I've never both gotten goosebumps and left feeling just at a loss of words after an episode of anime. This is the pinnacle not just of anime but of a story in general. I was getting the naked and boiling rage of Pyscho Pass, the horror of the Red Wedding and the satisfaction of revenge after from Game of Thrones, or the despair of death loops in Stein's Gate.

I generally didn't like the twins either but seeing her twin sacrifice herself and give her power to make Maki stronger and then just see a visual representation of the rage, the rage of her dad killing her sister, the rage of the family being ostracized, of that trash speed dude I learned to hate in just one movie- everything felt right. The black and white, the pure power of Toji reincarnated, the utter satisfaction and bloodiness of Kill Bill but in peak anime form. It was so violent and yet so peaceful. The world had been made right. The evil, arrogant, and cruel family members ERASED.

I don't think any anime, or story in general can beat this sad unfortunate series of events that led to this satisfying emotional conclusion. Call me vengeful. Call me wrath. Call me Maki.

This is the pinnacle of Shouta Goshozono so far. For me, at least. Peak perfection. Pristine direction. And, as expected, what we had expected from him after he announced that he was immensely excited to adapt Maki's arc. Even in Season 1, we had already seen a glimpse of his love for the character in episode 17, and here as well, we can clearly see his love for Maki and Mai.

What a beautiful episode. Painful and sad. Mai might not have the screentime that fans might have wanted for the character, but she very heavily impacted her sister and her life going forward. Maki is my favourite character in the series, and I'm grateful that the director also loves her this much. This part was a very tough and painful read in the manga, and it was just as sad watching it here. I cried.

I have waited years for this content to be adapted, and I have no complaints whatsoever. I'm very grateful to all the staff involved in this episode, and all their hard work, making this the best episode of the series. I love both of you, Maki and Mai.
@Pre_Yum "Casual fans won't like it"
well, that's obvious... If you watch a well animated fighting shonen, you want to see well animated fights, not unnecessary texts and explanations that don't matter.

If someone wants to see interesting and well structured dialogue, they will find anime with those qualities, but Jujutsu is obviously not one of them.

I was eagerly waiting for this episode and it didn't disappoint. It's great to see the Zen'in clan be destroyed, these jerks deserved it.
The twins' story was tragic (cried too much 💔), even though I wasn't a fan of Mai, she shouldn't have died there... "You're me, and I'm you", them against the world
Crazy animation the whole episode, it was amazing 👏

The absolute state of battle shonen writing... Like, where was any of this backstory in previous seasons? They forced so much information regarding Mai and Maki's past into one episode. This was such a strange way to invoke some sort of emotion and it fell flat so dismally. Also, where did that immense power-up come from?!

It's extremely difficult to convey how unimpressive and mediocre this directing style feels if you're not sensible to it.

I do not care about endless Yutapon, I am indifferent about changing aspect ratio and having trillion speed lines each and every cut and I especially despise characters being off model for about 99% of shots during the episode. I genuinely feels like JJK has now become an excuse for key animators to do experimental projects under the illusion of animating big shonen fights but if you put this side by side with any fight in season1, it is legit not the same show from any possible metric and I don't know if you can even argue with this.

Offing a bunch of irrelevant side characters that were just introduced aside, I loved Naoya and that first scene of him slowly slamming his leg onto a piano is by far one of the funniest shit I've ever seen in terms of characterization, it's simply perfect. Unfortunately, he jobbed like a bitch barely 3 eps after being introduced and if that's not a waste of character I don't even know what would be, which is pretty in line with JJK to be honest. If basic shock value was a currency, Jujutsu Kaisen would be the richest property alive.

Akutami will never make me care about Maki nor Mai no matter what terminally ill online lesbian fangirls on twitter will say about their supposed (inexistant) depth but ohohoh let's not get too risky I wouldn't risky a ban for spewing truth like that.

The lack of directing really hurts this series, even with stronger animation the episodes feel underwhelming.
They should really replace Goshozono with someone else.

The only thing that made me slightly disappointed in ep4 is that Maki didn't torture those pieces of shits before killing them, especially her father. I wished he completely realised he lost against the failure he thought about. And about what happened in the beginning of the episode, it wasn't 18+ right??
@AishaBi Yep, that was a 18+ glimpse. For that only Naoya deserved his fate - in Maki's place I would fed him with his own balls though that broken face of his... He was an absolute garbage. So yeah, agreed - the clan members had a merciful fast end instead of the torture they would have deserved. (I'm surprised nobody else seems to have noticed that blurred scene...)

Maki this episode basically

What a badass lady.

