I'm pretty sure both are serious. If I'm wrong then that's only good so yeah I hope I'm wrong. As much as I love perfect women I can't imagine someone holding up all women to this standard. Plus the way he said(typed) it sounded a bit over the top. You obviously haven't seen SSW's other threads. I make it obvious what's silly hyperbole and what's my serious opinion... people on MAL just can't take my sense of humor Do you? It's kind of hard to differentiate between your 'honest' opinions and hyperbole when you 'honestly' encourage/endorse some of the things you've talked about across the forums. What have I honestly endorsed that was so bad? |

I voted yes, but I find most media objectifies women. Though it feels different in anime. In anime it feels more like it comes from deep seeded roots in tradition. Stay at home wife and a salary man husband. |

I think we need to make the distinction between casual flattery and objectifying to the point of insulting. Or rather, recognize this is a medium selling looks, but at what point does the selling become too much. Whichever. Writing quality also plays a part in this, since a poorly realized character will just come across as a collection of desirable traits and little else, while you can very well have a sexy, classy and still well-written lead (Kuroyukihime from Accel World comes to mind), where the appearance is part of them instead of the other way around. |

Just because I like killing people in Grand Theft Auto, doesn't mean I want to go kill people in real life. That's just silly, and it's the same thing here. These people also don't want to kill others. |

Milk_is_Special said: Saying that anime objectifies women is just as bad as saying that shooting games make you violent. Yeah... no. It's the same as saying shooting games ARE violent. Which is true. How/If that influences people is another question, but shooting games ARE violent and a lot of anime ARE sexist/objectifiying women. There's a whole fandom based around that objectification (or what else would you call dakimakuras for example? A literal objectification of a lot of the female characters in anime.) Japan as a whole is a fairly sexist society so it's not surprising either. |
I probably regret this post by now. |

Anime objectifies both men and women. I have contacted a feminist group and they are writing a letter to AT (Akira Toriyama) addressing the objectification of men in DBZ. AT should be drawing morbidly obese and super thin men saving the world not muscular guys who usually have their shirts off. |

AnimeSweden said: Bombs have one purpose, guns do not. Yes, I would always make the case that teaching and understanding is the best solution because no solution is 100%, it's about picking the best one. In the specific case you brought up the mother should have never been sold the gun if she didn't know how to store it properly and clearly wasn't aware of where the gun was at all times like you're suppose to be as taught by gun safety. The thing about outlawing guns for those who don't have reason to own one is that everyone has a very legitimate reason to own them, self defense.
