I'm damn surprised that NO ONE ever thought that the anti-immigrant rally demonstrations are like the IRL Karens LOL, and Makoto is once again roped into the foreigners' mess, now backed by police and the G-Boys. (And sadly it's true in Japan that they don't take kindly to immigrants/foreigners, the irony...)

The culprits while hard to pinpoint, they do take swift action, and both the police and G-Boys (well, at least for Makoto) do have some challenge tracking them down. And while it does not take long for them to find that connection, Shadow appearing for Makoto's bidding is a sweet touch.

However, it immediately becomes apparent that the Kansai organization has been eyeing Ikebukuro since the very beginning, and what a roundabout approach to link the main case altogether.

What this episode does great is in its own storyline of marginalization, because the source material is SO dated that the scriptwriters have to innovate and keep the content as modern as they can, and this is a good alternative to displaying the manga's outdated content (which was kinda hit and miss these past 3/4 of the series).

@z00nex well, really have to agree, since all the connection so far is led back to Episode 1 and the foreshadowing.

Ep 9 PSA: Xenophobia. PSYCHE. Gentrification.

The adopted sister basically vanished from existence until this episode where her status as a Chinese immigrant is related to the plot. I thought having a new member in the family would be explored somewhat with Makoto but no... the writers only drag her out when it's related to the PSA of the week.

That little hint that the end that all the shit starting from the drug PSA in ep 1 is actually interconnected?? I will be so amazed if this show can pull together some semblance of a cohesive plot.

Nice episode. Japan irl really needs manpower, their general population is aging.

There don't need to appear Gou in episodes 6,8

Honestly, it was being a rather boring episode until Shadow showed up. It was nice to see Guo again... though her re-appearing was only because her status as Chinese immigrant was relevant to the current narrative. Until this episode, she was pretty much non-existent.

Makoto's mom shows up constantly just to chat with his friends, despite the fact she's hardly ever relevant to the plot. We need little moments like that to show another side to the main character. Adoption is a big deal. This show should have incorporated Gou more into Makoto's casual home life - chilling alongside his mom or something. If feels like the writers didn't want to bother with her existence after she was adopted until this episode where it had something to do with Chinese immigration again. Now that she's literally a member of his family, she should be more than just a plot convenience.

This episode, I wont lie was a little confusing. Getting to know all the connections and the gang that was behind the acts of another gang and people are being attacked and controlled. Th Chinese and Japanese misunderstandings. Kansai organization having a close eye on Ikebukoro from the very beginning and all that. Absorbing all that was a little heavy.

Didn't expect Shadow to reappear and fight in broad daylight, probably because of his badassery but I really get hyped when I see him. I wish Guo would appear more often like Makoto's mom does rather than only in episodes where she's relevant to the plot.
