Wow, that was hype! The speech was as awkward as it was great, lol. Reinhard and Otto at the end were the bow on this gift. This is going to be a great fight; the little boy and girl made me a little emotional, poor kids.

Btw, here's a brightened-up image of Al's eyes from Twitter.

If you've watched the last 2 Break Time episodes, you might see some significance here and with the title of this episode.

So, I guess this will be the checkpoint. Was a great character development for Subaru making that speech.
But would be funny if Subaru returned to the beginning of the day.
@BlichoBoy naw im thinkinging he might not die till the next arc. Hard to believe i know. But its been a while since i read it. But he does dies alotALOT in the next.

Borderline a filler episode. They discussed half the episode who was going to deliver the speech and the other half was the speech itself which was... whiny? Really did not touch me. Especially if I was covering in a cellar with maebeast scratching at the door.

But alright, character growth and all of that accomplished, everything is great (unless your first name is Crush). Also, we are deep within safe state territory - no way they are going to undo all of this.

Al butchering an entire witche's cult outpost and keeping quiet about it was as impressive as it was fishy as well as many of the lines he delivered this episode. Seems like he and Priscilla are indeed the ones playing both sides and Subaru's progress is not what they wanted. Maybe they are the ones in controll of the tower that created the convenient flood?

Since the part of Cruch's face that was shown this episode didn't look any different, I'm guessing all Dragon-girl did to her is give Crusch a mole.

In earlier seasons you sometimes feel that Subaru just kinda sucks as a character. You can feel that you'd do better then he would. Especially in season 1. In this episode however... only Natsuki Subaru could do a speech like this.

A show of how much he has grown as a character and one of the biggest highlights of Re:Zero so far in both the show and the books.

The episode felt too empty; almost nothing happened. We just had to sit through Subaru’s long, meaningless, and boring speech. From the start, I’ve felt that the worst parts of ReZero are the boring, unnecessarily long speeches.

@Ionliosite2 Bro, did you watch all the episodes in 2x speed? The speech was given because the wrath's authority was messing with the people's emotions. I doubt you even cared to listen what wrath's authority do but a I will give you a brief explanation.

Wrath's authority has the ability to link everyone's emotions( and physical body to some extent ). This means the emotions are shared from one person to another thus amplifying it's effect. But sirius has no control over the emotion that can be amplified. Because the civilians were getting angry and agitated, emotion was getting shared among each others and at the same time the emotion was amplified. This caused everyone in the shelter to beat the shit out of each other. If these negative emotions were not stopped it's not the witchcult but the people themselves will start killing each other.

That is why they came up with the idea of a speech. It was to turn wrath's authority on it's head and instead use it as a power to amplify people's positive emotions and give them confidence.
@Rudivard I watched it a 1x speed, and I know what Wrath's authority does (they have explained it like thrice at this point), that doesn't mean the speech was good or that it was inspirational.

Good God Almighty bro, that was fucking amazing. That speech got me crying, Subaru got me crying, it felt like everything Subaru went through so far is all build up for this moment, God man.

Then I saw that the episode was 29 minutes and 29 seconds, we are so back once again. 30 minutes of just talking and it was fucking peak.

Subaru, Emilia, Garfiel, everyone's development is just absolutely wonderful. It's nice that we get to know more about the characters we haven't seen much before like Anastasia, she just seems so reliable, the dialect helps too, then also Al who is showing to be quite the mysterious character.

Lord, then that ending scene with Reinhard, fucking hype as hell. It's time for him to redeem himself in our eyes for failing in the previous loop, though not really his fault.

Sidenote, Emilia very cute, and I also want to be called a silly boy by Anastasia.

Second episode in a row that brought nothing to the table nor raised the stakes in any way. Do we seriously need 50 minutes of padding as a lead up? Whatever tension was there until episode 6, it's sailed now.
Yeah, the speech was great and took like 7 minutes. That's 7 minutes out of 29 - where did there rest go? Seriously, drama and development can and should be handled quicker and more decisively.
And psychofans in here will still repeat what they say in EVERY episode's discussion thread: "This is the best episode in all of anime!". Cringe af, you lot can't be taken seriously anymore.
@TheUnwiseWolf Yup. Cannot take 3/4 of the people in here seriously. "Best episode of anime this year" Seriously? The bar is exceedingly low.

@Ionliosite2 But isn't that subjective, what others find inspirational is not necessary that you will find too. You said that they were giving hope but not actually doing anything of substantial but that is the point, before the civilians start killing each other it was necessary to give them hope.

You may not like it, or find it cringe and it's okay. But that does not mean it was unnecessary.

I wouldn’t say this was the best episode of season 3, but Subaru’s speech was incredible. It really showed his character as he inspired others to keep moving forward. Extending the episode to 29 minutes was absolutely the right decision otherwise, the speech would have been cut short.

