@sasahara_n Yea both shows have that contrast of silly humor and scary moments with Moe style characters. I think once The group in DG get into a situation where they don't come out 100% victorious is where the show can truly be taken serious as a horror as its only true horror if bad things happen to important characters that stick for the rest of the series and actually changes them for better or worse.
@ToMuchMayo Wait for the next 2 big arcs.

@CrimsonTome Ill be watching for sure so I'll look forward to the later arcs. Show has been on a solid streak of good eps so far. Hopefully Animation doesn't take a dip which is my only concern.

I wonder when will we get a new OP. I really like this one though (the full version especially).
7:15 BRO. Damn, this one got me lol. This is the first jumpscare so far right?

9:18 安土桃山時代 (Azuchi–Momoyama jidai) - The Azuchi–Momoyama period was the final phase of the Sengoku period in Japanese history from 1568 to 1600.
This story sound like something that would actually happen irl.

This was the scariest episode by far damn. I actually got chills. I love it.
And I'm still wondering about this spirit in the ED. When will we see them?
@Embient The car tunnel ghost from episode 7 qualifies as a jumpscare too.

Yayoi hanging from the tree is either an illusion or it's her but regardless she's alive as not only did her finger quiver but the next episode preview showed her alive so either way she does recover. I am surprised that she, at least temporarily, got fooled into thinking Keitaro was holding her hand.

Meanwhile, Keitaro has to deal with his own issues and even got his throat partially cut! Damn, sounds like he might be cursed and it also appears that they got in over their heads. It looks like they might use a powerful spirit to help them out and I wonder if Eiko will come out since she was shown briefly checking up on Keitaro.

Very insane and spooky episode. That granny jumpscared me. What a creepy guide really. First time seeing Yayoi got caught by a ghost. It shows how stronger the spirits there are in that place.

^ Imagine thinking horror needs to be one note where people kill each other in gruesome ways. There is a spectrum of horror.
@Shiyodoge yeah, my favorite is H.P. Lovecraft and most of that has nothing to do with disemboweling people. like, to the other guy i say, "read more books".

@StateofOhayo I don’t think it’s books. Might be low or imbalanced dopamine receptors. The harder it is feel fear, something is wrong. I was once there. Desensitized to fear/pleasure at one point.

They chew more they could handle, s rank is no joke, i can't even imagine sss...

Hope we get to see the graduate Yayoi bringed with her, its probably their only chance to get out of that cursed forest

Also finally a curse that Yayoi cannot one shot with nothing to worry about, Keitaro is gonna have to take care of this himself and the horror aspect can truly shine this way

That is a pretty creepy situation to be in. Would be scary to have someone you're with just disappear and have to worry about them like Yayoi vanishing from Keitaro's sight and even worse him running into her presumed dead body as he saw it.

That is a pretty tragic backstory there, I wonder if it's based on anything historical or not. I was able to confirm there was a siege that took place in 1590 at Hachioji Castle against the Hojo clan. That's all i could find in English.

A typo in the subs distracted me a moment. A couple letters of a word was reversed.

Great sinister atmosphere and no unncessary comic relief. Only problem is the weekly format for keeping up the tension and the momentum.

Best moment was the scene where he grabs Yayois hand and what happened immediately after. Really caught me offgard.

This—is getting kind of boring. Now that there's more of an established arc to what's going on, it's been nonstop action, and what made the earlier episodes good, the people and their interactions and motives, is gone. I do appreciate that Dark Gathering has made its spirits fairly unpredictable, but this kind of action isn't enough to sustain a show by itself. This particular episode needed to dwell more on Yayoi and Keitaro's relationship; it should've had them talk and argue more, not just yoink Yayoi away. Though we as the audience know they'll get through it, Keitaro does not (even if Yayoi does); Yayoi was already reckless to exhaust Keitaro having him bike them for hours to confront a spirit, and it was really Yayoi's fault they were separated. All the episode needed to do was have Keitaro complain to her for a couple minutes that this wasn't the best way to go about things; then that would have foregrounded their relationship. Instead we keep getting these too-long recaps at the beginning.

Eiko knows: everything goes to shit without her.

horror? really? 11 eps aired and it is not even scary a bit comparing to Higurashi for example, this is more like a comedy-parody to horror. i'm waiting for more, considering DG is 25 eps long, but my hopes are not so high((.

It's difficult to compare a lot of things - particularly horror and horror-adjacent things in anime, including this, to Higurashi in a meaningful way, because Higurashi has a much more in-depth story in the first place.

Dang, I feel like this show just keeps on getting crazier and crazier with it's supernatural and horror elements. Sure, it's not actually that scary, but at least it's going full into it regardless. Also, I'm pretty sure that story the old lady told was biased off of actual events, wasn't it?

I'm starting to think Keitaro is kind of pathetic. It is like his 10th time dealing with ghosts and still teeth clattering, running around without thinking. It make sense to feel desperate over life and dead matters, but losing mind, screaming and running around is totally another case. What is all his past experiences for? At least, calm his shit down and think.

episode felt very Fatal Frame like and the fucked up story having ties to "history" has it''s own form of creepyness also that barrier...

Legit dat old woman jump scared the fuck out of me.

Oh so the last ed woman spirit actually is the graduate spirit they were looking for, and it's used that elephant doll? Its fun to see once again Keitaro suffering from those s-rank spirit domain. Yayoi even after self-proclaim herself as an experience ghost buster, she still manage to let herself get caught off guard by that. But eh? Shameless narrative end-credit scene giving all the fun part of this episode and showing how they manage to break off the caught and try to catch the castle-ruin spirit with the monk-grizzly-bear-doll spirit. Oh well then, let's see next!

@auroraloose Im sure we'll get more characterization throughout still. I do agree that Yayoi and Keitaro relationship needs to be developed more as for now it just feels like Keitaro is force to play along with Yayoi shenanigan's. At least she respects him more. I Just hope Keitaro gets a decent amount of progression to be more confident in tough situations as it would get annoying for him to constantly panic (even though dealing with this kind of stuff is stressful). Hopefully these tougher areas gives him a good wake up call and realize that actions are louder than just self confidence boosting words.

Easily the best episode so far and it’s not even a remote contest.

Wonder when the whole “Keitaro actually loves the feeling of fear” shtick will come into play again. Bro needs to be more crazy to handle this shit.
