I suspected the pregnancy after i saw her hold her tummy in a scene at on the previous episode glad to see it confirmed.

The whole flower and "i understand" scene was kind of bullshit. They didn't even shown wtf he supposedly understood and never explained wtf happened anyway.
And the op music that played while showing Marlene did not fit the moment at all.

Btw she is more that Yuji deserves really. She's a great woman why he was all over the place for most of the series.

I don't really think second earth was killed about suicide genes or whatever. Because that wouldn't make any sense. If the earth had the power to make humanity start killing themselves it would have done that in the first place instead of using a roundabout approach of creating the blue. Cabin fever and lack of resources is the much more believable reason.

I thought it was a good show. The ending is preachy with the environmental bull but other than that I found it to be a good series.

Yeah the environmental preaching is annoying.

As about the destruction on second earth. It's probably a combination of limited resources(i still do not get how anyone can be so dumb to not thing that he can't go without resource) and lack of dream. I mean the guy just told them they are gonna live in a metal box in cold space forever. It just makes you frustrated thinking that not even your children will ever had the chance to sit on grass and see the blue sky.
Humans naturally want to live on the planet surface. Being up there is detrimental to their physiology but the dream of getting their planet back kept them going. This guy though killed all their dreams and the only thing that made them live threw the conditions of space. Naturally despair followed.

Kudo's in particular for showing sex as a normal part of life, instead of the typical "blush, I'm afraid of the opposite sex" so prevalent in many series.

Indeed, also nude scenes etc existed but almost none felt like some silly fanservice. The show manages to show such stuff more naturally.

Well, that's it! I'm glad I watched this in 2016, it's Anime that deserves to be seen. I'm just glad for Marlene and Yuji, and that there will be no more Blue... 8/10

I like Starship Troopers and this series definitely reminded me of it. It was okay but watching it was definitely a struggle. I think this is the first time I've actually disliked a character so much. I just can't stand Yuji - from his personality to his stupid hair (a bit shallow yeah). The story was interesting otherwise I wouldn't have finished it.

Same for me ! Yuji is one of the worst character i have ever seen !

I didn't get the ending at all. So it's a happy ending, I can see that much, but are humans still going to have to be low in population? What happened to Yuji's friend? And the earth is reborn, is that what he said?

Eh, forget it. Good series, but could use some work.

Weird ending.
The people from space couldn't stand the isolation and in the fight between both sides all was lost.

I actually thought it was a great final episode except the space station thing. The battle was the best from the series and one of the best I've saw.

I find this eco-bullshit thing pretty hypocritical, I mean you made this show using technology, you present great shots of technolgy (robots, space ships, space ships interiors), obviously a part of you loves technology, so why do you think people should return back to basics? It makes you seem a hypocrite.
Anyway, it kinda was this or going into space, seeing the blue would destroy them again so rebuilding civilization would be a doom plan, so at least it makes sense inside this world.

So yeah, I kinda liked this, even if just for the battle and for...Marlene's gonna have a baby! Don't judge her choice in boyfriends, I'm sure Yuji would be a caring father. So, this shows made care for his characters, had cool scenes and great shots of scenery and technology. This for me makes it a great series.

Maybe it's just me but those last two episodes felt almost completely detached from the overall plot. The main plot-line ended in episode 24 and there rest felt like an unnecessary side story.

Like holy shit it seems like Amick had the right idea in wanting to leave second earth, I wonder what she's doing now. But damn was it really necessary for them to kill Seno and kill eachother causing complete destruction on second earth?
Regardless of that weird ending I quite liked the show.

Pointless story.

There are so many things they could have focused on during the course of series but just didn't. I can't even remember anything important and I finished it two days ago.... Also, I felt really strong disgust with Marlene's character, and I think that her change during the course of the series is just unnatural. Humans don't just change like that (She was f*cking that guy while children were dying around them in that one episode, ffs). Therefore, I just can't hide my disappointment over the fact that she got a happy ending instead of well deserved Blue horizontal chop.
At least the degenerates on the station got what was coming to them.

1/10 from me.

Honestly the last couple minutes was a bit confusing but it was good to see a happy ending for Yuji & Marlene. The last fight with Blue was pretty good though. I really liked the scores for this anime. Overall I did find the anime enjoyable.

