It seems like it will develop into a nice storyline. The art seems quite similar to Higashi no Eden. Looks like the studio likes making 'apocalyptic' anime?

Well, a major earthquake IS going to happen to Tokyo within the next 50 years. But we don't know when....

I think what ClearSinz meant was that usually the citizens will be notified in advance..

If I remember correctly, they do have a system that senses tremors or some sort like that...

yes, but apparently it can notify them only a few seconds in advance and sometimes it's still too slow. I'm not even sure if there has ever been a warning in advance in Japan so far oO But that system is also quite new.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquake_Early_Warning_(Japan)
Oh man that really sucks, only a few seconds?! I guess my expectations for the technology is too high atm :(

"An earthquake warning system is a system of accelerometers, communication, computers, and alarms that is devised for regional notification of a substantial earthquake while it is in progress"

That totally sucks..><

Thanks for the clarification :)!

Its a pretty good first episode.
A good introductory to the character Mirai, Yuuki and family.

Seems like shes not fond of people around her as well. I can understand her hatred a bit here and there.

Being bumped in the back full of ice cream ain't very nice.
Having people laugh at you when someone falls asleep on you would just annoy you (I'd give them my middle finger).

Its sorta nice to get some realism into anime shows, been lacking some of that for some time now. Hell, Mirai even reads Ouran Host Club! ^^ (If I spot right).

The end was expected, but more dramatic than I thought. Will catch the next episode.

This was a very good start to what seems like a great series.

Some have said that Mirai is kind of a brat and hates the peole around her, that is true up to a point. She seems to be no different than many teen girls that age, I mean she seems to have a good relationship with her friends (plenty of pictures on the wall, lots of texting, and the girls all seemed to get along at school).

The problems with the parents seem to be inline with what you would expect from the family dynamic of late and conflicting work hours.

I will be looking forward to the next episode.

I love how Mirai is so clearly in puberty! Some people here complaiun she's a bitch, buit hey, if you were 14 and got your brother dumped on you like that I have no doubt you would act the same way. I think the disaster will cause her to grow up a bit, so this is a great starting point.

Yuuki was just soo cute. Really adorable. Whish I hd a brother like that.

I hope the biker woman won't help them too much. I'd like to see Mirai take a bit more responsablity and take care of her brother on her own.

Pretty good episode, it sort of feels like an anime movie rather than a series but I'm not complaining. I really liked the realistic personalities of the characters as well as the setting, hopefully it will not become boring and just drag on and on.

That was really quite good. Was my most anticipated show this season and it didn't disappoint.

While it's already been said countless times, I've got to mention how relatable the cast is. Save for being down one child this felt exactly like the way my family would interact amongst each other, the parents in particular. Though I'd be more in Yuuki's role since looking back that's pretty much how I acted (and when regaling old stories with my family), and my older sister taking up Mirai's position, even down to the constant "this is my frustrated face"/indifference and continually plucking away on a cell phone. Off course it's not like that now (well maybe my parents still are), but this very reminiscent of that "tween" period we all go through, be it from a different perspective or in the role ourselves. I think it captures it perfectly, at least from my memories.

Regardless because of that I couldn't stop smiling for the entire episode. The characterization is spot on.

Good episode. Characters were build up. Yuuki is so cute. So innocent and jolly for a young cute brother. Mirai on the other hand is all typical emo middle schooler. ED kinda spoiled the show for me though, seeing the three of them in photographic shots.

Jesus christ. Everyone who has called Mirai a bitch clearly has forgotten their early teen/puberty years. :/ She's acting pretty normal for a kid her age.

Getting mad at your parents and thinking your little brother is a pest = TOTAL BITCH I HATE HER

This is true tho i don't really sympathize with her at the same time cuz i acted differently despite having it way worse than how she has it. But that said, her feelings are indeed common.

I loved this episode. The build up was slow but tense, I was just waiting for something to happen. I wonder how the series will develop and whether it will carry on the suspense and tension. This might just turn into my favourite series of this season. It definitely needs to get more viewers.

I'm sort of in Mirai's years at the moment so I can completely understood where her feelings are at. In fact, it made her more real, more easy to relate to and frankly, I think she's a great character. I can't wait to see how she handles the pressure.

Actually, first episode is really promising. Even tough I was never like the main character against anyone at those ages, I can feel her angry behaviours and do not think of them as "bitching". It was very professionally thoughtful of creators when she said "Why do I keep getting angry?" because at that second, I was questioning that in my mind too. Drawings were amazing, had almost no flaws at all. I hope story develops in an unexpected and touching way.

I've been waiting for this anime for last 2 months, hope it won't leave me in despair after it's done.

I can not wait to see how things will happen in the next episodes.

Sorry for my bad english. ^^

Wow, I can already tell I'm *in love* with this series.

The biggest thing that got to me was the realism of the characters. The interaction of the family felt so accurate, I like seeing things that aren't all picture-perfect. I really like how the main character is already jaded at such a young age. Scenarios like this aren't so rare in the real world, and I like that they gave it that measure of authenticity.

Anyways, I'm sure some people were bored with the majority of this episode, but I personally loved it. The last few minutes were very suspenseful, even though I knew what was coming. The music and animation were great throughout

I can't wait to continue with this. :)

This was a good episode. As it should be for the first I'll most certainly be going on through the series.

The main girl may be borderline between realistic teenage angst and overzealous writing. So I can see why she may be a bit bratty but she also seems a bit contradictory at times.

The OP/EDs are really nothing spectacular. In fact they're rather bad. The OP feels too much geared towards an action/adventure (BONES=FMA anyone?) hardly for a dramatic anime.

Otani intrigues me since hearing some of his work for the Shadow of the Collessues game but so far nothing amazing in the score yet.

Definitely glad I picked this show up. Even though I was a bit worried about the show only being 11 episodes, especially since they spent so much time just getting to the beginning of the earthquake in this episode, I was glad to see so much time spent on nice development. Mirai does seem a little bratty, but she seems exceedingly mature for her age and even a little jaded, but with a home life like that, it seems entirely understandable. Though it isn't particularly striking or detailed, I like the animation...it's simple and fluid. Here's hoping that the character development is solid throughout, I'm looking forward to seeing how strong (and possibly weak) Mirai really is.

This.

EDIT: Oh and, seeing as a few are saying "I was like that when I was her age" and obviously most of us can relate and consider ourselves more mature, imagine what an earthquake with all its consequences will do to Mirai!

LOL'd at the loghouse in Canada - when will they learn? We live in igloos! Duh! XD

Overall, a promising start. I thought it dragged a little and, yeah, Mirai's attitude bugged me more than once (like what's the deal with wanting round cakes over triangle? I don't care what shape my cake is in. I only care whether it tastes good or not! o_O) but I can tell this will probably end up being a show about her character development (like in Spirited Away, as someone else already mentioned) so I'm looking forward to that.

Animation was pretty good, though I'm a bit neutral about the character designs. The background work, though, is fabulous and a lot of detail and work went into the images of the destroyed buildings and whatnot, like in the OP. Sound is excellent too, so far - I really enjoyed the little "clicking" noises when Mirai was texting rather than generic beeping sounds XD Sounded exactly like my phone when I text.

Anyway, I'll be continuing this one for sure~
