In my homeland, the land of the Lelly Lels, "toppiest of the top lels" is an expression we use to describe a lel that has reached the peak of it's maturity, and thus is far more lelly than other simple lels.

My usage of such an expression means that I found this situation worthy of such a lel, and I wished the express that lelly feeling with my fellow forum goers. I hope that clears up any confusion you may had.
Still makes absolutely zero sense, but hey. If you role with that shit, I ain't gonna stop you.

I agree, it has indeed been a very toppiest of the toppy top lels level of experience reading this thread, it has.

I'm afraid I may start running low on toppy lels soon.

i think everyone has different tastes..

it doesn't how matter how old you are

my sister is almost 23 and she loves romance...
while I (a 14 year old) on the other hand love dark fantasy and horror

it all goes on your taste....

what about people in their 20s - 30s that watch hentai?
certainly hentai can't be the best thing ever.... right?

i happen to watch both unlike most here
"If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine"

When the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run
There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one
For the Union makes us strong

I don't get how, but ok..

Man, I don't even feel like watching old anime anymore. Congratulations Dragon, you've gone and made old anime lose a viewer.

I never get how newer fans are like "I don't watch anything before 2000"

YOU'RE MISSING OUT!

Screw animation. What about PLOT DEVELOPMENT and CHARACTER GROWTH !!!?

Most important elements in an anime. Hands down.

I think you meant art, not animation. Anyways, new anime do have too like Okashi said. I mean, Parasyte for example.

only because it adapts a manga from the 80s though.

I knew somebody would come and post that, haha. Well, there are plenty of examples: Your Lie in April, Pretty Rhythm franchise, Aria. That's only a few out of plenty too.

I have like 1000 anime from that time period so I know, Parasyte is just an easy example to use for both sides. You know 'the only good anime today are the ones adapting old stuff like Parasyte or JoJo or Ping Pong.'
Still, you're tempting me to write another intense rant about those terrible Shigatsu character interactions. NOT good examples if you ask me. To defend new anime all you have to do is throw Yuasa titles at that person until they see how wrong they are :P.
I probably regret this post by now.

Daily reminder that newer fans had more options from almost every decade to choose from which means that they can't possibly be more closed-minded.

That makes no sense. Having more options to choose from but still willingly limiting yourself to a small portion od them for shallow reasons makes them more close-minded if anything.

I can enjoy both old and new styles of anime, but I tend to watch more newer ones than older ones. I just like the simplistic art style of newer anime a bit more than the older style I guess.

Of course one should not limit themselves to just old or new anime.
For those who seek perfection, there can be no rest on this side of the grave.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Just saying, the amount of options available can't have anything to do with closed-mindedness ever, since that term just addresses how someone handles having multiple options. Limiting your options a priori is basically what it means. Having more options to pick from doesn't make a difference so I don't know why you brought it up. I'm not even sure if you're agreeing or disagreeing with what I said.
I probably regret this post by now.

Well of course it might as well be coincidence but the quality of threads like this or the objectivity one or the sophistication one has drastically declined since yesterday, any potentially interesting discussion point got buried under pointlessness within hours. Though now that I look back this particular thread also wasn't interesting before, I must have misremembered it. Still all the 'But Geass is objectively terrible and anyone who disagrees is stupid and I hate them' 'your posts suck and I will repost that 20 times' 'old fans suck because of you' childishness of the last 2 pages was a decline even for this thread.
I probably regret this post by now.

I'd be honest.
I use to love more action oriented stuff.
As I got older I liked more Comedy stuff.
When I hit my teens I was into Romance, and Seinen Stuff.
When I got to about 17. I was back into more action and more comedic stuff.
As I got older by one year. Slice of life was back in the game for me.
And now I watch anything as long as its interesting. or Funny.

Artwork wise, depends. OVA's in the past tended to be more detailed, and the frame rates were smoother and better. In the movies you could tell alot more work and detail was added compared to the normal tv shows. (You still can in some mainly those like Gintama. I would say Naruto, but I don't feel like the last 5 movies had detail added. One Piece on the other hand felt more was there, even a change in style for one of the movies.)

I think the most important take away here is that older anime fans are just all around better when it comes to taste profiles. Its nothing to get mad about, we just are.

It's a generalization but yeah I have noticed younger fans (early teens) like more super bright, shiny artstyles than realistic ones. They go crazy for anything with bright colorful backgrounds and characters with colorful eyes and hair. They don't really like old 90's OVAs and movies which have darker looking colors but realistic character designs.

Sometimes I feel like it's the brightly coloured hair that makes the characters and the environment more realistic. Not always, but sometimes. I personally don't like the style of old animes (bar a few things like movies, e.g. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds, which for the record, was a fantastically well done film.)
I think the old style looks crap, to be honest.

Anime is always anime.
Maybe it changes, maybe it's kinda different. But overall, its still the same thing.

We all like the weird shit that anime gives us, and I'll like them all the same forever.
I wouldn't really call Astroboy the peak of storytelling, and I wouldn't call Shinsekai Yori bad storytelling.

No matter what year or decade it may be, they have their good and they have their bad. Most of the time, we're either blinded by nostalgia or hate for the new stuff because we hate change, or something else entirely.
Either way, anime is always anime. That will never change for me.

I sound like a fucking philosopher, don't I? That's cheesy as fuck.
