This prologue episode was so freaking intense. I honestly didn't expect the episode to end so tragically. ufotable's animation is simply amazing though, the way they use CG animation is incredible. I haven't played the game myself but I know that Alisha didn't appear much in it. Glad to see the prologue focused solely on her though. This is already an amazing start to the Tales of Zestiria anime, hope it keeps up this quality. OP is pretty damn good too, based FLOW. Velvet from Tales of Berseria appears in the OP as well which I didn't expect. It looks more than a cameo, I'm excited to find out what her role is~ |

So a lot of things were going on here and nothing was explained. We have some mysterious black mist which starts wrecking things and blows away an entire town, we have some mysterious bishoujo trying to kill Princess Alisha, a henchman of sorts of that bishoujo helps Alisha when a mysterious loli attacks her while the black fog was destroying things, everyone around Alisha dies except for her, a fiery dragon comes out of the black fog. And then we have the legend of the Shepherd who will be the one to pull the sword out of the stone and guide all the sheep to wherever. Well, they'll probably explain all of this shit later on. But for now, this episode was pretty confusing since I had no idea what was going on. What I do know, however, is that ufotable sure did some amazing stuff here. The visuals are amwazing. The fight between Alisha's team and the attacking ninjas was pretty damn cool. Dem explosions though. The loli vs the long eared whatever guy was so cool. Whatever becomes of the story, at least this will be a feast for the eyes. |

DatRandomDude said: Literally no. This was all original and I would assume this happens before Sorey meets Alisha, which is why she went to the ruins afterwards. (If this were to be added like that in the story, but apparently this Tales of Z anime will be original from that of the game. So I think you're safe.do i need to watch the zestiria OVA of 2014 before this ? Samu-tan said: I watched the 44 min OVA about a year ago and I can't remember anything from it. Is it relevant to this show? Cause then I should rewatch it. It sorta confuses me that we supposedly have two proglogues; this entry and the 44 min OVA. Not to this OVA it ain't. Episode 1 next week will prob be somewhat similar to that of the OVA (Maybe). |

How to spend the whole anime budget on the first episode... The visuals are amazing, they are good enought to make me continue the anime despise the fact that I didn't understand a shit regarding what happens. I was about to give up in the first half, but the second got me hyped. |

I've been hearing this piece of info around and I've been wondering where this was said. Remaking the story completely would put into question which storyline is the canonical one. This is especially important as Berseria is a prequel set about 1000 years past. If there are conflicting story points between Zestiria's game and anime, players diving into Berseria would be kind of confused. I'm hoping that they decide to stick to the same story, but add exposition and explanations for many things. They kind of did that here in this prologue, which would explain why Alisha was stranded in the ruins when Sorey found her. |

Those two have a lot of backstory, much more story content than Alisha. |

God, I wish they would use the opening from the game. Probably not going to happen, since the anime is taking a different approach.. It's really good, though. Without the lyrics, the guitar riffs are sick. The production is awesome, as expected of ufotable. This is CG done right. I was hoping to see the MC in the end, but I guess it is called a prologue for a reason. |

I know that X will be different from the current Zestiria timeline, but I would at least recommend people to watch the OVA to get some more details of the Zestiria world. (also adding each other to their anime pages as "other" might help too.) That aside, I never understood the hate that Zestiria got. I enjoyed the hell out of it and the characters, grant Sorey could have used a bit more work as a character. It's a very nice change of pace that Vesperia and Xillia/Xillia 2 (and I love those three games) gave us. Maybe it's because I'm a simple (also not very smart) man. I also don't understand all this CGI hate people throw out at every sighting of it. The CGI in this was hardly terrible. If Berserk (2016) is the worst, then it'd be at the bottom of sea level. Most CGI I see that people complain about would be put around the base of to the middle of Mt. Everest. The tip of Everest would be for when we see the super godly CGI (the equivalent would be UFO's normal animation quality), which probably won't happen for a good amount of years. Anyways, onto the the actual episode. That was quite something. I wasn't actually aware that this was the prologue episode so I was quite confused on what was going on. But with all the animes I've seen, the death flags for those knights were waving around everywhere. I was hoping I was wrong cause it would've been nice to see Alisha do her own things with her knights (since this was supposed to be separate from the game). :( Where will the story really start for episode 1 then? How much of the game story will they keep/change? Where does Velvet come into all this? Will we see the other Berseria characters? WHAT IS GOING ON?! Is that dragon supposed to be Eizen? QnQ |