Rip Mai, she was a great loving sister and gave her everything for maki. The studio did absoloute justice to that scene from the colors to the meloncholic ost. It just fit perfectly for the bonding and love between the two sisters.

I loved this little detail with the toji imagery. that was just chills.

Maki did absoloute justice to mai with that absoloute massacre she ensued after and Naoya just got obiliterated holy shit.

That fight was Cinema, absoloute fcking cinema. Bone crushing i might say.

Also then giving her mother the treatment she deserves and then the mother delivering that Poetic justice to Naoya with knife in the back was just peak.

"Backstabbing women who cant stand three steps back behind a man" huh naoya? Rest not in peace you 24 Frame per second Bozo. Tojis laughing at you from somewhere.

What an episode, pure justice to the manga. Kudos mappa for cooking this hard.

@airisu7425 What tf are you talking about? That scene at the beginning of the episode where Naoya talks to Maki and that scene shown from afar is a scene from the past where he "trained" Maki, meaning he beat her ass and, as usual, trash-talked her while holding his foot on her. There was no 18+ glimpse there. XD This is this scene The studio showed it from a different perspective :

Idc about jjk, I care about Maki zenin. We LOVE seeing misogynistic traditionalist men and families destroyed. Someone revive the zenin family and kill them again please.

“What’re you going to do now?” Talk that shit now Naoya 🤣 rest in piss. They even threw a kill bill reference in to make this episode even better. Perfection.

“The looks you had going for you are ruined now” and she literally got hotter?? The irony of Naoya being killed by a woman, stabbed in the back, a callback to some of his earlier misogynistic statements… perfect. What’s even funnier is that Toji and Maki are basically the same sort of person but Naoya was too misogynistic to appreciate Maki, while he worshiped Toji lol.

@Desmascarado Even watching the episode, if you pause it at this point, you can see Naoya standing and holding his foot on Maki's head, it's not super clear but you can see it, so I really don't know where you got this 18+ scene I would post a picture but I can't upload it lol

@Jollyne7 As I clearly stated, the scene was done that way to give that impression. If you've read the manga, it's obvious you won't see it that way.

@Desmascarado @Jollyne7 Then why did they blur it and Maki's voice acting was also suggesting. Or I just hate Naoya so much that I can imagine the worst of him. And I don't read the manga, I'm anime only - it looked like that for me anyway.

Great ep

Ambitous direction. Art direction and animation was spectacular.

Ogi took Maki out mad fast.

Mai was real asf for giving up her life to make Maki realize her true strength and to create a replica of toji's sword.

LMAO, Ogi wasn't ready for the true demon Maki, just like he wasn't ready Toji.

Maki vs the Zenin Clan was breathtaking, cinematic, and quick.

Nah, that Maki slide was funny asl, but that one inch punch was lit.

Goofy thought Jinichi won, he ain't know bro was a easy pack for Maki :)

Maki vs Naoya was elite and that final punch was so fucking satisfying.

It was funny asl as Maki looked for her mother, tho I thought it was poetic that Maki let her live to somehow finish Naoya. Bro talked all that bs in ep1 about how a woman should be 3 steps behind a man and must be stabbed in the back if she can't follow that rule. Tho, karma a bitch, so he died by the same rules that he upholds bc of his traditional values and misogyny towards women.

It was only then, that Maki made her rude mother proud, huh.

Ngl, if this ep had better flow, it would have been a 10 for me. It felt too fast in what it tried to convey thru the transitions and that hurt my enjoyment. Sucks some great panels weren't adapted, but ig that's creative liberties, lol.

This ep adapted ch 148-152

So that just happened.
Cool that Maki is basically Toji 2.0 now.
Hate that Mai had to die for it to happen tho.
Also not entirely sure how I feel about Maki going full Itachi Uchiha on her clan.
I mean sure, her parents, especially her father, 100% deserved it considering what they did/let happen to their own daughters.
And sure there were some others in the clan who were in on the plan and had it coming too.
But everyone? Even those who weren't even present?
That's a bit overkill for my taste.
Also kinda feels like the plot is all over the place atm...

Banger ep, but I feel like this whole season is moving too fast, and skipping things, no? All connection to Mai is in season 1, and it feels like there should have been much more story and dialogue from her right before her death. The previous seasons were much more explanatory and had more cohesive stories. Is the manga also this fast paced in this arc?
@Bongoblaster It's been a while since I've read the manga, but a lot of these events up to this point occur very quickly in the manga, similarly to how it has been released. As for Mai from what I remember it was just something that was pushed aside up until this point essentially. A lot happens in this particular arc.
