It's extreamly difficult to give an anime 10 for me, even for my all time favorites. No anime has done EXACTLY what I wanted it to and I definitely don't expect them to because nothing is perfect, and caters to my exact taste. Never the less, I just made an account here and just filled out some of my stats. The hights ranking animes for me so far are Psycho Pass and even, maybe, above that, Samurai Champloo! Now I'm quite new to the anime community and havent seen that much at all and I know there are so many more great ones out there. Too much anime too little time.

Well my first 2 anime, Toradora and Anohana, were both 10's in my opinion. Hence why I love slice-of-life anime so much.

And you haven't lowered them since? That's some impressive resolve or the animes in question have more staying power then I remembered.

Well they both kept me in love with slice-of-life, why not?

Also, I started anime in December of last year, so it hasn't been very long.

Ah I see. Will you lower them if the standard quality of anime you watch rises?

Maison Ikkoku, I rated it 10/10. This is also the point where I feel that i've become better at rating things, but re doing ratings is too much work.

A lot of people tend to have an "anime hangover" after finishing Hunter x Hunter, because it's that good :P I didn't have it myself though

The first one that I've rated a 10 is FMA B. Later on only Gintama, Gintama' and Hotaru no Haka made it.
And well, a favourite doesn't necessarily mean a masterpiece in my opinion.

Monogatari Series: Second Season. After Nadeko Medusa I knew this show was going to be 11/10.

Hell, this is the only show which made me to rewatch it after a week.
my thoughts exactly even though I have no idea how I became so hooked on monogatari I think it was around the time when I was starting to get back into anime and I just randomly clicked on it and read the summary then realized this was actually season 2 so I found season one watched the first episode, it was probably the most confusing thing I have ever seen in my life but I loved it

I think I gave toradora a 10 too its probably the most realistic romance/harem anime I have ever seen like he actually chose a girl they actually kissed there was an actual fight

Me as well. Never really cried on movies, stories, books even funeral... That might be going too far but you get the point. The thing I loved the most about this anime is that it gave me a new perspective on how life can turn out.. It's just beautiful.

It was either the first Hunter x Hunter series or Yu Yu Hakusho. I can't really remember atm but they are two of my favorite series, and I re-watch them both every few years. What I wouldn't give for a Yu Yu Hakusho remake!

Higurashi was my first 10 and will always be my fav.

@Theatro
Yup, you pretty much nailed it on the head to what Higurashi was to me. But by no means was it my first anime. You know Ryukishi07 is writing (and I think animating) a new series called "When the Fireflies Fly" which is after Umineko and talks about Higurashi and is another maze made by the witches. There is actually a character named Miyo Takano (or its spelled differently, since she's supposed to be a different chess piece, but still has her "conspiracy theories" notebook with her). The prologue is out for the manga, you should check it out. Also there is an epilogue story for Umineko that connects it to the prologue of this manga :D! I bet you will thoroughly enjoy this.

The first show I gave a ten is Cowboy Bebop. It's since been dethroned as my favorite anime, but to this day I still think it's a classic (also, it tends to be the show I use to introduce friends to anime. It has a western appeal).

Not a single one. Only tasteless millennials rating 10 solely on enjoyability or because "they cried" do that.
I can find flaws even in the best Ghibli and to get a 10, a workpiece got not only to be technically flawless but also have that timelessness which could make anyone relate. The title must be enough as a standalone. It mustn't pander to anyone's fantasy, be coherent with its thematics, have coherent world building, not have yet another nice premise thrown out, not hide its lazy writing with pseudo sense of mystery (plot holes which hinder full comprehension is never a mark of quality; subtlety in narration is), have flawless characterization (archetypes aren't a problem but one dimensional protagonists are) and get quality plot staging (fine production value: artwork, art direction for sceneries, artful angle of views), and benefit from fine chara design and sound of course.

It mustn't resort in excess to the following cop out Joker:
- the magic/paranormal element
- the alien scientific plot point (introducing technobabble and infodump)
- pseudo depth (never confuse for the sake of posing as a meaningful masterpiece! Rahxephon, anyone?)
- blurry symbolism (I am looking at you Evangelion)
- Surrealism

These last point don't exclude shows to be good. They just cannot be objectively perfect if they hack their way cheaply.

You must not be fun at parties, just answer the question *hint* He said close to a 10*
