Oh god. Tsumugu x Chisaki I didn't like either. Not a horrible ending though. Not sure about other things as well. I'd definitely watch a season 2 though. Oh well.
8.5/10 is what I give it.

Have to round down to 8 though since decimals aren't a thing...

Why round down rather than up? Its orthodox that digits 0,1,2,3,4, are meant to be rounded down while 5,6,7,8,9 round up.

Just saying since I'm a tad bit curious.

I felt that an 8 was more suitable than a 9.

While watching the last few episodes I wondered, how did they
do the original ceremony for the Ofunehiki sacrifice(when the Sea God was alive) if the sacred blue flames are one of things left behind after the Sea God died?

Anyways I'm so glad that Hikari and Manaka are now together, and I kind of knew that Chisaki liked Tsugumu for a while and Sayu for Kaname. I was scared that Kaname and Hikari would be left alone in the end, but thankfully they weren't.
I actually liked Minua's character, but I her one sided love for Hikari wouldn't work out in the end. Hopefully she's able to move on.

I'm glad most of the gang is back together, but it kind of feels like Chisaki was kind of left out from the group though, mostly because they can't go to school together due to the age difference. I'm also glad that mostly everyone woke up. Uroko looked like he probably got some kind closure at the end.

It was a great series, just kind of sad that I finished it. At least my worst fear didn't occur(even though it would be highly unlikely) with Manaka saying something like, "I actually love Tsugumu" at the end. Hahaha.

That was a really great ending.

When I started this, I initially thought that this is just one of those cliche drama and romance anime in an otherwise (kind of) fantasy setting. Then when the story was almost halfway, things really got serious. Since then, it became more dramatic and the story became more interesting so I began to be curious as to what will happen next episode, all the way up to the end. The story did not disappoint me, though I felt it was not exactly a "masterpiece", but then again it was well executed with the dramatic scenes that kinda gave me the feels sometimes (didn't shed a tear though).

One thing I would always remember about this anime are the sceneries, particularly the sea and shioshishio. It really is amazing. To be honest, I don't really look forward to those but then I can't help but say how beautiful they are. As for the soundtrack, I think the songs has those melodies fits the anime really well, with a quiet and relaxing feel.

Great job, P.A. Works. Looking forward to Glasslip next season.

I'm really happy with the end of this. This anime is exactly my type, and even if when I started it I wasn't so sure of it I'm glad I kept watching it. The drama, the plot twists and the overall feeling that you had that you were never really sure of what would happen next kept me addicted until the end. And of course, the fact that - for like the first time on my life - all and I mean /all/ the pairings I was rooting for became (or there was at least an hint or two) cannon made me really happy. I was rooting for Hikari x Manaka all the time. :3

Rather disappointed with how the 2nd half went, it's not so much with what happened as opposed to what could have been as a result of what the ending of the 1st half alluded to. I can say i'm thoroughly surprised, i didn't expect romance to play a gigantic role in just about every part of the show, but in the end, at least to me, that's all this show was, just another romance anime...with characters that i felt were a bit bland, and neither of the 4 original main characters underwent any sort of character development.

The other problem would be the forced drama, and the theme blender. By now, after as many romances as i've watched, it's very tough to feel anything anymore from romances, something once in a blue moon will catch my eye, but very rarely, and quite frankly the convoluted love octagon shied me away from shipping.

Ah well, besides feeling immensely let down, it wasn't all that bad. 7/10

I would have rated this anime a 9 but the ending didn't turn out of what I had in mind so it is an 8. I was expecting at the end of the scene Manaka to confess her feeling again or vice versa(Hikari)then kiss/hug. Miuna has even kissed Hikari so Manaka why couldnt you do the same.

I am actually very disappointed at how the plot progressed. Such as what happens and who the creators decided to ship and among other things that annoy me to no end!

...However, I think overall, while I do not like what happens, the story was good and it was fun to watch. Ending was pretty decisive imo, contrary to what others say it's pretty much decided what happens. For me, open endings aren't bad. I think this show rates 8~8.5 in my book.

I read through the post and I don't want to be a combo breaker here but.......THAT WAS A BEAUTIFUL ENDING!!!! T-T

First half seem like a cliche to me and to tell you the truth the animation and music are what keeps me watching this but after the time skip episode things just become interesting.