Fai said: Let's not even talk about CGI because hooboy, did Berserk leak out into this? The storm had some dodgy moments but the creature was fake as hell. Says the guy who thinks Prillya had "good quality cgi" including terrible cgi monsters of gilgamesh and other PS2-level cgi in the series. I guess i kind of expected this - a blind spot for SilverLink which supposedly does everything right and a hate boner for Ufotable that does everything wrong except for SOME things that are BEARABLE. Something along those lines? Guess one can look forward to those kind of posts on every Zestiria episode thread. Anyway, I've never been impressed with dragons in anime, their weakness was always in animations, like flying. Video games like Dragon age and SKyrim have spoiled me, that have great looking dragons, hell even World of warcraft has better animated dragons than most anime I've seen. The final 2 seconds you saw the dragon could've looked better, but that's not enough for me to judge. It will depend on how well its animated later on in the series. Rage of Bahamut also had a lame dragon, but i loved the series anyway. Other than that i think the whole thing looked amazing, great cgi, effects and particles and they seemed to be on point. I was quite impressed with the ambush action scene, it was on par with a lot of ufotable action scenes (knk/fate) in terms of quality and has a decent choreography with lots of unique and detailed moves. Since it wasn't a significant encounter I imagine there are great things to look forward to. |

The question is if ufotable has capable writers enough to improve it. Assuming the anime will bridge the gap between Zestiria and Berseria, any major changes they do to the lore will have to not conflict with events that happen in both games. The lore of Berseria as we know it right now is mostly the same lore, but with different names. If they change the way, say, how malevolence works, when players play Berseria, how do they know which lore to go by? The game or anime? Getting rid of Dezel's backstory would make Zaveid's origins even more mysterious. Since Zaveid is known to be affiliated with a character from Berseria, there would be exposition needed on other parts to make up for that. (Perhaps Aifread's Pirates are somehow connected to the Windriders?) On the contrary, putting more focus on Alisha would explain any potential connection between her and Oscar/Teresa from Berseria. Completely changing up the story when there is a prequel game coming out would make a mess really quickly. The most easy thing to do would be to stick with mostly the same story, but with more exposition on the parts that needed it in the game, maybe with some altered scenes or order of events here and there. |

I understand it was just a prologue, but the only good thing about it were the visuals. I learned basically nothing from this other than the fact that some chick has some amazing plot armor that allows her to survive some fire hurricane kind of shit while everyone else gets sucked in by it and fall through fissures on the ground. |

This was awful. In the first half the anime just jumps from location to locaction to check off the most important plot point in the most boring and bland way possible. I don't think a single scenes goes on for even 2 minutes before jumping straight to the next. The second half on the other hand was 1 long, tedious and confusing actions scene. Finally, the scene with the little girl was almost comical. They made it look like the evil storm came back just to kill that one girl, because fuck her I guess. |

Prologue, keep in mind. It's not to set up super structured stories and characters. It's just a teaser, showing the very beginning of the story and giving a taste of what will come later. These lengthy comments about the characters/directing being bad is like writing a review for something based on a trailer. It's dumb. Anyways, I liked it. The CGI integrates fine, and the animation/art is the best I've seen in a long time, probably since OPM. The choreography for Alisha's fight scene was great as well. Also, I loved the game, and it was nice to see some of the characters from the game in it. Only thing I thought was dumb was the girl scene, when she got sucked into the cyclone. That was just silly. |

Am I the only one who thinks Ufotable may have a better direction on the story compared to the game? This is coming from a gamer who played games from the Tales series since Phantasia. Zestiria's story was really poor. I'd want ufotable to change it entirely lol. |

Ufotable is such an impressive studio, their CG is beautiful. After have seen Berserk, the changes are huge! I really enjoyed the movie and this beginning looks promising. I think my only complaint is the last scene with the child, it was predictable and useless. |

Fully fleshed out characters and some hand-holding to explain the lore of the world before the first actual episode even airs? People are just looking to bash on Ufotable for no reason. |

Fai you are stupid, please leave. You say this much BS about the FIRST episode of an anime, yet you kept defending Itsuwari no Kamen pacing even tough the anime had 20 episodes of nothing and a lot of people were complaining about it. It was the same thing in Boku no Hero when after the episode 4 you said the pacing was bad...yeah like after 4 episodes...but 20 episodes of nothing doesn't mean the pacing is bad, right? You must be troll otherwise your double standards are just too much. |
