| Caster is relevant to the theme of chasing ideals/dreams and becoming disillusioned with them. Assassin is less connected but there's the whole "fakes" thing going on. I guess you could argue Rider has a really loose connection with the whole saving one theme, but consider that Rider ended up getting less development in all her screentime than either Caster or even arguably Assassin in less time. Not to hate on her character or anythibg, which I actually liked in HA, but it was lacking severely in HF. |

But zero was designed to be a single satisfying story when each of the stay night routes satisfy different niches in the story. The reason why LOTGH is so good because of it's long run time. No it was not. Zero is not a "single satisfying story". It literally requires FSN to function the same way routes require each other. |

Lol, nope, it doesen't. I know plenty of people ( including myself) who were plenty satisfied with Fate/Zero alone and view F/SN only as a nice complement to the story or don't like F/SN. Okay fair enough, thanks for the correction, but in that case, if you ask me, there's really no absolutely proper way to compare the two, since one is 3 stories that are meant to make up a whole, and one is just one proper story on its own. I mean people are free to compare it if they like, but the differences make it somewhat difficult to do it make a really good comparison. I'd say it'd be a no brainer than a VN would be better than a single LN, even if the latter is made to be pretty detailed on its own. The VN would have to be pretty bad to not be the better one, since even if each route isn't as detailed as the LN, a sum of the 3 make it significantly larger in scale. So yeah, either way you look at it the comparison is unfair then, you can't compare a single detailed story to a route that requires 2 others to be whole, and you can't compare a whole game to just a single LN. Well, as I said before, you can compare but it's not ideal, and drawing a really good conclusion would be difficult IMO. But hey, that's what these discussion are for, right? Lol. xD |

| So this a serious thread? Let's see, i don't like these kinds of threads since i usually view F/SN + F/Z as one Story together, but if i have too.... If we are talking Anime only, then F/Z blows F/SN out of the Water F/Z had: Explanations. Monologues, Better pacing, etc... If we are talking about VN, then F/SN > Zero. F/SN had mostly the better Servants, you got more then one view of what could happen (routes and stuff), and i liked the characters there more as well. Also, no character felt useless, unlike some in F/Z (i am looking at you, shit Caster and Shit Master), since every character gets atleast one route where they shine. Also, Shirou > Kerry. Imo, HF > UBW (without Day 15 after Answer shit) >= F/Z >= UBW (with Day 15 after Answer shit) >>>>>> Fate. |

| Overall F/Z is better than UFOUBW. Apart from the fight scenes, there is a lot of talking in the fight scenes in UFOUBW but god was it worse in F/Z. Those Saber vs Lancer fights... jesus... |
| Zero is definitely better, both on it's own and as an adaptation. This still wasn't bad though. |

| I don't know if this is a bait thread or not. Anyway, I'm gonna respond seriously now that the anime is over (my comparisons are talking about the novel, since ufoUBW is obviously inferior to Fate/Zero's anime): Unlimited Blade Works > Fate/Zero > Fate > Kotomine Feel UBW is easily the best part of the whole VN in terms of pacing, characters, themes and climax. Archer vs Shirou is the pinnacle of the VN and Shirou vs Gilgamesh serves as the perfect final obstacle for Emiya's resolve about his ideals. It also has the only Shirou I can stand in terms of personality and motivation, so that's a plus for me. Fate/Zero is also amazing in terms of atmosphere (in which he triumphs the original novel), very entertaining characters (aside from Assassin, whose only purpose in the Fate universe is to die to make other people look cool), plus interesting moral and ideal confrontations. Fate is the introductory route that serves as a bridge for the rest, which I found particularly interesting because it was what introduced me to the setting of the Fate series and characters that were participating in this war, so when I played it for the first time, all was new and exciting to me. It had it's fair share of greatness as well, even if it didn't have anything particularly mindblowing. |

| I failed to understand the rationale for comparing Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night UBW. They are two different but interconnected stories. I enjoyed watching Fate/Zero and I really liked its dark story. I had played all the routes in Fate/Stay Night visual novel, and I could say I'm satisfied with their original adaptation of the UBW route. What is there to compare anyway? |