I mean this is just one of those shows that you got a feels moment even from the side characters. I always thought it was Hikari and Manaka all along but the other ships I kinda guessed it after the first half of the series. Even Miuna was given a proper closure by hinting a possible ship with her classmate that she rejected and by getting over her feelings with Hikari via "dissolved by the sea" (correct me if I'm wrong). Tsumugu was a little aggressive with Chisaki but I kinda like that ship as well as Kaname and Sayu. Other than the romance, I also like how they portrait the value of family that despite the differences in culture and environment they still love each other and also how the sea and surface people got together at the end.

The last part though, after the credits, I don't get the point of inserting that. I might watch this episode again for that.

I hope anyone can answer the question. Why chiisaki doesn't hibernate when the time comes? is it because her thick ena build up are interrupted after she ate? or is there any reason for this question.

Because Chisaki stay in the surface.

I didn't really care about the fact that no relationships were actually official. All I cared about was that their feelings were at least heard. Only an idiot would not know who likes who and who's probably going to end up with who at the end of all this.

All the pairings went pretty perfectly to be honest, except for the fact that I actually liked Miuna more than Manaka.

Chisaki x Tsumugu
Sayu x Kaname
Manaka x Hikari

And as predicted, Miuna was left out. (only negative) :(

Not true as it was more like a forced pairing instead. Have a look at a thread I created since I cannot be bothered explaining the same reasons

Yeah it legitimately bothered me that Miuna's feelings "faded away into the sea" and it bothered me even more that it was insinuated that the little beta faggot that has had a crush on her hasn't given up. Miuna is much better than Manaka. Miuna is love. Manaka is shit.

Its not like she lost her feelings to love, she just said her tears faded into the sea, which could mean many different things. At least she knows what love is still, which is evident when she said, "Even though I lived on the surface, I fell in love with someone from the sea."

I'm pretty sure she is able to love but she has completely given up on there ever being a relationship with her and Hikari. But, ever since learning Hikari liked Manaka, she has basically sacrificed her feelings so its not surprising that she's at a point where she can finally move on.

Kind of bullshit that she didn't fight harder for her love because Manaka is SHIT.

Don't get too bitter about shipping. Miuna got over it, moved on and will likely find love elsewhere. Most likely Uroko or Minegishi.

Hikari loved her as family and that's important.

ManakaxUroko wouldn't have worked because she looks like the seagod's daughter while Miuna looks like a hotter version of his wife.

This is such a strange couple to place on a DVD cover tbh. It would've made more sense if it was Miuna & Sayu (bffs), Miuna & Manaka (the sacrifices) or Uroko & the original Ojoshi-sama.

Personally, I expected and wanted to see drama like a Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. That is, Hikari had to stay on the ground, not Tsumugu. And instead made some stupid baby love. Obstinacy ram. In terms of plot this anime weak. Especially in the last series was all too predictable. But the audio and visual part of Simply awesome, I really appreciate it

P.S. From the beginning I was a fan of Hikari x Chisaki. And do not remind me about it

Definitely a show I won't forget anytime soon.

If the mid part would've been better I would give this 9/10, but it's missing something even though I don't know what.

This was such a beautiful anime, I laughed, I cried, I was crazy about the OST and I loved all the characters. This has become one of my favorites for sure. The ending wasn't as great as the whole series cause I would prefer a clear one but it was still satisfying enough. And yes, I saw that TsumuguxChisaki and HikarixManaka were implied (and KanamexSayu is a possible future couple) but I was expecting more romance like a kiss or at least holding hands scene.

Since I loved all the characters I didn't hate any ships, but my favorites were ChisakixTsumugu and HikarixMiuna. I love Manaka but I love Miuna even more.

Overall 10/10 for me.

