The episode was pretty good for a build-up episode, leagues better than season 2 episode 10 that's for sure. But did they really have to focus on Fortuna's vagina??? I mean I like pussy as much as anyone but I was getting emotional there, and the camera focusing at her yoga pants took me right out of it. Like, my girlfriend watches this shit with me bruh.

Hoping they change that in BD like how they made Emilia's boobs smaller. If I wanted Re:Zero hentai I'd just search it.

That is fine but don't come to judge the anime for changes made in the LN for starters.

LN is the official/canon version, if you are going to blame someone is the author himself.

WN readers have story in this fandom of not being able to judge the context of the changes, just the changes themselves.

So you're stripping my opinion of the anime away because it doesn't adapt the WN? Alright.

Can sombody give me a good summary link of everything that happened till now?

I watched every episode but I'm very confused. It's not a easy anime for me.

I don't understand the purpose of the story right now.

One of my good friends made this summary of cour 1, make sure to comment a thank you for him, he'd appreciate it :)

Thanks for the reddit post link. It's decent. But I'm still confused. Anybody got a good youtube link for me?

I see... I just went back to the WN to see what was changed. It's fundamentaly similar, just worded differently because they've been translated by different people. At the very least, I personally find both the WN and LN versions of that scene to be structured the same.

Here's both WTC's and TranslationChicken's versions for comparison. They are the two most popular WN translations out there.

It's nice seeing Otto turning into an actual character with a cool personality instead of being that one cowardly selfish guy. I'd say he's very likable so far! even though the transition from crybaby to caring friend was kinda rough.

I may just need a revision on the previous events but I actually find it quite challenging to keep up with what's happening. Me being a terrible viewer could be a valid reason for my confusion but I'd say the pacing of this episode didn't exactly help either. I'm especially referring to that Roswall bet thing. I actually just didn't understand why he did that or what does that even do, so yeah if anyone is down to help me understand, it would be much appreciated.

Also, I love what they are doing with Emilia, giving her a lot more character and the attention she deserves.(Paku <3)

Emilia was SO cute this episode like omg fr I was kinda freaking out and Emilia as a TODDLER wtf cuteness overload.

I didn't read the LN and I can barely remember what the WN version looked like since I the first half of Arc IV (WN) in 2018 when I had a burn out because of school and job, so I can't really say Satella's emphasis was better in the LN or not, especially with the anime that cut a ton of content in ep 13.

I usually just inform myself of the LN changes after I notice some change in the scenes from the anime. I don't want to be "that guy" who complains because the anime is a poor WN adaptation when it's a LN adaptation in reality.

I'd be curious to know what changed with Satella in the LN though.

I see.
In the LN,

Here is the scene:-

i respect and understand where you're coming from, but didn't LN version of Arc 4 skipped that one interlude chapter, the aftermatch of the witch's tea party?

it's one of my favourite chapters, it would suck if that got removed.

S2 is one of ReZero is just one of those seasons where you have to pay extra attention

Now regarding Rosewaal and Subaru's bet, is pretty simple, Subaru made a bet against Rosewaal that if he clears all the obstacles in the sanctuary in one loop, Rosewaal would have to throw away his 'gospel' and ally himself with him by Backing up Emilia as the candidate for the royal election.

Now 3 major concerns can be brought up

1. What does Rosewaal gain from accepting the bet?
2. What's stopping Rosewaal from backstabbing Subaru and going against the bet on the off chance he loses?
3. is there even a point in making a bet, if Subaru can go back in time and try again? Only Subaru can Remember his memories from his past loops, not Rosewaal.

They'll be addressed later on

Question, was there an OVA about Emilia's past that I should have seen before watching this episode? Also, nearly 30 minutes and still no space for opening or ending?

There is an Emilia OVA with movie length called Frozen Bonds, this episode shows direct scenes from that OVA, for example you would have already know that Emilia does not remember her past watching the OVA and a little about what happened in the forest.

It is not obligatory but it gives you SO MUCH background to understand Emilia and Puck better.

I'll be sure to watch that then.

Okkk I see thanks a lot. Also, why would Subaru need to bet with Rosewaal at a time like that? I mean we know now that Emilia's election matters to supposedly thaw her family and stuff but Subaru didn't know that at the time right? Why was her election the first thing that concerned Subaru after talking with Otto? I'm basicly just asking more general questions now so no need to answer them really if the contain any spoilers for the episodes to come.

Anyways thanks again for replying

He was about to choke Emilia too???

Also, Otto is best boy as usual.

Wait a minute, what did Subaru do differently in the WN? Just how different is the anime adaptation of arc 4 and the original WN version?

its a difference that s a spoiler for current cour 2 in itself so open this only if you dont mind that and are willing to risk that.
As for general differences, there s a lot of scenes that got rearranged for better pacing, and some other stuff like:

np

Subaru wanted Emilia to become the ruler since a long time ago, He made that clear back in Season 1, When Crusch invited him to join her camp.