What a retarded ending. These last episodes were extremely rushed, but this Gaia bs takes the cake. Life will be good now my ass, especially for all the people who rely on technology to move on. So perfunctory and thoughtless, I should know it couldn't end well after the protagonist started shifting into someone else without any nuance due to braindead sci-fi, and got back to his feet after a classic 'it's me, the person you liked, be yourself again'. Disappointing series. Oh, and the animation sucks. Shit barely moves.

This was a pretty interesting show but it's let down by its writing. It had a lot of potential both for its story and characters. Marlene was pretty interesting until the last few episodes, after which her sole reason for existence is Yuji. Yuji himself is just a poorly written character.

I think some of what this show did was good but it's not great. 6/10.

OK this ending is up there in the WTF the director/writer ran out of ideas and went 100% BS department.

If this anime was remade, and with a proper ending... then it could potentially be a classic 8+. But this god awful ending... (well lets face it, terrible 2nd half) needs a major re-write.

I watched this when it aired on Adult Swim back in the early 2000's. Thought I'd give it a rewatch to see where I landed on it as a refresher and to see it in it's uncensored glory. Albeit still in shitty 480p. XD

Thought the story was pretty much nonsense and in that way the ending kinda fits. Outside that though and some pretty slow pacing at times, I enjoyed the rest. Some pretty solid character development and they did a good job building up this oppressive and dangerous atmosphere.

This kept it from dipping in abysmal territory and was what kept me from dropping it, but for me, it's just not enough to overcome the stories shortcomings which are numerous. Sooo...4/10

I really liked this series. Might just be my tastes though. There aren't many bloody, sci-fi, horror, romance anime with aliens, and it was awesome to see them all come together in this story, especially with an older and more mature cast then what anime usually has to offer.

Yes... Yuji was a little annoying at times, but the world would probably be a better place if there were more Yuji's, and its not like he's unrealistic.

About the ending... I kinda liked it. I don't agree with the people saying it was a suicide order that killed the people on second Earth. The scene leading up to the destruction clearly shows the people going crazy, probably from knowing they are gonna starve soon and boredom. Its more likely that this lead to hysteria/revolt, them trying to leave, and things just going wrong.

I honestly didn't think the environmental angle was too preachy. NEWS FLASH: humans are fucking the Earth up. hahaha for real people, its kind of a fact and you have to accept it, so don't be getting mad at media that lays it out for you.

Btw, the reason why people killed each other on that spaceship is because Seno decided they need to stay in space, but rest of the people wanted to go back to earth. It was basicly a civil war and they ended up killing themselves.

but that doesnt make any sense, i mean, seno let yuji let with a bunch of volunteers, and that is also true for the commander woman whose name i dont remember, i for one think he didnt deserved to die

There goes Second Earth. It's never pleasant to watch marvelous structures and installations being destroyed, but this series lets you know from the start that everything is vulnerable to calamity. It's a good and moderately enjoyable anime with brutal visuals and constantly developing characters. It's unfortunate that many of the arcs, especially in the second half of the series, felt narratively worthless and inconsequential. It also expected you to feel sorry for some characters who are killed off despite not affording them nearly enough likeable traits or screentime to make their deaths impactful on the viewer.

Between the WTF nonsense conversation with the Earth and Second Earth deciding to go crazy for Reasons, the ending just kinda sucked. Marlene and Yuji got their happy ending so that's something. Overall an ok anime but it sucks that we never met Dice and Elena again. Those first 11 or so episodes before coming to second earth were my favorite after that i don't think the series really did that much for me again.

Less than average show but not a bad watch, the ending it's a bit messy though, I liked more the 2nd half than the 1st one (1st half felt like a SoL with an episodic bug fight), nonetheless Dice was a nice character, anyways 4.35/10.

Horrible ending, the show started going downhill after they left Korea and declined even further after they made it to Second Earth. Underwhelming revelations, wasted potential plot lines, inconsistent writing (such us how hard it was to take a Blue out) and one of the most forced romances I've ever seen in an anime.

The council should've had a more nefarious/inhumane method of using the sleepers as a way to fight the Blue instead of the council members just being revealed to be reckless idiots. They could've used the sleepers as test subjects to research a biological weapon to use against the Blue or experimented on them to turn them into some sort of biomechs to fight the Blue. Instead they just gave them standard training and some fancy mech that somehow enhances the fighting abilities of only Tony and Yuji from what we saw. The other sleepers were just as useless as the normal pilots with just Tony and Yuji carrying the missions.