The ending was ok, not really unexpected, but it could have had a bit more umpf or added closure like more years past and family, more kids, children etc. Al lin all the first ending song was beutiful, the shows theme and plot devices were unique and I cared enough about the characters to stick with it and give enough of a damn to really pay attention. The fact that everything that was alluded to came to a close in end speaks for itself. This was really good story writing, and even though we didn't get a kiss or anything between Hikari and Manaka, everything was implied. besides, they are just kids. it would be weird to think of 14 year olds kissing each other.

i like the show, it really gave you the feels >_<
this ending had a little problem though, felt the unusual rushed pace for such a slow-paced show, it destroyed the momentum -__-

and oh, kinda annoyed that by the hikari guy, he seems disillusioned between manaka and Ms.Hybrid miuna...that the script forced the latter to concede herself, making the last straw for hikaXmana, while other characters made they proper moves to create their own loveteam (see the rational TsumuguXChikari)

oh well, this show is 100% no-brainer feels oriented= it bounds past logic and reasoning!
good news was that the "ena"-mans and humans had made peace, with miuna/akira as their figure of "possibility", good job uroko-sama even he's just a scale of a god m/

8/10 for all that quality and romantic complexity on par w/ Toradora...PA Works best since Angel Beats

Agreed. MUCH of the show was quite predictable actually. It is a romance show really, and aside from the plot device of the sea folk, it was actually a little bland. Hence the barely 8/10 score. It made me feel good, but at the same time I really had to fast forward through some scenes that are just repeated far too often in the media ( movies, music, etc). Still feel good lol

Great ending, I've absolutely loved this show. The couples that ended up together were all the ones I was rooting for too, so I'm thrilled. The reunions between the hibernating sea people and the ones on the surface was touching. I loved when the first OP came in at the end. I'm sad it's over, but I've enjoyed every episode. Anyone else extremely disappointed with their odd messaging at the end?

And that basically the entire plot is that it was one big misunderstanding in thinking there is such a thing as a "fateful encounter" and it basically seems to be implying all loves are equal and nothing's permanent. Kind of the hormonal view of love. I mean I put up with all those frustrating episodes in the middle just to have some awkward ending that made the whole thing seem pointless, like "there is no fated loves here, just wherever their "feelings"/hormones lead them!"

It contradicts itself in ways. Yeah, feelings are passed down in the ocean, but if there is no such thing as destiny, and it's just "feelings" aren't those feelings just stupid hormones/chemical reactions/etc. You can't take away the mystery/specialness/fate of love and then try to assign it some sort of overarching importance...well I guess they tried... and worse, in a way they tried to equate a Stockholm syndrome love (the woman sacrificed to the Sea God) with the "true love" she had before. They even tried to imply that the short-term love that changes is "real love" too, since there is no such thing as "fate".

Basically didn't we all just waste our time watching a pointless love since nothing is fated and all love is equal and can be created by hormones or five years together (chisaki+tsumugu). So basically we watched all that suffering/anguish/whining/arguing to get a short five minute spiel about how nothing matters cept indulging in hormones, gee thanks "Progressive" Animation Works!

Actually the whole point is that NOTHING is "fated" so therefore you can't assume Manaka+Hikari happens since they could get separated by events and maybe like the Chisaki+Tsugumu style thing happens and they drift apart and if they spend a few years with someone else then they will love other people, but somehow this anime wants to say that that past love which faded away and wasn't permanent was just as real a love as a everlasting one (which in a way is saying there is no such thing, and I'm sure the writer doesn't believe in true love, but rather temporary hormonal love).

...one could call this cheezy.

Rather than pairing Hikaru with Manaka or Miuna, the last two episodes made it look like Manaka&Miuna would have been the approriate pairing ;)

I don't remember watching an anime before where all the characters cried this much during the series. It would have been actually been funny to make a chart of who cried in which episode.

All in all this series was good but it could have been so much better.

Great show, so far the best of this year. Feelings that dissolves into the sea. Past love that makes us the way we are today. The importance of trying.

Yes, some earlier episodes could have been better I guess. But I have to say I liked how they ended it - it was pretty much happy ending after all that suffering :) (though some bittersweet ending with Miuna staying at sea or being dissolved as love into it would have even greater impact I think - but that just me nitpicking :)

I am glad Chisaki finally has her happiness and the same goes for Saya. Other storylines were also ended well. Manaka was annoying during first cour and she was missing at second but in the end I kinda liked her too. Yeah, it's not on par with Anohana but it's definitelyl very good show I would recommend. I would like continuation movie or OVA, simply because I like those characters, but I guess it's the best as it is, nothing more is needed to say. Wish there was more animes like this.

Yup, my feeling exactly.
That scene where Tsumugu pulled Manaka out of the water on the first episode seems so pointless now. Kind of frustrating.
Also, I don't like what they did to Kaname. To me, it felt like they threw Sayu on him just so he wouldn't be left alone and stuff. Ugh.