The reason why? Because he loves Emilia, hence wanting to help her out in achieveing her dream of wanting equality, since subaru has seen the kind of treatment Half Elfs get around luginica.

Few seconds into the episode and Subaru is already taking a beating from best boi Otto lol.

The moment where Puck left Emilia was really sad to see, and it seems like her memories that were sealed are coming back.

I'm really looking forward to what the second half of season 2 is going to give us!

The bet is quite simple.

If Subaru manages to solve problems in the Sanctuary, save people at the mansion and deal with the Great Rabbit without anyone dying, Roswaal will destroy his copy of the Book of Wisdom and become Subaru's ally.

If he fails to do so, in the next loop he will do everything as Roswaal desires.

Emilia was SO cute this episode like omg fr I was kinda freaking out and Emilia as a TODDLER wtf cuteness overload.

Subaru offered the bet so that if he saves both the Sanctuary AND the mansion in one loop, Roswaal will drop the Gospel and join their side. Roswaal accepted it saying "It wouldn't be a bad idea to make preparations for the next me...", meaning he has something in mind. It's implied in the scene that if Subaru fails now, he will do things Roswaal's way (aka prioritize one thing and one thing only, which is Emilia, and become Roswaal's perfect puppet to get Emilia to the throne).

Otto giving some beating up for Subaru to wake up and trust his friend...

Just love to hear "Straight Bet" when Subaru made a deal with Roswaal...
The episode title was also Straight Bet... (Totally not coincidence) lol

Finally learn some information about Ryuzu...

We got some little piece of Emilia backstory... Little Emilia was cute..
So we have learned what the truth about Emilia motivation is...

And Puck no... Why 😭

Why Subaru? She asked you to hold her hand till morning yet you go somewhere else... Jesus Christ Subaru...

The anime skipped that part but in the LN Roswaal asks what would stop him [Subaru] from not obeying the bet in the next loop (since he would be the only one to remember it). Subaru answers that he is not that kind of man to do something like that.

for the most part

it's really not that hard lol.

Garf wants the sanctuary to be freed so he's holding the villager's hostage, in the first loop he was fine with Subaru taking on Emilia's trial, in the second one, however, he's hostile towards him due to the witch's scent, yet in the later loop, he acts all friendly towards Subaru.

Echidna then mentions, how Garfiel is actually scared of the outside world

it's heavily implied, that it's actually Ryuzu Shima who's heavily involved in his decision making and him being able to smell the Witch's scent is just a bluff.

in the new episode we learn

Frederica and Garf's mother left both them in the sanctuary as kids, This was the past he saw when he attempted the trail for the first time and since he didn't pass, it must mean that facing his past could've been pretty traumatic.

Subaru then comes to the conclusion that Garfiel is opposed to liberating the sanctuary because of his bitterness towards his mother for abandoning them and leaving for the outside world, but if that were the case why does he keep his mother's family name?

Rosewaal's goal, whatever it is, has been shown to us in bits and pieces

in S1, it was mentioned that he wanted to kill the divine dragon.

in S2, Ep 13, he mentions however since 400 years ago he's been enchanted by 'those eyes'

We also know whatever his goal is requires Subaru to throw away his humanity, so he can only protect one and one person alone, Emilia.

The Witches aren't trying to do anything really, aside from Echidna, who was mainly interested in Subaru due to his RBD ability, which could satisfy her endless curiosity, even though she wanted to trick him into forming a contract, a certain part of her wanted Subaru to reject his as well, possibly because she started to grow attached to him, which is why she did not do anything regarding the other witches who showed up opposing Echidna from exploiting Subaru.

Oh god thank you so much for this comment. I've forgotten a lot of things in the past 3 months.

So in short, Garf is a sad boy with a sad past. Honestly, his on and off attitude has really been confusing me. Then what's Shima trying to achieve by using Garf like that and making him hostile towards Subaru?

For Ros, so far no one fully knows his goal (because it hasn't been revealed) so I'm not the weird one for not getting his intentions lol.

And the witches except for Echidna are just a bunch of waifus that are just there with no direct relevance to the main story?

I can't even recall last time I hated an anime so much and I've seen way too many! This anime had potential,it truly did!
First season was great and I think I have it a 10/10 . But then, all went in a bad direction. Last season was so rushed that I ended up not understanding half of what was happening. Now, I know many people have suggested mentor rewatch same episodes 2-3 times but when talking about anime I'm not expecting to study quantum mechanics, but just to chill and enjoy it. I was hoping this second part would clear out the mess of the first part but it got worse. A lot of you folks won't agree at all with me,but anyone has his own reason for watching anime. Mine is to relax after a tiring day at work, yours is to solve mysteries or to get confused so truly understanding. I truly hope another studio picks it up as white fox totally suck at what they're doing.

