This is disgusting. But! Give it time, in a few years we will be condoning pedophilia. Why not this? Sure, it's edgy now, but that's what they said about tattoos, piercings, and sex out of wedlock. The majority say it's gross now, but moral decay continues. Let's pick this issue up in 15 years and see where we are, shall we? |

Not really a huge fan. Don't even have tattoos or piercings. It looks okay on some people, but most times it's just really disturbing looking. |

I personally won't get any tattoos or piercings and I'm kinda glad my girlfriends the same way personally. But tattoo's wise why be a walking billboard when you can just wear a cool t-shirt But if you do all that extreme body modding don't be offended when people like point and laugh at you or talk shit about you because you look weird. Pretty sure your doing it to get senpai to notice you so i just find it really pathetic when people who look like marilyn manson wonder why people are picking on them |

@hitokiri1859 Believe it or not but trying to stand out is not actually the objective of many people who modify themselves (just a mere consequence of it). People can modify themselves for all kinds of reasons (and those who try to pick on people for looking different are just ignorant pricks). Romantic18 said: This is disgusting. But! What on earth does pedophilia have to do with people modifying themselves? Do you seriously think that if large tattoos etc become sociably acceptable, next thing people will be condoning is child abuse? That's quite a leap of the imagination there and I find paranoid social control freaks like you quite funny (in a sad way). traed said: Tharja said: Doesn't bother me... Yes that is body modification, even a haircut is a type of body mod, but I decided not to make that a focus because that has had its own topic several times before and would gather a lot of discussion in itself. Although if they make themselves look more unusual inttionally from surgery it could still fit in the topic. To be fair though I think that's quite a good point (about cosmetic surgery being extreme body modification). Going under the surgical knife is always an extreme route because not only can you not get anymore invasive than that, but all surgical procedures carry significant risks (and cost a lot of money etc). So although many people may not consider a woman getting a boob job done an extreme body modification, in many senses it is just as extreme (if not even more so) than many more regularly considered extreme body modifications (and just look at nose jobs- such a common cosmetic procedure but those even commonly involve bone been broken to achieve!). As to why we commonly don't view stuff like women getting boob jobs, men getting fake muscle implants or people getting nose jobs etc as extreme, well I suppose its probably more because of our societies values. Large boobs, big muscles and small straight noses are valued and so they're not considered extreme even if people go to very extreme lengths sometimes to achieve them. However punching a few holes in your ears? Suddenly many peoples reckoning that's considered going way too far lol (too weird or not harmonious enough with mainstream societal beauty standards etc)! So in many senses you could say that what makes a body modification is not about the extreme lengths someone might go to achieve it, but rather about how much it goes against mainstream beauty standards in society. (Which is a funny thought when you consider that far more women have died or seriously harmed their health getting boob jobs done yet getting a boob job done is rarely viewed anywhere near as extreme or "out there" as getting a tattoo or some small dermal implants etc done) traed said: [Oh okay thanks. Although I get this info on to her because reasons. >< I myself considered doing it before but im not that great an artist and id be worried screwing up on people which would drive me nuts with anxiety. Yeah I too once considered it as a career route as I used to do tattoo designs for people. But the main clincher for me was the reality that if I did an apprenticeship, I would be expected to practice doing tattoos on myself a lot (and by "expected" I mean an overwhelming and almost unavoidable pressure- its an expectation of the job). And while I love a lot of tattoo art (and have a lot of confidence in my skills/abilities as an artist in general), I wouldn't ever want to have to do tattoos on myself that I didn't want (either in their location, quantity, size or subject matter). Also the world of tattoo art can be very restrictive at times. As an artist you will struggle to actually do the art you really want to do (to make money you are often slave to the customers demands and it usually takes many years before you can realistically start to carve out a reputation for doing a particular style and attract the customers that you want etc). While some artists get a lot of freedom (doing the art they want to do and been given regular opportunity to come up with designs for clients etc), in reality these days most tattoo artists have to deal with an endless stream of customers who are adamant on getting some crappy design they saw on Google Images needled onto them (and there is little to no leeway for discussion over the design etc). And as an artist I found this a rather depressing reality. To be sure there are a "cream of the crop" realm of famous tattoo artists who have been fortunate and over many years, managed to create a career in tattooing where they are in control of what they want to do (their style of art, being in a good position to turn down customers, having a good stream of customers, having customers who want to design a tattoo with them, having a good income etc). But these artists are in a minority and are quite fortunate (because there are no guarantees that a career in tattooing will turn out this way). Also from just a style point of view, I am very into fine linear art. However when I used to do designs I found myself having to constantly tone down the level of detail I really wanted to do because there are technical elements to tattoo designs and the biggest one is factoring in how it will age/blur over time. For example while a leaf tattoo like this looks really nice; https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/79/99/0e/79990e59b502da6f944a631d76e0160d.jpg ...It will in fact not age gracefully (much of the detail will be irreversibly lost as that one blurs with age and not in a good way). Coming up with visually appealing pieces is one thing. But coming up with actually good designs for tattoos is another (and the two are not necessarily one and the same thing). So I decided that despite a lot of interest in the whole thing, pursuing becoming a tattoo artist was ultimately not for me (too little artistic freedom for my tastes etc). |