Then the plot turned into this lame bs about the Earth creating the Blue and Sleepers to wipe out the humans because humans bad lol.

It was an entertaining show at first with decent action, good post-apocalyptic sci-fi vibes and what seemed like a nice mystery waiting to unfold. You could really feel that humanity was fighting a losing battle and a great deal of dread as nothing kept going the way the sleeper retrieval squad wanted and they kept losing comrades while escorting Yuji as each Blue attacks intensified. It was really intriguing to wonder how this all came to be, why Second Earth would launch such a massive operation just to get the sleepers/how would they help defeat the Blue, how much has being stuck in space changed human behavior, what type of sketchy stuff was going on up there, etc.

Shame that it all turned out to be so underwhelming. The mystery was gone and in place was mediocrity.

Lol i am really surprised how there are so many people out there lack comprehensive, the ability for critical thinking and relatability. Most of them complete misunderstand or didn't even get it to begin with what the author trying to convey LOL. I have to say the ending caught me off guard too and appears to happened due to convenience that they needed to end the show somehow. However, after seeing someone did an analysis and explained his point of view, the ending make perfect sense to me. Althought, it may seem a bit rushed as the pacing throughout the series was relately slow and the ending concluded in mere seconds.

For those who did not understand and think you might have wasted your time on this series. Look up BlueGenderLove Posted: Sun Dec 03, 2023 1:56 am on Animenewsnetwork and you will get the whole meaning of the show. You are welcome! Kudos to this lad that explained it well.

Well this was better than some of the modern crap of today. Earth hit the reset button so all blue and second earth went boom.

One day Earth will hit the reset button again.

We are all doomed. Overall 7/10

I think the ending was rushed. If it was the suicide genes (which its most likely but I wonder how they affect people who lack B-cells and they are in the space) who made everyone to kill Seno (he did nothing wrong, remaining on the colony and seeking out other planets to live on, which is a perfectly reasonable argument at this point and would leave the planet alone, sparing it from further harm) and destroy themselves in just seconds, it makes no sense considering what I mentioned. Even I like if it was 2nd Earth's karma after they left the people on the ground to fend for themselves, people on Earth has very little stuff to survive in the future without technology but considering how technophobe the ending is, I'm not really surprised lol. I like how some things very clearly inspired by Evangelion.

Thank god this shit is over. This show had so much potential at the beginning and the first half of the show was pretty good. Once Yuji got taken by the government, however, this show became so ass.

It's really rare that a show becomes this boring after a solid start, like it wasn't even really all that bad, just boring. All of the conflicts were so straightforward and dull because the characters have barely any personality.

Even Marlene and Yuji's relationship, which was a very strong part of the first half of this show becomes so fucking generic because Merlene loses every single bit of her edge, and just becomes a fucking doll that says Yuji. Yuji sucks as well, because instead of being a dumbass from the past, he turns into generic anime protagonist after somehow overcoming the evil inducing blue cells.

Naively, I believed this show might be on par with something like Elfen Lied, not great but entertaining at the very least. Instead, it feels like a really shitty Michael Bay ripoff, and that's bad.

Yuji going into the light and seeing the world's past and present is interesting. I'm sad that he didn't explain to Marlene and us about what exactly happened, but he came back to Marlene like he said. So I'll be happy about the happy ending for the two of them.

Seno Miyagi on the other hand got lit up by his soldiers! I guess low resources, the depressing space ship environment, and no goal caused the second earth inhabitants to lose it... Well that's a tragic end for everyone up there.

Overall, I enjoyed my time watching this series. The character development was pretty good, and even through all the sacrifices and loss of life. There was a decent romance present.

My favorite parts would be the dubbed intro and outro, which is a delightful feature of these old school shows. Marlene going against and sneaking through the entire space station solo to rescue Yuji, and I also liked how Marlene and Yuji's character arcs mirrored each other when Yuji's B Cells were driving him mad. I liked how raspy he got, unless the mechs voice filter had me imagine it.

Lastly three supporting pivotal characters shared the same VA, and I think he did a good job making them sound distinct from one another. Props to Kyle Hebert for that.