Ughhh honestly, this show just wrecks my brain! like how is it even POSSIBLE to absolutely adore the world-building, the designs, the characters, oh my gosh, there are SO many unique and amazing characters I can’t get enough of, but then just passionately despise the protagonist? Subaru drives me completely up the wall! I swear, I find everything about him unbearable and beyond annoying. like, okay, I get that some people thought his little speech at the end was all profound or whatever, but I just can’t stand him so much that I literally skipped the whole thing.

Talk about filler episode. Just standing around for a long time arguing about who should make a pep talk on the radio. Usually in this series, Subaru would have just done something like this right away, not spent half an episode discussing it.

And the Man of the People speech was also bad. "I'm just like you" on repeat, on and on. It is supposed to Subvert Expectations among the viewers, not being a speech about the strength of those who fight. "Wow, he turned the weakness into a strength, I've never seen THAT before!"

But there is a reason speeches like this in the real world don't HAMMER IN and PUT IN WORDS how afraid and weak the listeners are, but instead focus on how strong the fighters are and that help is on the way.

"I want to tell them that the girls I know look so much cuter when they're smiling!

Oh, for God's sake.... How is it a pep talk when he talks like a creep? A man in a Medieval world doesn't talk about how he lusts for several women. You wouldn't say that in our time either. It's just some otaku harem shiht.

In comparison to what they have been doing this episode was kind of slow, it was mostly just a speech, and there wasn't too many revelations or anything, but that's really it, it was just slow, still really fun, but in comparison to what we've had and whatever the hell is going to happen this wednesday, it's not quite as incredible.

@LongQuiet So the translator changed it to a generic anime comment. Protect her smile, I'm fighting for X's smile.

But if Subaru's real comment was "I know her smile is way cuter than that," then it doesn't really fit in, because he doesn't talk about a specific person before that. The sentence before that one is "I have precious friends!"

@Rasco Not the only one.

"But I can't run away, that's why I'm fighting. That's really all there is to me."

If you're in a crisis situation, don't tell people THAT. You should tell them that they are strong and help is on the way, not "I hate being here and we are all weak and not special but I guess I have to fight because I'm here."

They might have thought they were weak, but putting it in words has a great psychological effect. Especially if it comes from an authority figure evaluating them.

It has been shown that in the military, a drill instructor can say "Fight, goddamnit!" and things like that. That's okay. But if he says, "Fight you weak bastards!" that lowers performance. Then he's an authority figure who has judged them to be weak, and he has the experience to know. Then why make an effort when you know how low you are?

I'm sure we'll see how they're all roused to action by Subaru's speech. But in real life, that speech would give them an excuse to do nothing.

I was started to think this episode would be over-hyped from a lot of discussion I've seen surrounding the speech scene that happens during this episode, so I decided to try my best to keep my expectations low, but they ended up gradually being increased as I felt the shadow of the speech looming throughout the first half of the episode.

And then the speech happened, and being able to see Subaru's personality shine through was impressive, but as the speech continued, I found myself breaking into tears until I couldn't stop crying until the speech was finally over.

All of that is a long way of saying that this was an amazing, no- an incredible episode.

@Hegar Damn there hasn't been a single episode where Crunchyroll doesn't f-up some translations and drastically changes the nuances, but this episode got hurt the most by it due to being dialogue-heavy. I'm an anime-only so I don't know all the details in the source material, but here is what I interpreted from a more proper translation by Muse.

Hegar said:
"I guess I have to fight because I'm here."
Subaru actually said "Even so, I'm going to fight since I can't run away. That's just the sort of guy I am". This is a direct reference to what Rem told him in ss1 episode 18 "It's easy to give up. But it doesn't suit you." He knows he can't run away (from problems) without leaving behind the Subaru who Rem loves the most, who would face the challenges head-on for the people he cares about. Here he didn't "have to fight" because the role was forced onto him; on the contrary, he willingly chose to bear all the burden, to play the hero like he always has been doing despite being weak.

Hegar said:
Especially if it comes from an authority figure evaluating them.
Subaru wasn't trying to gain authority over the citizens and evaluating them from a high horse cuz his words would sound patronizing and fake. He in fact wanted to be on their level, a man of the people, to empathize with them so they can trust in what he believed should be the best to do because he was in their shoes.

Hegar said:
"Fight you weak bastards!"
No he literally told people not to take up arms but leave the fight to him and his comrades. He just asked them to believe in his winning chance and be hopeful (so the Archbishop of Wrath won't capitalize on their despair).

Hegar said:
he doesn't talk about a specific person before that.
็Ÿฅใฃใฆใ‚‹ใ“ใฎๅญใฎ็ฌ‘้ก” can be translated more literally as "The smile of this girl that I know". I think he specifically changed the subject to Emilia (part of ๅคงๅˆ‡ใชไบบ) now in this sentence.