Anyone know who this guy is? He looks like some old god. It's pretty cool @Tokis86 Yeah, what I consider extreme I dont quite have a clear view on. I think if it is nearly irrvrsable or has negative health effects it is extreme. So conventional plastic surgery is extreme too. We are already questioning the age of consent and possibly moving to lower it. It's not a matter to simply "brush" off. Years ago, sailors and low-class people were the people to don tattoos, now it's totally common. The same will become true for other things once considered taboo. Severe body modification may be "strange" and "freakish" today, but it will be welcomed and accepted as normal in 15-20 years, according to historical comparisons. |

@Romantic18 Body modification has about as much to do with pedophilia as what geranium's have to do with quantum physics. I think you are being way overly paranoid about society! You go on about there being some sort of moral decay in society but if anything society is a lot less messed up than it used to be in the past. For example in the past countless people forced into marriage, people were imprisoned for being gay, child sex abuse rife in the ecclesiastical establishments, cheating rife in marriages, near inescapable domestic violence problems, widespread racism, serious sexism & inequality in society etc (the list goes on!). You are romanticizing and glossing over the past big time. Doomsayers like you have been going on about moral decay since Victorian times and before yet if anything, people's lives have dramatically improved since those times. The overwhelming majority of the population hates pedophiles and this has always been the case (and always will be)- don't be so scared about where society is heading! Your views sound more like the opinions of someone born in 1936 (not 1996). If you want to realize how outdated/inaccurate your views on tattoos are, I suggest you check out this article for some real tattoo history (and how mainstream tattoos have always been etc); http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-25330947 Spooks said: feminists would have us believe gamers and gaming is the most excluding of hobbies ammi rite guyz Where did you read that?? |

No offense but it seems like you are just mentioning feminism in this thread to b**** about it. because this is off topic I can only leave this here, if you want to know more about gamergate I don't know look into the stuff I linked. Obviously as its not on topic I can't reply about it again. It wasn't about hating women in gaming or sexism or racism as "not your shield" proved. Gamers have always been diverse and plenty of female gamers came out defending gamergate. Gamergate was poisoned from the start simply because they were taking on gaming journalists. so they could spin stories till the end of time. Gamergate was about finding out the dirty deals the journalists were playing with dev's. Bribes and hand outs. It was a call for investigation into the ethics of gaming journalism which at the time had very little rules to keep that sort of thing from happening. In response the media sites who were found out or had shit to lose from this began a systematic and wide spread smear campaign attacking gamers themselves. Which started the whole issue then feminists jumped on board with the journalists because they had deals with them such as some developers been on feminist frequencies staff and payroll and having feminist frequency give a very good review to their game on steam whilst not disclosing their connection to the developer. something that was against steam curator rules at the time. I wrote a huge page on gamergate which i really wish I would have saved its lost now somewhere in time on mal. I was taking gaming journalism at university at the time it all went down so I had to keep a keen eye on everything going on at the time but it became a feminist soapbox and clouding the waters of its actual reason for being. Gamers and gaming went from normal to opening a pandora's box of corruption and suddenly gamers and gaming are sexist. The journalists got found out and demonized their own audience. |

