That would require me to have kids in the first place. However, in the unlikely event that that actually happens, no.

Ok that is the most weeb thing you can possibly do. If you're actually japanese I guess it's ok, but if you're not then you just seem like a childish loser

No. I don't think so. Mostly because many Anime characters have japanese names and I'm not japanese. This would be kinda weird.

To me, it would depend on the commonplaceness of the name and the situation, but I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility.

For example, I think Taiga is a nice name and it's commonplace enough that people might not know it's from Toradora! Not to mention there's a male version of that name pronounced the same way, spelled Tadhg (which obviously isn't Japanese, though).

Honestly, having kids is so far away (I don't even have a girlfriend) that I don't think about it.

Of course, you have to think of the kids.

When I was like 6 I wanted to have two boys and two girls and name them Goku, Gohan, Chichi, and Bulma. Nowadays? I don't want kids. But if I ever get cats or dogs or something I could see myself naming them after animu characters (not Dragon Ball chars tho..).

I'm absolutely flabbergasted that a topic I made a decade ago has posts on it this year...
I now have a child and his name is Jax. Named after the mortal kombat character hahaha. I like the name. It's nothing really to do with the character just the inspiration for the name.

well.. I will present my shameful weeb desires.. but I thought the name Midori was actually kind of lovely.. but it basically means GREEN in japanese and there is a liquor called midori.. So that name would not be acceptable anywhere.. also, the anime character is kind of ... not somone anybody would aspire to be.

Giving your child an unusual name, especially one based on a fictional character, is a surefire way to ruin their life. You would have to be tremendously stupid to think that a few minutes of laughs while you write out the birth certificate is worth subjecting your child to a future of bullying and extreme difficulty with finding a job.

I don't plan on having children. But if I did, I would probably name them after an anime character but a character with an English name so it wouldn't seem weird. For example, Sebastian (Black Butler), Alice (Pandora Hearts)...

Giving them a Japanese name would be very odd unless their father was Japanese.

Not after an anime, but maybe a decent asian inspired name I live in the USA and i've seen many people with non euro-inspired names. I personally don't understand why we have to be held back with european based names.

Stuff like Rin, Aki, Jin, Kane, Kumi, Mai dont sound that bad and a few of these I've seen people have of non-japanese descent.

Sure, why not. There are only two names I like to imagine naming a son, Marco (One Piece) and Aren (Saiki Kusuo no Psy Nan) but that would require I actually have kids, so this will sadly not be happening.

Guess I'll settle with dogs.

Well, me my self actually has several japanese and korean name since I wrote teenlit and such. Some of them are quite ok, but only the first name I guess, if I have to use it in real-life society. I'm not sure about the surname... it will be a weird name if my family actually heard it.

Ah, now I start imagining, what it would be if I were to give my kids a japanese-first-name with our own surname. LOL.

You can always justify naming your child Japanese if you marry a Japanese. Also makes more sense if you plan on living in Japan.

If not you could always let your child have an English name as well as a Japanese name and use it appropriately depending on the environment.

That's kind of fun even though I probably won't have children.
And it is pretty convenient for me as I'm Chinese and we share characters.
Actually most of their name are quite odd in Chinese, but now I think of it there are some good one with a good meaning:

Hideyoshi 秀吉 (elegant, auspicious)
Kazuma 和真 (peace, genuine)
Shizuo 静雄 (quiet, manly)
Kusuo 楠雄 (wood, manly)

Also every name from Saiunkoku Monogatari can be used because the writer attempted to name the characters like Chinese in the first place.

I have a child now and named him after Jax from Mortal Kombat.