If you only watch anime for shallow entertainment how can you use the word hate? Such a strong word if all you’re there is for some simple fun. S1 didn’t even hand hold that much so I don’t get why the end of the prologue and the actual beginning of the story would be hand hold-y either. The shows isn’t going to make everything obvious, and if ur not willing to pay attention, how can u hate it for not babying you? That’s legit all Ur complaining about, u don’t understand it. Isn’t that a “you” problem? Cuz It’s NOT that hard to get lol.

Anyway, WF should keep the series but also get help like s1 maybe. S3 , if they decide to work on it, would be more difficult as it’s less wordy and more fighty. Nevertheless, they should keep re zero cuz no other studio is willing to cut their OPs and EDs for more content & push so hard for the series. Also, I doubt Tappei would risk his series falling into the wrong hands. He gets along with WF very well, clearly.

for the most part

it's really not that hard lol.

>Then what's Shima trying to achieve by using Garf like that and making him hostile towards Subaru

You'll get your answers as you progress through the second cour.

>For Ros, so far no one fully knows his goal (because it hasn't been revealed) so I'm not the weird one for not getting his intentions lol.

Well obv you don't know what he actually wants, but we know that he needs Subaru for his plan to work, that's what i was pointing out.

>And the witches except for Echidna are just a bunch of waifus that are just there with no direct relevance to the main story?

What do you mean they're a bunch of Waifus? they're well-written characters, introduced in the show because they had a part to play in the destruction they caused more than 400 years ago. Daphne, for example, created the 3 great Mabeasts, and one of them is already dealt with and the other is in Season 2.

If you're asking about whether they'll have a bigger part to play in the main story in the future, then yes, according to the author.

Not really, Subaru can still RBD, nothing has been explicitly stated that the bet is somehow permanent.
The anime skipped that part but in the LN Roswaal asks what would stop him [Subaru] from not obeying the bet in the next loop (since he would be the only one to remember it). Subaru answers that he is not that kind of man to do something like that.

I doubt that Subaru would ever keep his word especially when it involves Beatrice and Rem.

God damn 28 minutes. Guess we sticking with long ass episodes with no OP or ED for the second half as well. Amazing how fuzzy I was on so many details. I had to go read all the summaries on wikipedia lol. Well so far looking pretty good.

The thing about Subaru doing what Roswaal wants if he fails was way too vague in the anime. It made no sense for Roswaal to accept it without knowing what he could gain out of it.

Yeah it was very much vague, I agree with you there. The anime sped past that whole chapter (among others). Although do keep an eye on Roswaal's "It isn't a bad idea to make preparations for the next me" line. He has his own motives for accepting the bet.

7 is not an insulting score for any series, period. At least, it doesn't make you a "hater" since you'd only give it to something you enjoyed.

ıt is pretty insulting if you give bunch of trash animes 10/10 and re:zero 6/10.

Yes im talking about you :)
Maybe I don't think episode 1 was that great? I gave previous seasons a better score lol. don't be salty about scores on my anime list regardless.

Very nice first episode, got me hooked on from the abrupt beginning. Still a little confused and unknown about the whole situation with Garfield and the Ryuzu which was kicked out for breaking the contract. I can't tell which Ryuzu is which lmao and can Roswaal remember all the previous occurances when Subaru uses return by death? He mentoined ' I didn't expect to see you AGAIN in this life' so does that mean he remembers what happened in a different return by death instance?

There are 4 Main Ryuzu Copies

The first one we meet in Episode 5 is Ryuzu Bilma, the one Subaru talks to here is Ryuzu Arma. Ryuzu Shima is the one wearing a white clothing instead of black and is also the one that is against the liberation of the Sanctuary, she and Garfiel were the ones who captured Subaru in Episode 7 because he was suspicious. She has been removed frim the Supervisor role since she broke the contract bestowed to her by Echidna by entering the tomb, she entered the tomb since Garfiel took the trials and didn't come out so Shima had to go in to take him out. There is also one more Ryuzu but has not been introduced yet.

Roswaal cannot remember other loops, when he said he doesn't expect to see Subaru again is because he thought Subaru abandoned the current loop and went into a new one, Roswaal is aware Subaru can reset but he doesn't know it's through death.

He was about to choke Emilia too???

lol how did i forget this part , man straight up thought of choking her ahhahha

So Puck wasn't answering any summons to come back, Subaru had to force him back. The only way known to Subaru would be to make Puck enforce the contract of protecting Emilia, what's the quickest way to show intent to harm without actually hurting Emilia? Slowly act like you're going to choke her. Nice and logical.

Yeah it's logical but choking isn't exactly the best thing that comes to his mind first lol. Aside from that that scene was a lot weak on the part of puck , that he could still hear subaru's calls but he gotta do all that show of freezing/ hurting him to come out anyway for the benefit of emilia, shaked up the respect for him a bit.