Wasn't there a guy who believed he was a tiger on a spiritual level? (I think he died) And he went under so many procedures to look like a tiger. (Sharper long teeth, shaped his mouth to look like that of a tigers') I wouldn't undergo any of these procedures since they do it without any sedation(most places I believe and I also watched a documentary where a guy got a hole in his balls without sedatives). I don't mind people who do this but it looks outright disgusting to me. lol Tattoos and piercings look so tame compared to this shit. |

Tokis86 said: So I just read this long article which came up tops on what Gamergate was about; http://gawker.com/what-is-gamergate-and-why-an-explainer-for-non-geeks-1642909080 The whole thing seems to have been sparked when a female game developer was hounded both online and offline about her sex life. The whole Gamergate controversy seems to have an extremely confused identity; "There has been so much hate. So many angry words, so many accusations, over...what? Video games? Women in video games? People who write about video games? It would be absurd if it hadn't forced people out of their homes for fear of their personal safety," wrote Kotaku's Luke Plunkett. My 2c from what I've read; To me, Gamergate seems like a cause that initially started out as a fierce case of trolling against some poor game developer woman over her sex life but which the "gamer community" later tried to legitimize/excuse/change in direction by arguing that what it was really all about was targeting corrupt journalism; In September, the attacks on Quinn coalesced into an organized campaign, coordinated on 4chan, Reddit, YouTube and in various IRC channels. Gamers came to a consensus that publicly harassing a woman over her sex life was a bad look. They quickly pivoted to focus on corruption in games journalism. 2. But that still didn't change the fact that at first it was originally nothing to do with targetting corrupt journalism (and also this Quinn woman continued to receive a torrent of abuse regardless etc); Despite numerous news sources, including Kotaku itself, debunking the existence of any review, some gamers continue to trot it out as an example of journalistic corruption months later. 3. The #Gamergate thing wasn't born until afterwards and seems to have a very confused identity; It's never been clear what that would mean. That's because #Gamergate has never really been about ethics, although some sincere participants have taken up that discussion. Chat logs released soon after the "Five Guys scandal" broke reveal the movement was focused on destroying Zoë Quinn first, reforming games reporting second. 4. Even its journalism attacking logic seems confused; "Many #Gamergate participants truly believe that they are fighting an important fight against corruption in game journalism. But to an outside observer, it's bizarre that they identify the greatest threat as the small, independent, crowdfunded developers, and not the huge profitable game companies that advertise on game sites." Etc. Maybe there are some people who identify with Gamergate and who have genuine interest in targeting journalist corruption. But to me at least, it looks like what this was basically about was a bunch of angry guys who attacking a female game developer over her sex life but when the attacking got out of control (and started drawing lots of attention), they realized that what they were doing looked really bad (and so they tried to legitimize the appalling behavior by basically saying "Its not what it looks like (really!)- we're actually giving hell to some random woman not because we hate her for her sex life etc but because we're trying to target corrupt journalism!"). Since then the "cause" has drawn in people from far and wide for all kinds different reasons and Gamergates identity has only become more confused. As for you Spooks. Well you mentioned Gamergate when I asked you why you thought feminists hated gamers. But from what I've read up, the only feminism element Gamergate has is less to do with actual gaming & journalism and more about feminists getting involved because a horde of guys online viciously hounded a female game developer over her sex life. You seem to have a low opinion of feminism |

Shoulder and upper arm area, stretching a little over the back This is just a guess but since your back has the thickest skin and doesnt gain that much muscle mass or fat that would change the least. My sister has a tattoo on the back of her shoulder blade area and she put on weight and ive not noticed it change much but its just a simple design so its hard for me to tell. My thoughts on this can be summed up by a certain quote from a certain movie: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should." |

Tokis86 said: You are romanticizing and glossing over the past big time. Doomsayers like you have been going on about moral decay since Victorian times and before yet if anything, people's lives have dramatically improved since those times. My bad. I didn't know the birth/rise of school shootings (that didn't used to happen) wasn't a big deal. Or the fact that divorce has rose from 1/10 to 1/2 since the turn of the 20th century. Or the fact that unplanned pregnancies have risen in the past few decades. Or the fact that domestic abuse has risen since the 1970's. Or that obesity is at an all-time high. You're right. Society is ten times better compared to how it was in the 1950's. My original point was simply stating that this extreme body modification is disgusting now.....but it frankly won't be that shocking in 20 years, given our current trajectory. |
