time to care about these characters.  The ending of the flashback was dumb too.  Let's just throw away three more lives instead of regrouping and fighting another day.  Let's just not tell our god anything that happened, hide from them, and ask them to leave so Ryu can go on a revenge murder spree.  The not flashback part was dumb too.  Healing magic exists yet we didn't use it until Bell wanted to take a swim in the Mermaid toilet.

This may have been my favorite episode from this season so far. This ep gave me vibes of mushoku tensei in the beginning, and a bit of vinland saga in the middle. I like the transition they did with the colosseum explosion from ep 8 into the astrea familia incident shown in ep 9, and was impressed at how much Bell's battle skill improved when he played dead to lure the monster to him. Surprisingly my eyes welled up with tears after seeing what happened to Astrea familia, and overall this season has been one of the best so far!

Although we already knew it happened since like Season 1 it’s great to finally see what happened to Ryu’s Familia, it was nice and brutal like I thought it’d be, only complaint I had with it is that a lot of the characters seemed to stand around while carnage was happening before them, though I guess it’s possible they were scared stiff too. It was done well tho, i think it was especially important in understanding Ryu’s pain up to this point and why she was trying to sacrifice herself before, it would have been nice to get to know the girls in her Familia better to make it even more devastating but I like what we got here.

And we didn’t just get to see the massacre but all that Ryu went through after it which I really appreciated. And back in the present, even when it looked like Bell took an absolute beating he still carried Ryu lol, what a soldier, and I love the fact we got those cute Ryu blush moments near the end despite the circumstances lol. And looks like next episode is called Daydream, maybe we’re looking at a Sunshine Daydream encore lol.

Tragic backstory, horrible Astrea family deaths. Sad.

But now, gaming mentality, how much EXP Ryuu stored after the deliverance of karma? And how much EXP a god would drop? I mean a killing a god would be cool, very JRPG like.

I'm thinking about how much xp Bell's gonna have when he gets back to the surface

As everyone else has stated this has by far been one of the best episodes to date.

The flashbacks give a lot of character building to Ryuu and how she ended up banned from ever being able to join another familia. I fill that as the sole survivor of the trap set by Jura she had the right to exact revenge on him. I do feel that killing off the entire Rudra familia and The God Rudra asking if she planned on killing a God before disappearing was justified. In the state that Ryuu was in I think she would have either killed Rudra or seriously maimed him.

I do have a question based on what was said in the flashback concerning Astrea and Ryuu. After Astrea agrees to leave Orario she states that she won't release Ryuu from her familia, So does that mean that she is still part of the Astrea familia? I will assume that Astrea is like Apollo now and living in the country-side or some other city. Since we haven't seen a map of the overall continent I will assume that there are other cities without a dungeon which is why most of the gods live in Orario. Also what happened to Rudra? Was he punished for allowing his familia to be out of control or did he escape to another city also?

Yes, Ryuu is technically still part of Astrea Familia as she still has Astrea's falna. As for Astrea, she is living in a city outside of Orario, and yes, there are many other cities out there. As for the Dungeon, the one in Orario is the only one that exists. Rudra I don't remember but he was probably sent to Heaven as punishment (Gods working for Evil us when caught received that punishment).

What a heartbreaking episode.  Bell and Ryu are definitely at the bottom, emotionally, so hopefully there is only upwards to go from here.

Looking at how Astrea Familia fared against the Juggernaut, I must say either the current one is weaker/slower, or Bell & co are a helluva lot stronger (I hate to use the term 'better' in these forums...it seems so juvenile), since they seem to have done better against that walking slaughterhouse of a monster

Oh my God man, what a rollercoaster of emotions that episode was. The Astrea Familia members deaths were so hard to watch, it was truly brutal.

As if Ryu wasn't already best girl, they went and twisted the knife cementing her spot at the top. It was really sad seeing what she had to go through and do in between after her familia's demise and before meeting Syr. I do wonder though if we're gonna see Astrea again, I think that'd be nice closure for Ryu.

After the mostly painful episode, they gave us some cute Ryu moments at the end. I'd say this episode is up there with the Minotaur fight from season one as one of the best Danmachi episodes of all time. I can't wait for the next episode.

great episode!!! Hayami Saori is such an awesome VA. while I was a bit disappointed with the last episode's adaptation, this one just more than made up for it with the quality it was animated into.

great job by the VA's as always and awesome work by the studio on bringing life to that dramatic last stand by Astrea Familia. the way they adapted not just from the novels was a very welcome surprise. looking forward to how they'll conclude it and enter the upcoming chaotic volumes.

Ryu bestest girl imo.
